This was a nice hotel in the heart of Leiden. Not too far from the train station (important when…read moreyou're wheeling luggage in the rain). The hotel is in an old building with lots of charm (and slightly scary, narrow stairs). There are rooms on all three floors (no lift). Mine was nice enough - two twin beds, a table with two chairs, a desk, a hot water maker, a mini fridge, a fan, and a wardrobe. The bathroom was quite small and no-frills. Various bath items were offered: shampoo, conditioner, cream, sewing kit, and shower cap. Instant coffee, tea, and hot cocoa were also in the room, along with a couple cookies each day. There is no free internet, at least not for the standard double rooms. I found the room comfortable overall, but the bed was far too soft/saggy for me. If I lay on my side, my leg would fall asleep eventually. Firmer mattresses would be nice. The breakfast was good - coffee, tea, juices, cereal, muesli, canned fruit, yoghurt, hardboiled eggs, a basket of bread (raisin, white, rolls, croissant), a tray of cheese and meat, and a basket of butter, jam, hagelslag, and other spreads. It was a filling breakfast - so much so that I skipped lunch or just got a quick pastry each day. The staff was very nice. They got me into a room early (as I'd just arrived from the US and was very tired), were always helpful at reception, and were friendly and chatty at breakfast. They even let me leave my bag with them for a few hours after I checked out. I'd recommend the hotel. Wifi would be nice, though.

The hotel is located on the river Maas so it was beautiful seeing the views coming down the elevator each morning. It is also in a really good location to walk to places and to access public transit or a water taxi.

Basically the service here is simply not fit for purpose. If you want breakfast - then find somewhere else (challenging). Our first trial was a disaster, the woman at the desk sat there doing nothing and said take any table. Every table was filthy and there were no plates etc etc. The bacon was burnt, there were no pancakes, there were no scrambled eggs etc. See some of the pics. They gave it to us for free and suggested we try today - it was a TINY bit better in that were 2 clean tables to choose from. But burnt bacon, undercooked scrambled eggs that would have made us sick, no boiled eggs and (just like the day before) all of the yoghurts etc open to the air and room temperature asking for bacteria to land a breed. Second tip - if you need something tell them at front desk and sit there and wait until you get what you need. For example we needed a second pillow each to be able to sleep. Asked first day but it never came, asked the following morning but by evening they had never come. Third time I insisted that I sit there until she gave them to me. The same trick was the best way to get my room cleaned etc today. Sadly we expected fresh wash cloths - but they don't have enough to give us any. Yikes!! What sort of place is this!? She then took a plunger to the shower and managed to plunge out a huge black hairball looking thing. She was very apologetic. My disappointment comes from management not addressing this with us at all. I just felt like, as a company, they should have tried to do something to rectify the situation. They confirmed the dog friendliness, and I booked the room online for nine nights. When we reached the hotel and checked in, I had to pay an additional 5 EUR/Night for each dog (called. Huisdier extra Kosten). Unfortunately, those extra costs were kind of a surprise but okay and understandable. The hotel is well located, and you can find a bus station to Delft/Den Haag, a McDonald's and a Texaco/Spar supermarket nearby. Especially the Texaco gas station with an integrated Spar supermarket is highly recommended for buying some water and such because it's ridiculously cheap; compared to Albert Heijn or other supermarkets. The entire hotel room was clean and organized, and the furniture and everything in a perfect condition and not too old. I felt very good spending time in my hotel room without getting depressed. Electricity sockets were rare why I always had to charge my phone on the desk and not form the bed. The staff was all the way friendly to my dogs and me, and sometimes they played during breakfast with the dogs. The breakfast buffet is good and doesn't provide any extraordinary things. It was simple, delicious and didn't change over the time I spent there. This hotel doesn't provide a room service for food and such, but you can always take the ordered food to your room. I did this three times and was only satisfied with my last order. The Dutch Steak with pepper sauce medium rare was delicious! The burger, as well as the pork Schnitzel I have ordered before, weren't that good. Both dishes were bland and used frozen patties/meat. That's how both looked and tasted to me. If you want something delicious, go with the Dutch Steak cause you can't-do anything wrong with it. As far as I can say that, it was a nice hotel and a good experience for me as a dog owner. This hotel is great if you like BUGS. The hotel is located a distance from the city center (about…read more5km) and is not easy to access on foot. While it is inexpensive, it is also cheaply furnished, threadbare, and dirty. Our first room was infested with roaches, fleas, ants, and other bugs that we couldn't identify. The walls are paper thin and you can hear every breath your neighbor takes. Despite the spartan and tired accommodations, we found the front desk staff to be argumentative, rude, and dismissive during our stay. When presented with evidence of roaches (I literally took a dead roach to the front desk), I was at first ridiculed, and then treated as if I were the crazy person for alleging that it was a roach. I was told in no uncertain terms that roaches "do not exist in the Netherlands." I suppose that would be fine, but certainly doesn't explain the fleas or ants we found either. It was very forcefully and aggressively explained that the hotel NEVER has had a problem with bugs. After reporting and presenting the dead roaches, the situation fell down an absurd European rabbit hole of cray cray. The roach was "sent for testing" and the "person who exterminates bugs for us." (Doubly curious, considering that the day before we were told that the hotel has never encountered a bug in its long and illustrious run.) The "report" from the "person" will--allegedly--be sent to us in a week... as if it makes a difference, because as I said the room was infested with all matter of bugs, not just roaches. The hotel manager very reluctantly offered a free breakfast in exchange for our trouble: No thanks, we'll pass on a buggy breakfast. Hotels are plentiful in this charming city. I would strongly suggest finding accommodation elsewhere.

