The Hotel Icon is my favorite hotel in Houston. Conveniently located downtown, next to multiple eateries and club venues. The staff is kind and highly accommodating. They always give me an upgrade on my room reservation, and their rooms are nicely appointed. Eventually, some of the rooms will need updating, but they are very good about addressing any issues there might be with a broken faucet, missing luggage rack etc... A particularly love their valet service, to always take impeccable care of my car. Parking is on site, so you don't have to worry about waiting for your car very long, or then parking vehicle in an lot. They even have a shuttle service that will bring you anywhere within a mile distance. We've used it many times to get a bite to eat or to get dropped off as well as picked up from concert venues in the area. They have a terrific selection of cocktails and a wonderful happy hour every day with discounted beverages. They also serve breakfast each morning, that includes waffles and omelette my request. This place is definitely my consistent go-to, where I can always guarantee a great experience. read more

It was our first time staying at this beautifully restored hotel that used to be a historic bank, and what a gorgeous place. The décor was already set up for the holidays and looked absolutely stunning ! We decided to have dinner at the bar, even though the restaurant had plenty of space. The service was friendly, sharing the stories of ghosts haunting the place. The best part was the food - super impressive. We shared a margarita pizza to start, then had the Thai salad with shrimp and the Greek salad with steak. Everything was full of flavor, but the real standout was the dressing: garlicky, bright, and unforgettable. Hands-down this was an exceptional experience. Valet is overpriced, but to their credit, the service was quick and the staff very friendly. The hotel itself is gorgeous with a great atmosphere, full of historic charm. Our room had an old A/C unit that initially made things feel damp, but once it cooled down, it was much more comfortable. The room was spacious with a large, beautiful bathroom featuring elegant tile, a deep soaking tub, and a big stand-up shower. Beds were super comfy, and even the elevators, though older, added to the vintage vibe in a good way. read more

We really liked our hotel room. Retro decor, fun touches, whirlpool tub. Classy. Food at breakfast had plenty of selections, and with fresh made omelets. All staff especially, Alexis were professional, fun, and friendly. This was great as the first time we booked this hotel we popped in a couple of days before to check it out and this was not the case. Rude staff resulted in us cancelling. We decided to try again when they had a price drop and we were glad we did. Would love to see some updates like being able to use a mobile key, information in the room directory, (it was largely empty), and credit card tap. We will be back for sure. read more

I stayed here the last week of July for 4 nights in room 515. Pros: Omg I LOVED that my room had a little entrance way filled with gorgeous paneling. Our room overlooked the "Education for All" mural. It felt so pretty and luxurious despite the decent price. Overall very quiet, the room was clean and the lobby smelled like Christmas. Cons: no pool. Shampoo bottles attached to the shower wall means you can't wash your hair in the giant soaker tub because they don't have bottles for the tub. I couldn't figure out how to use the hand attachment for the soaker tub either. Be warned there's nothing to do in the area, so hope you like chilling in your room. Shuttle: There is a free shuttle. We had a couple issues with it - one morning when it was raining, they dropped my husband off at the wrong conference center hotel for a work conference, so he was soaked and late. When I tried to take it initially, they told me they weren't running it because they needed the employee to run the valet. Also we walked to a coffee shop 3 miles away. When we called for a pickup, we were told they only pick up within 3 miles (like the front desk told us.) I noticed that not every room has a little entrance area with refrigerator and bar (I looked when I walked by the staff turning over rooms.) I don't think I'd like the room as much without it, but in general, I love the Autograph collection hotels and this one is no different! Visited July 2024 read more

The rooms were clean. The service was outstanding. There is a vegan meatloaf dish that I would recommend to all vegans to go try. The portion is enough for two people, and it was absolutely delicious. The bartenders went out of their way to make a special cocktails. Yes, I recommend this place. read more

We stayed here for a concert that was happening in town just about 7 minutes walk away, and I can say I enjoyed my time! As a lover of historical architecture and vintage themes, I was very much in love with the attention to detail here! I've stayed at the hotel ICON in ATX, and while that one is very nice for a more hip and lively atmosphere, this place is very elegant and quaint. From the kind service, to the history behind such a place, was very wonderful! I wish we could've gotten more of a tour but the whole building to the rooms is enough to give yourself one if you know where to look! read more

