No wandering the mazes of Venice to find your hotel, just head north! Buy a $4 compass beforehand! 3) No crowds! In this neighborhood you'll see where real Venetians live their lives. Sort of. 4) Scenic walk to the highly overrated, overpriced, and tourist packed Saint Mark's Square. 5) Clean, quiet, comfy room, in which the shower takes about 3-5 minutes for hot water. We had a really nice view! 6) Crappy breakfast food, mostly prepacked foods, but good coffee. 7) Wifi...they alledgely had it, but it never worked. The rooms aren't super large but are comfortable enough and there's plenty of space to store your things. There also is a certain charm to the place. The free breakfast was really incredible - a lot of options, not just several. The only drawback was that you have to leave your key at the desk when you go out. The staff were really quick about taking it or giving it back though. Also when I went running early in the morning I had to get a staff member to let me out the door but again they were always prompt. The hotel itself was reasonably priced and in an area of Venice that didn't have super small streets that were mobbed with tourists. There were a good number of restaurants and bakeries quite close to the hotel so the location was really great.

So, do you really need to see Venice out of the window you close and block with the drapes as you dive into bed, full of pasta, and having walked the entire circumference of the island while stopping to alternate sipping Chianti and Peronis? Do yourself a favor & skip the $500 a night hotel and stay a quick walk from the train station at Hotel San Geremia - yes there are no taxis so you'll be pushing your roller board over the cobbles. It was $170 a night at the San Geremia. I promise you won't wish you spent 3x as much at 1am when the only thing more you want to see in Venice is the back of your eyelids. The hotel is clean, it's easy to get to, it's no frills but you'll give no cares.

We had a double room on the 3rd floor (Room 322), it had a double bed and 1 twin bed. The windows faced the courtyard, which is really nice because there was a view and we could open our windows at night to listen to the live music playing from the courtyard (aka plaza) downstairs. Bed was clean. Walls were painted red. Bathroom was small, but it was modern! Shower screens were glass, and sink was modern and worked! It was all compacted into a small space that is typical of all Italian hotels. The drawback of this hotel was = NO TV. Not sure what happened here, but our room didn't have a TV. I guess they assumed that no one would be watching TV in Venice anyways, since there's so much to explore outside of your hotel room. They were right. :) Also, while they claimed that there was FREE wi-fi throughout the hotel, we couldn't get ANY wi-fi reception beyond the 2nd floor. If you're desperately in need of wi-fi from your room, I'd recommend that you ask for a room on the 1st or 2nd floor, because there was no connectivity on the 3rd floor and beyond. No elevators, so everyone had to lug their suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. Just keep that in mind when requesting your room! Breakfast is not included at this hotel; however, they give you a 50% off voucher to go to the cafe next door to buy pastries/coffee/drinks, if you'd like. We didn't end up using the voucher, so not sure whether the breakfast cafe is any good. Receptionist personnel were nice, friendly, and could provide you with maps + instructions on how to get to the airport bus, etc. What I liked most about this hotel was that proximity to the vaparetto stations and the closeness to the bus / train terminal. It was just a mere 5-10 minute walk to all transit centers! :) If I were to come back to Venice again, I wouldn't mind staying here for a no-frills, budget-friendly, and modern/clean/well-maintained hotel. One suggestion -- Please work on getting wi-fi to the top floors as well!!! :)

Prior to my stay in Hotel Lisbona earlier this year I might of given the hotel 5 stars but that…read morewould of been probably over generous and after my last stay my feelings about the hotel have changed. Lisbona's top attraction has to be its' situation, located on the side of a small canal with most of the rooms having a canal view and overlooking a gondolier station. There is such a romance about waking up and opening the windows to the hustle and bustle and often song of the gondoliers preparing for their trips, Lisbona has mostly small rooms like many of Venice's hotels but with very limited storage space and in a couple of rooms not even room to walk around one side of the bed! I've stayed at Lisbona five times with friends and my other half so experienced a variety of the rooms. The hotel is now in need of a facelift, it's always been spotlessly clean but become very faded now. Unfortunately on our visit this year service at reception was very cool and offhand, one of the lovely receptionists seems to have gone elsewhere and when it came to our final morning and me waking up dreadfully sick the manager was unable to offer any assistance, like the room for longer and he remained offhand as he had from the beginning of our stay.

To start, when checking in, the front desk clerk, presumably the owner, led us up 3 steep flights of stairs to our room on the third floor. He went in front of us while we trailed behind with our suitcases and he never once offered to help carry our bags which i thought was odd seeing that it's a common courtesy to at least offer your guests a helping hand. Next, you have to leave your keys at the front desk every time you leave and you have to retrieve them from the front desk when you come back. It felt a lot like being a kid with a curfew & checking in with "Mom & Dad" as if they don't trust you to carry around a simple hotel key. We didn't understand the concept because no one told us when we checked in, so our first time heading out, the owner scoffed at us for not giving the keys to him... he acted as if we should have known and was very rude & condescending. The room was far from clean. EVERYTHING in the hotel was dusty, the shower had hairs in it, the only thing that felt clean was the sheets thank goodness. But the room was so dusty my husband often had to use my inhaler because he was having breathing trouble in the night. We also had to pay the city tax up front and in euros so be prepared for that. In fairness, that's the same at most hotels but no others made us pay upfront or in cash. Long story short, the owner seems to hate his job and the people who pay to stay. I would NOT RECOMMEND. There's tons of other places to stay, spend your money elsewhere.

