I had a four item pizza - it came with each item in its own quadrant. The crust was hand tossed, had an irregular shape, and was delicious. My wife had Prescutto and melon. The ham was thinly sliced and very tasty, and the melon was very fresh and sweet. Of course we shared. Bottled water (Pelligrino) for me and a Coke for her rounded out the meal.

The rooms were clean and sufficient. Some rooms have balconies, but ours did not. There was a mini fridge with complimentary water, safe, coffee maker, TV. The dinners were not that exciting that were predetermined for our group. Would have rather dined out all 4 nights instead of 1, but that was part of the group package. The soups and desserts were pretty tasty, but the main courses did not wow. The final night was a beef roast and it was overcooked to the point that it got very dry even when covered with gravy. The rosti raclette dish was soggy and raclette cheese wasn't special. Shrimp cocktail salad tasted fine but weird with baby shrimp. The best thing about the food was the breakfast spread - lots to choose from. We enjoyed a spritz at the bar one evening. The staff was all friendly and welcoming. There is an elevator in the lobby.

We've been traveling around Switzerland and wanted to make a stopover at one of the lakes in Italy. We decided to sleep in Verbania and I found this lovely Hotel. It's a great old building, well maintained and spotless clean. The couple running it were super friendly and helped us with everything in advance as well as during the stay. We felt at home right away. We got a larger corner room with a nice view. The furniture is older, by well managed. The location is close to the center, but very quiet. You can park directly in front of the place free of charge. As we ate in town I cannot comment on the kitchen. I'll book this hotel again next time I'm around.

Both in May and later in June I was with Trafalgar Tours (two separate tours). So altogether I stayed 4 nights at the Hotel Splendid in Baveno, Italy in 2013. I'm glad that I did, it's one of my favorite hotels in Europe. Plus, I took photos.

The pictures are not an accurate representation of the rooms or the property. We got a suite. It's very dated. Not enough pillows for the bed.