And there's no dedicated elevator button to call for the only elevator to reach ground floor. The rotating door was broken and you had to manually push it. The night entrance door next to the rotating door doesn't lock, which is definitely weird. Rooms are decently quiet and you can mostly avoid the street noise from 4th floor and up. Air conditioning was strong and bathroom was spacious. Breakfast options were decent. Even though they have automatic machines available in the breakfast area for coffee and hot water, they closed it off after breakfast and you had to ask the reception staff for hot water.

It's in a fantastic location -- right next to a gorgeous park and literally steps away from the Escher Museum. It's also just a short walk to the Mauritshuis (hello, Girl with a Pearl Earring ) and surrounded by lots of things to do, see, and eat. The hotel itself is beautiful -- elegant lobby, rich-looking dining hall, and we stayed in a junior suite that was spacious, comfortable, and full of thoughtful touches like tons of drawers and cabinet space. Service across the board was excellent -- from the concierge to the doorman to housekeeping, everyone was friendly and professional. Now, about the restaurant... that's where things got a little bumpy. There was one incident early on that I reported to the front desk, and to their credit, they were super apologetic -- even saying, "this isn't the first time this happened and we'll talk to the manager." (Okay... not sure if that was meant to make me feel better, but I appreciated the honesty?) Anyway, after that, they went above and beyond -- our breakfast table was magically reserved for us every morning, and the person who had slipped up before turned into the nicest person ever. I booked four nights through my Amex Platinum and got all the perks that come with it -- totally worth it. The stay overall was wonderful, but again, the restaurant really needs some tightening up. One dinner night, we waited over an hour for our food which's slow even by European standards, and they forgot our fries. When they realized it, they offered to bring us two orders to make up for it -- sweet gesture, but we declined because... well, we love fries, just not that much . They brought out mayo, ketchup, and truffle mayo (yum!) -- but then it got a bit awkward because I overheard an American gentleman behind me earlier asking for ketchup, and the waitress told him they didn't have any. My husband whispered, "He's looking at your ketchup." I wanted to offer him some, but by the time my fries arrived, his were long gone. Oops. Food-wise, everything else was really good -- especially the sea bass, perfectly cooked with crispy skin just the way it should be. All in all, despite a few restaurant quirks, I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in The Hague. The service, comfort, and location more than make up for it -- just maybe skip dinner downstairs and explore the city's food scene instead!

Tv had many international channels. Bathroom was convenient, but my shower changed from warm to cold and back to warm water continuously. I signalled this to reception to have it fixed, but unfortunately nothing was done. Breakfast buffet was excellent! I'm a big fan of fresh fruit and was happy to find fresh pineapple, watermelon, melon, mixed fruit salad... Besides a choice of bread rolls, eggs, bacon, sausages, fresh vegetables, Dutch bread sprinkles, etc the hotel also served "poffertjes" - a type of small pancakes you eat with butter and sugar. Wonderful! I had a pedicure at the Spa downstairs and was happy with the service. In general the staff was friendly and helpful.

But don´t expect too much luxury in the so called luxury room. It´s not more than a good average and for the room itself a bit to pricey.
