The cost was very affordable and absolutely worth it. I highly recommend a private tour after seeing some of the larger tour groups in Pompeii, it's hard to hear your guide, less personal and difficult to ask a question. We booked a 2.5 hour tour and by the end we wished we booked the 5 hour tour. Our guide Linda was absolutely incredible; she is so knowledgeable, even the other tour guides in the area would ask her questions along the way. Linda was friendly, fun to be around, engaging, nothing she said seamed scripted but more like she was telling a story. Linda truly made Pompeii come to life for us. The wine selection was enjoyable, and I have no complaints regarding the tasting itself. However, the dining portion of the experience fell short of expectations. The food service seemed somewhat disorganized, and the featured pasta dish was particularly disappointing. Given the farm-to-table description, I was expecting a meal that showcased fresh, locally sourced ingredients with more depth of flavor and creativity. Unfortunately, the pasta sauce was quite plain and lacked the richness and seasoning one would anticipate from a signature farm-to-table offering. Even a small addition of meat, vegetables, or more robust seasoning would have significantly improved the dish. While the wine experience was worthwhile, the lunch did not match the quality or expectations set by the tour description. This place has it all - winery, resort, horse stables, and restaurant. There rooms have a queen bed with a pullout couch and an amazing patio with privacy. The room is very cozy and has a stocked refrigerator of drinks and snacks. The bathroom is very nice and has a walk-in shower and dual shower heads. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They will assist with making any reservations within the resort or setting up excursions. Breakfast is included in your stay. They offer pastries, juice and some hot items. For gluten free they have bread, muffins and cookies. There is also an epic pool with lots of chairs and a pool bar. The towels are wrapped in plastic and the servers will bring you anything you ordered. We had an limoncello spritz and GF snacks. The staff will also give you a tour of the property. It's kept up immaculately and the views are incredible. We also had dinner at the restaurant. They offer GF pasta and other dishes. The pasta was delicious! The resort scheduled a private Pompeii ruins tour for us. They suggest morning or afternoon due to the hot weather. The tour was incredible and the guide was very knowledgeable. There is also a stable where you can take lessons. We didn't opt to do it this time but my dad and I tried last year. You can also schedule a wine tasting. All their wines are made with volcanic grapes and are natural. We were able to try 4 wines with a shot of limoncello. Lunch is also included and can be made GF. Overall had an amazing experience and will definitely continue to come back.

However, after we arrived at the meeting location in the piazza, we discovered that the tour we purchased was not the same as where the bus was going. It was similar, but not the same. Since we were dressed for Sorrento and other areas along the Amalfi Coast, we were not expecting to do a lot of walking. Nevertheless, we had a great time. On the day of the two-hour tour, it was extremely hot outside, but we were well prepared with water, hats and sunglasses. The tour was interesting and surreal, as we learned more about the ancient Roman city. Prior to the tour, we were provided with earbuds and a speaker, which added to the experience in such a large crowd. It was a well organized tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and he had a great sense of humor. Prior to exiting the bus for the Pompei tour, those who wanted to pick up dinner immediately following the tour submitted orders to our main tour leader. The carryout meals were ready at the specified time. Overall, the process was a well-oiled machine.

So, when we booked a summer trip to Italy, there was no question that Pompeii was a must see. Booking a hotel was easy because there's really one property with great reviews and that's Hotel Diana. For 75 Euros a night, the price was just right. Due to some absurd travel delays, we ended up rolling in on the last train of the night from Naples. . . and it, apparently, went to the wrong train station in town. We called the hotel at 11 PM and explained our problem: the train station was now closed, there were no taxis, and we were the only ones there. The front desk clerk called us a taxi, who showed up shortly and gave us a ride. I didn't realize how wrong the wrong train station was until we drove over 20 minutes just to get to the property. For the record, the "right" train station is literally half a block from the hotel. Oops! Make sure you're choochooing into the right place, friends. When we got there, we were checked in promptly and given keys to our room. The room is sort of garishly decorated, but whatever. It was clean, it was a good size, and it had an ice cold ac. The bathroom was a good size and very clean. Despite our late arrival, the front desk agent pointed us to a pizza place down the street that was still open. Can I tell you? Literally the best pizza I have ever had. Phenomenal! And like, half a block from the hotel. Pizzeria Alleria, check them out. So good we went back twice. We slept well, grabbed the free breakfast in the morning (which was fine), and headed to Pompeii. Now, for some reason, I thought the Hotel Diana was right next to Pompeii, but it is not. You've got to walk about 10 minutes, which isn't much. Well, it's supposed to be 10 minutes, but we made a wrong turn and it took us quite a bit longer than it should have. Oops. There also seemed to be a rather happening hot spot right down the street from the hotel, so if that's your thing, that's a plus. Check out was easy and they helped us figure out the train schedule, which was much appreciated. All in all, I would definitely suggest Hotel Diana. It's got a great location, friendly staff, and great pricing.