I'm conflicted on my experience here. When I first tried to check in the receptionist told me it was too early. How else is the hotel suppose to know to assign me a room when one becomes available (in case someone leaves early) before my check in time? Instead, I asked for my bags to be held while I looked for breakfast and explored downtown Houston. The hotel was sold out the night before and a different receptionist let me check in upon returning. My suite wasn't ready until around noon, which was expected. All of the suites were on the penthouse floor. I loved this, it felt a bit exclusive. I loved the grandness of the suite. The high ceilings and all of the storage space (hall closet, two bedroom closets) were amazing. The suite was large and cozy, but showed its age. One of the cabinets in the kitchen nook wasn't aligned so it opened and closed at a slant. There are dents in the wall from previous guests removing the door guard too aggressively. I had to use a little more force than normal to open and close some doors, specifically the three closet doors and the cabinets in the kitchen nook. The graphics on the TV looked very old. Like they were last updated in the early 2000s. The bed was so comfortable though, and the bathroom was great, specifically having all of that counter space. There is a bar a block over that blasted music on Sunday night until 2am Monday morning. The Wi-Fi didn't work on the morning I checked out. None of my streaming services would load or play videos. The blue sofa in the living room was disgustingly filthy. When I tried to sit on it, I used my hand to help ease myself down, and I could feel the grit underneath my hand. When I looked at my hand, there was a lot of black dust, lint, and what looked like dirt or some kind of grit, similar to the texture of sand. Just thinking about how long that sofa was neglected is gross. It's a nice hotel in a great location, but the nightly rate is overpriced. I would suggest staying here if you can appreciate the architecture, but don't expect all of the perks and benefits that usually come with a 4-star hotel or current/upgraded technology. read more

This hotel has lots of character! Very rustic but at the same time elegant. Spent my birthday weekend here and had a great time. Lots of restaurants and bars walking distance from this hotel. If you aren't adventurous enough to walk (it can get pretty scary at night) they have a shuttle that can take or pick you up from places up to a 3 mile radius. Service was great! Okay but not great. The food and drinks drag down my review of this hotel and the bar itself is not as impressive as the photos lead you to believe. I was really hopeful the hotel would be something special. That said, the bottom floor was an old bank and it has tall pillars in the lobby which is an interesting feature but the drink menu at the bar is pretty basic and it looks like it might have been printed a decade ago. There are a lot of restaurants a 5-minute walk away, so the hotel food is not a deal killer. The rooms are clean but small and the lower levels can be a bit noisy if you are a light sleeper due to bars. I was on floor 5. It's a convenient walk to Minute Maid Park for concerts and events. read more

I was visiting for a conference and thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel! They were fully booked, but made it a point to honor all my requests including that for a room on a high floor with a good view and an extra sofa bed. They also allowed me to check in super early and check out an hour late. The folks at the reception are wonderful and helpful. The hotel itself is gorgeous with its old world charm. Well I cannot in good faith give a 5 star review because the Valet parking was a mess. No signage and nobody outside so I figured it was self-park. Then a valet comes out screaming to reverse down the ramp. He said just park it and then walked away, yet I am going to be charged like $45 for him to tell me to park my car. I got in very late and I had to leave very early. I was in 314. The room's AC was BLASTING when I got there and it wasn't warm in Houston. It was loud too. The unit was annoying but I was at 12% capacity so it did not bother me. I had a battle with the bath shutters to later realize one of the panes was in the way so it would not open, oops It had a nice bathroom. I love a good jetted tub so I took a bath. While in the bath, I got a call from a friend who then got me thinking about when the jets were cleaned and fungi and that ruined my bath. Nothing on the hotel, more my friend ruining my bliss. I did sleep well but had to get up at 4am for a 6am flight after a 14 hour day so that might have helped my slumber. In the morning, I got my $45's worth when the valet walked 20 feet to get my car and bring it to me. It was a neat hotel and fun to explore, lots of history and rooms. The hotel room was unique too. I would come back but not park there. I heard the bar was very expensive so I did not bother. read more

I have loved staying at the Icon in the past but unfortunately this is my last stay. My room, a deluxe whirlpool room on the 7th floor, faces a bar. It is Saturday night at 1:45 AM and I am literally crying and praying that 2:00 AM brings some peace. The volume levels from the bar/club across the street are Literal noise torture. I tried sleeping in the bathroom for an hour where the sound is more muted, and can't imagine the noise levels in floors closer to the ground. This is a nightmare. I suggest you ask for a quiet room (maybe an odd numbered room) or specify a quiet room for your stays. There is NO way the hotel is not aware of this travesty and I feel absolutely cheated.:( It's 1:57. The noise hasn't stopped. It's 2:22 AM and it has intensified. How is this legal? read more

