Villa d'Este - Dark chocolate assortment

Upon arrival we were told that the men needed to be wearing jackets. I wish that our hotel had told us because my husband had packed one, but luckily the restaurant keeps spare jackets on site for just this situation. The large dining room is incredibly old school with beautiful brass dining chairs laden in blue and yellow striped fabric. When they brought out the wine list I thought it was a joke because it was the size of a dictionary! For dinner I had the beet tartare and the veal filet. The soy marinated tofu was a little bit of an odd flavor combined the beet dish but besides that it was quite good. My husband started with the gnocchi and it may have been the best dish of the night, it was dynamite. In my opinion, my veal filet was better than my husbands beef filet and I also really enjoyed the petite eggplant parmigiana that came with it. Soufflé and ice creams for dessert were a big hit, but I was especially pleased because I asked if they had some dark chocolates off menu and they brought me out a beautiful assortment that tasted as good as they looked. Great restaurant if you are looking for an elegant evening out on the town or an excuse to use the dinner jacket that you packed but thought you wouldn't need.

My family and I stayed at Hotel Miralago in Cernobbio for two nights, and it was a deeply…read moredisappointing experience. Despite confirming our reservation a day before and explaining we had just returned from almost 3 weeks of traveling across Italy, we were met with rudeness and mockery from the staff about the quantity of our luggage. They assumed we didn't understand Italian and openly made fun of us in the lobby with comments like, "Are they planning on moving here?", and laughing between them. The room was in terrible condition - peeling wallpaper, stained chairs, and holes throughout. We asked to speak with the owner, and this almost bald man with glasses, who was likely just the Manager, was particularly dismissive and unapologetic when we brought up these issues. When we addressed the rude comments we openly heard in the lobby, this Manager (who also participated in the mockery) told us that their comments were just "considerations" and "to take them as we liked." Didn't offer any apology and acted as if he didn't care whether we stayed or left. We observed similar disrespectful behavior towards other foreign guests as well, which clearly shows that this is a pattern. The staff felt too comfortable making loud and unprofessional comments, including management. The only exception was the young gentleman at the concierge, who was polite and professional. It is incredibly disappointing to be treated this way, especially considering the Ambrosini family's reputation in the hospitality industry, first as owners of the Hotel Centrale and for years of the Hotel Miralago. This level of unprofessionalism and lack of hospitality is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a 4 star hotel. We will not be returning and will advise others to avoid this place.

Especially good was the Vegetable Soup (Minestrone) and Gnocchi. The Gnocchi was light as air and flavors just melted away in your mouth. The service was excellent as well. But to top off the experience a lost wallet we did not even know was lost--returned that same night!! They had no idea who we were or where we were staying. The name in the wallet was not on the registration of our hotel. They went back to see what name was on our food charge, then called the other hotels until they found one with our name registered. They brought it over to our hotel and how surprised we were. We had no idea who had even returned it until we went back to eat here and the manager ask if we had received the wallet. Very modest and concerned. Very HONEST! We were very grateful and impressed. We sat outside and watched the world go by with a glass of wine before dinner. Everyone very congenial. No rushing you through dinner. We hope to return soon.

At check-in, the staff on the lobby floor were all very helpful and friendly. The room was also very spacious and clean which was great. Modern finishes and updated compared to other options in the area. Views from the room we had were also very nice, especially at sunset. It was great for our family that this room we booked had 2 bathrooms and a pullout bed, though the pullout bed was very hard and not very comfortable. We appreciated some of the complimentary gifts provided due to our Hilton status. Where the service slipped, was at the pool and rooftop area. On our second to last day, 2 of us decided to head to the pool around 3pm. It was busy and there were not any spots to sit/lay down. Many chairs had towels and belongings left on them where people had either left to go into the pool or left to their room to come back later or potentially not at all. We waited for some assistance near the bar area and eventually, some other guests arrived, trying to scope out spots as well. After about 15 minutes, I approached one of the guys walking around and asked if there were any spots available. He talked with one of his partners and they walked around a bit and said everything is taken (no kidding). I asked if any of the spots were just towels people left and they were done for the day and he claimed it's impossible to know. He then said to wait off to the side and he'd get us a chair to place our things so we could go in the pool. We stood off to the side (in the hot sun) for about 20 min and he never brought us the chair. We watched him walk around doing other things avoiding eye contact with us. Yet, his colleague helped another couple who arrived after us get a spot. We decided enough is enough and left. The staff need to do a much better job cleaning spots off when people leave and actually follow-through on their work. Additionally, there should be time limits so that someone cannot claim a lounge chair in the morning and use it all day long so that no one else can use the pool. There's limited space to begin with so something should be done. Additionally, the pool closed at 6PM which I think is very early and pretty unreasonable. I'm assuming this is because they do not want the noise or inconvenience for their restaurant but still. The restaurant is a whole other experience, but overall, poor food quality, slow, and overpriced. Overall, if visiting Como again, I would likely choose another place to stay as this location could use some improvements to quality of service and overall value when looking at your nightly price.

We were looking for some rest and relaxation, ideally in a beautiful setting with good food. This hotel absolutely delivered. We had a suite facing the lake with a large balcony. The suite and the balcony were both excellently appointed, and quite large. The bed was very comfortable. The couch, bureau, desk and chairs were all in excellent condition. The room itself was beautiful, with era appropriate design. The balcony was excellent, comfortable and quite large. There were two outdoor lounge chairs, and a table with two chairs. With all of that, there was still enough room left on the balcony for my morning workout. The grounds are beautiful. And the hotel continues its use of greenery on the balconies to separate areas for each suite. All done tastefully and the plants are all in very good condition. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. An assortment of croissants, made to order omelets, cereal, yoghurts, fruit, excellent cheeses, meats . . . It goes on and on. The staff were quite lovely and extremely helpful. In truth, I was prepared for a bit of pushback when my wife and I showed up - we are gay. Not even a blink of an eye from anyone. Unfortunately, these days that is a welcome relief. And the spa - out of this world! Massages, lovely jacuzzi/hot tub, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath and more. If you are a guest the hotel there is a small fee for the use of the spa. The pool is lovely. It sits right next to lake Como. Jumping in was easy, if you have the stamina for cold water. There is a small cafe at the pool with food and drinks. The staff brings your order out to wherever you are sitting. The village of Maltrasio is filled with beauty and lovely people. The hotel is on the shore and the village goes up the hill. The walk to the village is short, but a bit steep. All in all this is a lovely place to come if you want beauty, relaxation, good food and kind people.