My husband I and absolutely fell in love with this B&B- it has the perfect location- close to all…read moreof the main attractions, however down a side street on a quiet canal. The owner, Mattio, was absolutely amazing and made sure that we had a comfortable stay. We stayed in a superior room which overlooked the canal- our room was very spacious- with a tv, large wardrobe and attached good-sized bathroom. After talking to other guests, we learned that there are some rooms that have shared bathrooms? If you're not into that, I'd suggest paying more for the larger room. I accidentally fried our outlet adaptor and luckily, in the bathroom, there was one american outlet so we were still able to charge all of our stuff without having to run searching around for a store. The room was spotless and there is free wi-fi. In our room, there also was a small fridge and if we bought a bottle of wine, you're able to store it in the large fridge downstairs. Every morning, breakfast is served from 8:30am-10:30am downstairs- weather permitting, you are able to enjoy your breakfast outside on the patio in the garden. Breakfast itself- consists of croissants and different pastries/cereal/yogurt/meats and Mattio will make you a cappuccino or coffee. Not going to lie, we had cappuccinos all over Venice and none compared to the amazing cappuccino that Mattio made for us every morning. When I told him this, he told me that he only uses the best beans- I'd probably stay here again just so that he could make me amazing cappuccino every morning :). Staying at Ponte Chiodo offered us the opportunity to really delve into Venetian culture as Mattio told us all of the good places to see and go- of course we hit up the touristy attractions, but our favorite parts of the trip involved getting lost/going to all of the local restaurants. When you check in you are instructed to go to one of their other hotels and then they will have an employee escort you to the Venice Resorts property about 5-7 min walk away. The location was fantastic because it was in the middle (or at least easy access) to most of the key sites and areas you wanted to see in Venice. They did offer free breakfast vouchers that were to be redeemed at a coffeeshop less than 3 minutes away, but I never used them. I did make one attempt but after seeing the line of customers I decided to get something elsewhere. The rooms are clean, the chamber maids were on top of things almost to the point of having to "shoo" them away, comfortable beds, good A/C (although you had to turn it off as well as lights b/c fuse issues did/would occur), near decent restaurants and very close to Pz Roma. The shower was a bit on the small side, which could pose a problem for those needing more space to move around. There was also a spot where quite a few gondoliers would hang out at (due to the bar across the sidewalk) so I did see a few people catching rides from that point. So, if that is your thing... consider it a close taxi stand (lol). I'd definitely recommend this hotel as well as stay at it again the next time I am in Venice.

This is one thing I noticed in Europe. Most are not very friendly, if you are used to the American way. You kinda feel they're cold and it's kinda awkward at first. But when you really need help and ask for it, they finally come through. There are a few exceptions though like on our way to Rome from Germany. The two Germans who assisted us with the plane transfer were warm and enthusiastic. They're the best of the Europeans, together with the Italian shuttle driver when we were leaving from Venice, we ever dealt with. So online, I reserved for 4 people in the room with Expedia. I did not get any email at all telling me that 4 isn't allowed in any of the rooms. So the attendant just told me that there is a problem with my reservation because it's only for 3 persons. To make the story short, I just agreed to getting an extra single room for £100/night. I reserved for 2 nights but only my husband was staying the first night as my girls and I are headed to Rome that same morning. But I guess due to some European rule, I wasn't allowed to get the extra room only for the second night. It had to be for both nights. It's simply unfathomable to me why so..... in America, that is not going to happen. But as they say, when in Rome....... They offer free breakfast. You could eat in their restaurant for dinner but only if the cook is available. The first room on the first floor with 3 beds is kinda decent. There was enough space to move my wheelchair. Nice wooden ceiling but everything else is typical. Comforters look a little bit old and dated though. The single room on the second floor is kinda creepy according to my daughter who slept there. It's dark without much light. There is a nice yard at least where you could walk around and get some fresh air. That is a plus. They have a crowded swimming pool which we never used. They charge £22 for an airport drop off from the hotel. Most, if not all hotels in Italy, offer shuttle service as there is a huge demand for travel. The driver is very helpful and professional. For a £10 tip, he accompanied us, pushing one of our luggage carts, all the way to the check in. The discharge attendant was much nicer than the check in attendant though. Some guy who came from southern USA with a more upbeat personality- warmer and friendlier.

A pancake maker, cereal assortments, and beverages. The dining area does get incredible full fast and it makes it hard to sit with your family if you have more than four. If you'd like you can pay extra to dine outside and enjoy the view of windows and canals. Excellent service the entire stay.
