Great location, (mostly) nice staff, new and modern feel to the rooms.
The bed was comfortable, the shower was nice, and the amenities in the bathroom (soap, hair dryer) were fine. Little espresso machine in the room was nice.
But, to be honest, I couldn't find much of a difference between this hotel and the €20/night hostel I stayed in a few nights prior, except for, perhaps, the intricate wallpaper (and that's saying something... I don't "do" hostels).
We were told at check in that if we'd like breakfast it would be €13 (as it wasn't included in the reservation for us) and we could pay beforehand. The last morning, before I had to leave for the airport, I thought I'd give it a try for the sake of convenience. The front desk informed me that what I was previously told was incorrect and I'd have to pay €15 (no big deal), but unfortunately, breakfast wasn't worth half of that. Some dry pastries, fruit, yogurt, bland coffee, lifeless scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. I paid less and ate far better for breakfast in many other places throughout Berlin.
Sure, it was nice... but far better if it isn't being paid for by your bank account, mainly because the value for the money isn't clear. If you have a smaller budget for your trip to Berlin, don't overlook staying somewhere like the Jugendgästehaus (youth hostel... if you're young enough). If money doesn't matter to you, then look somewhere more plush and luxurious than the Holiday Inn. read more
