I visited the Amalfi coast with a friend during the summer of 2011. At the time, we were too young broke just-outta college girls with little knowledge of the Amalfi coast. We knew it was beautiful, and that was enough to warrant a visit. I was lucky enough to use Timeshare points in exchange for a hotel and found Hotel La Ninfa through that site. We had such high hopes while looking online but on the bus ride down, my friend and I convinced ourselves it wouldn't look that great in person. It seemed too good to be true. We missed our stop on the bus and we were dropped off at the 5 star hotel on the block. We must have looked out of place because the bellman gladly gave us a ride up the road. If you've been to the coast, it's not necessarily a road you would want to take a stroll on. Finally, we were at the front door of Hotel La Ninfa. We were buzzed in by friendly Maurizio who had been expecting us. We walked down a few stairs to the very view we thought didn't exist. Our jaws immediately hit the floor. The large archways allowed a beautiful, unobstructed view of the water. My friend quickly pointed to her face, "tears, I have tears." It was the most beautiful thing I've seen in person. Prior to our visit, I requested a sea-view room and Maurizio set us up with "the most romantic room." Well, good thing we were romantic friends (not at all) and snuggled up in our corner room. The room itself is tiny, not much space. Good thing at the time I didn't give a crap about King size beds, moving room and bending over in the shower. I'm not sure if all the rooms are like this, but we didn't care. We had the same beautiful view and it didn't matter. Look at my pics, I literally woke up to a sea view. I didn't have to get out of bed. Maurizio and Carmen made our experience amazing, and offered great advice on places to go and things to do. The breakfast had Nutella, I don't need to say anything else. Go to the Amalfi Coast. Stay somewhere where you'll get a view, deal with the rest. You won't regret it! read more
The hotel was walking distance to Amalfi Coast but that's only if you are willing to walk up and down steep hills and cars and buses being inches away from you. It's 1km away which according to the taxis costs €20. Other than that the bus is the most convenient way to get to the hotel it drops you off right in front of the hotel but you have to make sure you are close to the front of the bus to tell them to need to get Off bc they drive very fast past your stop. The bus only runs every 20mins as well. You can purchase a ticket at the tourist office for €1.30 each person and you stamp it on the bus. When we got to the hotel the view was amazing and there was a beach below the hotel but it wasn't open during the time that we went (mid May). We got there early so our room wasn't ready so we left our stuff and came back a few hours later. When we came back the worker asked for our passports and 2€ ( I assumed for city tax ) he came back to our room and gave us our passports back and not the change back since I gave him a €10. My boyfriend asked where the change was and acted very confused and I think he thought it was a tip.. but now I think it was a 2€ charge for holding our bags since the next morning we paid €3 city tax. So that was annoying. The shower/bathroom had mold in it and the headboard was old and dirty. The air conditioner made weird noises all night and sounded like water was dripping on the floor but it wasn't. The hotel set up is weird.. our room was right near the breakfast area.. about 2 steps away when we opened our door was where they served breakfast.. so at 7am we had a wake up of the staff setting up for breakfast. I felt like we had no privacy bc we were able to hear the workers who were 10 feet away out in the hallway where we check in at. Over all, I can't say I would recommend due to cleanliness and lack of communication about the 2€ and how difficult it was I get to it at first. read more

This was the most horrid and frustrating customer service I have ever experienced in my life. We booked Hotel La Ninfa for my birthday trip to the Amalfi Coast. ONLY A WHOLE MONTH after the booking, the hotel owner called me saying that he's unable to fulfill my special request for the room (I requested a particular room of the Double Room, Sea View class of rooms) because that room has already been booked. I understand, of course, that special requests are not guaranteed and at the hotel's discretion, but then the hotel owner said, and I quote, that "he would be happy to CANCEL MY BOOKING because he prides himself on CUSTOMER SATISFACTION." I asked him to repeat himself - if he's willing to cancel. He said yes. I then took him up on his promise. I booked another hotel (of course, after a month the prices have risen, but regardless that's what I did), and called back asking him to cancel. He said I have to call the booking website (Expedia). But when I called Expedia and they tried to confirm with him, he denied any of the above happening, and that he is UNWILLING to refund me. I then requested a three-way telephone conversation. After much heated discussion, he FINALLY admitted he said the word "cancel," but meant not what one would usually understand the word to mean IN ITS ORDINARY MEANING IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, but "cancel" as in modifying the date. Which is frankly a ridiculous excuse, and the Expedia Customer Service agent agreed with me on this. Even if he meant the latter, I think all reasonable people would agree that this misunderstanding is largely due to his own fault in misusing the word, and even if it is due to the fault of both parties (which would be quite a thing to say because he did say the word "cancel"), if he truly values customer satisfaction as he said he did, he would refund me because he can easily have the room rebooked, the hotel being as popular as it is. Alas, he refuses to do so. EVEN MORE UNREASONABLY, when I tried to concede to modifying the date to sometime in the future, he said I could only modify the date to one day earlier, which is RIDICULOUS because I have told him on MULTIPLE occasions that my flight is on the 30th. Why would modifying the date to the 29th help me in any regard? He clearly was being exceedingly unhelpful. What's more, he was also EXCEEDINGLY RUDE. When I asked to speak to a manager, not knowing he was the owner of the hotel, he snappishly said, "I am a little better than that, I am the hotel owner." And when I explained that I am a student and could hardly afford to double book, he said, "So you are. How nice. Nice to meet you." In the end, I got refunded for half of what I paid. One may say 100-something pounds is not much of a loss considering I could get no refund at all, but it was unacceptable because I should not have to pay even a single pound. read more

I made a mistake with my reservation, and called right away the hotel to modify it. They didn't want to do any commercial offer, even though I just wanted to change dates and of course pay the high season price. They kept answering that no refund was possible, but i didn't ask for it. That is a very poor customer service for a 3 star hotel. read more