If you are a history fanatic then this place is right up your alley! I overheard one of the managers talking and supposedly it's owned by Magic Johnson and Cindy Crawford. Random, I know. But it's an old bank that's converted into a hotel. Because of this, it can seem a bit dusty and old. They kept a lot of the old characteristics like the railings, elevator, walls and the vault right behind the front desk. The cleaning staff is also very attentive. I filled out a survey when I logged on the WiFi and wrote that the sheets were dirty. Within minutes someone knocked on my door to change the sheets. The furniture may need updating as well as the curtains but it's and old nostalgic place so it kind of goes with the vibe. The restrooms are the coolest most up to date area of the room. There's a lot of cool detail in the bathrooms. Plus, it comes with a deep tub to soak in. The breakfast is the basic Marriott breakfast with the eggs, potatoes, breads and fruit. Nothing to rave about but it's there and convenient. I would suggest to go elsewhere for breakfast as you can spend $25 at a nearby restaurant for more interesting food. Houston has great food especially in this neighborhood. The surrounding area is great to walk, especially Main St. There are lots of places to eat and lots to see. read more

I was intrigued by the photos online when I researched the hotel. I thought it was a very cool place. The parking garage is adjoined with the hotel. There is only valet parking and it will cost you $52 a day. I spent one night so that was ok for me. There is parking down the street if you want to walk. I must say the valet service was exceptional. They have their own shuttle service that runs throughout the day and evening which was at no cost. The employees are outstanding. This hotel is very close to attractions and minute maid park. Upon arriving, the smell of an old building permeated through me. It used to be an old bank and the original vault is behind the reception desk. It was appealing to the eye, but creepy for me. I checked in around 5pm and the hotel looked empty. There is a pretty good restaurant Line & Lariat in the main lobby area which I had dinner, and they serve late. The bar looked really cool too. After my stay I looked up the history, and it has a history of hauntings, and that was what my gut told me. Personally, I smelled men's cologne a few times in the dining area where I was eating alone and no one was around me!. It's a cool place but one night was enough for me. read more

We stayed at the Hotel Icon on 4-9 leaving 4-10. First of the Hotel smelled extremely musty, including the lobby and especially the room. This was less than satisfactory especially in view of the amount we paid for the night's stay. The thing that has me extremely irritated is the fact that Valet Parking was $50.00. For the privilege of parking there, a small Brass Hook'Em Horns on my car's key fob was stolen off of the key fob. I have had this on my key fob for over 30 years and it is more sentimental value than it monetarily valuable. I called the Hotel recently to speak to the Hotel Manager but of course was told he was not available, so I left him a message with my phone number. Of course, have not heard from him. My advice to others looking at staying here: don't leave anything you value with valet unless you want it to disappear. I will personally make sure anyone I know wanting to stay in downtown Houston to avoid like this hotel like the plague. read more

I was very impressed with the whole experience here. Atmosphere is great. Old restored bank made into a hotel. Old bank vault behind the check in desk, the lit up bar at the hotel bar. Rooms are comfortable and have all the essentials, and the AC was very powerful. Great views from our room. Oscar at the bar made some delicious drinks and all the cocktails were from fresh juice. Love the bathtub in the suite, spacious room, comfy bed, sofa bed in the living room, beautiful room setting, reminds me of an Italian style, may not be a style of someone prefer a modern look, but I enjoyed my stay. The staffs took measures to make sure guests felt safe here and super clean in our room. The Marriott Bonvoy standard, no less. Thank you for the upgrade! A nice gym too... On the down side this was a busier hotel, especially the lobby, I guess quite a few evacuees staying here too... So the lobby got crowded to navigate... it once in our suite, it's safe and quiet. read more

Sure, the interior and architecture is beautiful and it's a historic hotel. However I've stayed here multiple times and visited the bar on numerous occasions - Hotel Icon is nothing to write home about. It's overpriced, the walls are thin, and the bar service is super slow. I once brought in multiple members from my Meetup group to hang out at the bar and we were treated awfully. They also make a huge deal if you *dare* take photos on anything but a camera phone anywhere on the premise. Like okay, I'm not taking professional bridal portraits... I'm simply taking a photo of me with an overpriced martini I paid for from your bar to post on Instagram? Horrible service. I would recommend staying at a different historic hotel. read more

