How am I the first to review?!…read more This place was simply amazing. It's a little different in the sense that there isn't a front desk per se but checking in was a breeze. Then we were headed to our room in the elevator which opened directly to our room. I feel like I've only ever seen this in movies. There's one room per floor and although a pretty old and historic building, it was upgraded to have a kitchen in each room, amazingly comfortable bed and an AC.

The room I was in had two big palm trees blocking part of the sunset, still it was beautiful. The breakfast buffet is out of this world. Two rooms of food and beverage. Everything you could ever want for breakfast. Including a champagne cocktail. There is a small indoor pool, but nice jacuzzi area overlooking the Mediterranean. You have to get towels at the front desk for both the pool and the beach, which seems a bit odd, but not too bad if you remember ahead of time. The beach just below the hotel is too small, but down the path 200m is a larger beach that is sufficient with great views. I would highly recommend eating at Gastromar. They share the same kitchen as Michelin-rated El Brancs. The Turbot, cocktails, and dessert were excellent here.

There was no real need to leave this hotel. You can find all the relaxing you need here and it had hands down the most beautiful little cove beach and views that we saw along the coast! Felt like a 60s movie star swansong, with its cascading balconies, views, slow dining in the restaurants, and fun throwback cocktails in whimsical glassware. The breakfast was wonderful, and for lunch and dinners we ate at all three restaurants. The fare at all 3 is similar, but gets elevated in old fashioned elegance as you rose up each level. They all served seafood and we had an amazing white wine from the local vinyard! We did expect to see more "lunchy" items like fries, calamari, panini/pizzette at the beach level pirate dock bar -like more of a beach shack - but they are literally prepping out of a cool cave in the wall so no fryer is a minor thing, and it was a cheerful seaside vantage for a long lunch or drinks. Do reserve dinner upstairs as the restaurants can fill up. Last, shout-out to the welcoming help of the team at the front when you arrive! This place is a unique and romantic dream!

I called from my car and was assured I could drive to the front of the hotel, drop my bags and then continue to the parking garage around the corner. I did this succesfully although nervously. The front desk clerk was warm, professional and helpful. She told me I had been upgraded to a larger room which was a nice surprise. The room was large, clean and well appointed. There were three large french doors that looked out over the back of the hotel and it's pool. It was lovely. The location is superb as it is just around the corner to one of the bridges that crosses the river into the historic area of the city. Check out was easy and straightforward.

I was looking for a place to stay after touring the Dali museum in nearby Figueres. Based on my…read moreresearch, it seemed like Girona was a better place to stay than Firgueres and it was closer on the way back to Barcelona. Found Nord 1901 over on Trip Advisor, but I also needed to Yelp it here, of course! This wonderful, elegant boutique hotel is in the heart of wonderful Girona and walking distance to most everything that you're likely to want to do. Not grand or opulent, but this hotel and its rooms fit my taste more than most others in which I have ever stayed. Excellent front desk service with good English speakers. Parking is a little strange, off premises around the corner, but it works, and you can unload easily on the quiet street in front of the hotel. Some of the third floor rooms involve additional stairs after the top floor elevator, so plan accordingly or ask for help with your bags. Wonderful small pool in the back beyond the main lobby. There looked to be a nice optional breakfast buffet, but we didn't partake. Rates were very reasonable considering the quality. Definitely recommend! If you have ever been to Lucca Italy, Girona may remind you of it a bit. Many streets are old, narrow, one way or even dead end. My biggest tip is that even though this is a smaller city, you will most definitely need a good MAP to find this hotel and to get around. This is especially true if you are driving in. We got hopelessly lost on the way in. I only wish that we had more time to explore this wonderful, vibrant and ancient city!

It was literally a royal couple, our friend being the daughter of a Spanish Marquess (in fact his complete title was: and a Marquess of Tejada, Bailiff Grand Cross of Justice and Member of the Deputation of the Constantinian Order) was dating the Duke de Girona at the time, and for her 30th birthday, her boyfriend decided to celebrate a 4 day party at a medieval castle in the outskirts of Barcelona. So in order to stay close to where the main festivities will be held, we booked a room along with many of the guests in the Hotel Arc de Monells. This is place is nothing short of magical and spectacular, nestled in the medieval Catalonian town of Monells the building is a historical building made of stone but completely modernized inside with comfortable rooms and beautiful decor while maintaining its quaint and historical feel. The service was always fantastic, as a matter of fact, on the night of the 18th Century ball, we were having trouble getting a cab to come out to pick us up and the concierge gracefully drove us to the castle not even accepting a tip. Our room overlooked to roof of the new building which houses the dining area, pool and spa, a modern glass building with a lush green rooftop garden, it merges with the local scenery of green fields and beautiful forest perfectly well, without disturbing the feel of an idyllic place that you may find described in local folklore or tales. Our life purpose is to return to Girona, an area where many professional bike riders call home because the terrain and the weather is perfect for training for the spring classics, we will come back with our bikes and definitely stay at the Arc de Monells.