Swankkkkky hotel nestled in Houston, TX... OMG, this hotel is a hidden gem! The penthouse suites are awesome. Each has it's own theme (e.g. Oriental, Savory, etc.). I love it! Parking is reasonable in that it is less than most downtown hotels. The penthouse suite is totally awesome. It has all the amenities you would need in this like a mini apartment. The restroom is beautiful and there's a clawfoot tub in the master bedroom out side of the restroom. The bed is a nice size as well. The living area is nice and that it has a couch into arm sofas facing the television. The television is enclosed in built-ins and has extra storage space for luggage and has drawers as well. The dining area has a large dining table which can seat about 6 people. The kitchen area is more like a kitchenette with the small refrigerator and a microwave and a sink. Very much appropriate for Penthouse living. The staff was nice and accommodating. All of the penthouse Suites that I saw able to enter including the one that I stayed in was extremely nice and all of them had different themes. Ice is served beer room service only on the penthouse suite. Altogether, I will be back as Hotel ICON is amazing! This hotel is a nice surprise. a very disappointing experience (room 1116, jan7-9 2023). During check-in the tellers were very unfriendly (& strangely disapproving). This made my partner very uncomfortable & unwelcome. The rooms & halls are very underwhelming for the price in contrast to recent stays at 4 star hotels within the surrounding area (specifically Lancaster, Hilton, JW Marriot). The bed was comfortable & the location is prime-- lots of great dining options! The room service was great for drinking but not that exciting food wise. The TV was your typical budget, dated, 32" & it did not work reliably (dish service lost multiple times) & the (free) internet was slow. The mini-fridge is never cleaned, evidenced by ice build up in the freezer box, preventing it from closing. I've emailed this same review to the hotel & received no acknowledgment or follow up. A LARGE degree of improvement opportunities in the areas of customer service, housekeeping, & expectations/experience management. read more

I love this hotel. We use it for a stay staycation (when grandma can watch the grandson). The rooms are clean, bedding is soft, wine options are good,and location is great. The only negative is that the gym has a weird sewer type smell but that's pretty minor. read more

Good morning, My husband and I chose this hotel to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. When I booked our reservation on Expedia breakfast was included. This morning as I was fixing my plate Driss asked me for my green ticket. So I put the plate down and I went to the front desk to get the breakfast ticket. Now the front desk person is new so she didn't know how to retrieve it. The front desk manager Umer Bliss said that breakfast was not included in our reservation. So I pulled up Expedia and lo and behold there it was. Two big failures I would not recommend this hotel. I will be doing a Google review. I give your customer service Zero Stars. Spent 3 nights here. One night I had problem connecting to WiFi, but gotta say, Oscar, the bartender all three nights was great! While I primarily drank Angel Envy or Basil Hayden's, one night is asked for something different. Oscar recommended a "Liverpool Rocks" (photo below). He made it with bourbon - IT WAS REALLY NICE! This hotel is beautiful. A true 5 star however I give it a 4 . We made the mistake and stayed on a Saturday night so Main street was on party mode till 3 am. We had the privilege of being entertained by local karaoke singers till 3. The room was amazing and different. Clean and spacious. I personally thought the bed was way to hard and flat as my husband loved it. The whirlpool tub is awesome however you have to be very careful getting in and out. The tub is over 3 feet tall so you have to swing your leg up and over. Same on existing the tub, so use a bathmat! Other than the noises we had a good experience. read more

I haven't stayed at Hotel Icon, Autograph Collection but I did attend a corporate retreat here. Hotel Icon is located in the heart of downtown, within walking distance of many great restaurants and bars. Since space is at a premium downtown, parking is valet only. And it's not cheap. Luckily, mine was comped. As you walk in, it becomes clear quickly that Hotel Icon has a lot of character. It has an old-school vibe and sophisticated vibe. They have a bar in the lobby with open seating. I spent most of my time on the second floor in one of the conference rooms. The bathrooms are clean and fancy. We had a buffet lunch and the service was great. Based on my experience here on business, I'd definitely check it out down the road if I'm looking for a staycation. read more
