Thanks for a perfect weekend. We appreciated the warm welcome, the beautifully renovated and…read morecomfortable rooms and the unique very tasteful dinner. Of course we also have enjoyed the magnificent hiking area that offers trails for everybody. The hotel Vallatscha is very good if you (in an idyllic nature without mass tourism) look for a variety of splendid hiking, walking and snowshoeing trails. The large selection of beautiful trails and routes is overwhelming. For skiers the hotel bus does bring guests to the 4 km away Disentis (and back). Many thanks to the entire team for the very well accommodation and the excellent food. The cost-benefit ratio ist extraordinarily good.

Then, the spa itself is an amazing building built by Peter Zumthor (Google it) entirely out of the local rock. He has created an unforgettable experience. Try swimming out though a quartzite rock doorway into the heated pool at night and sit in the steam looking at the snow and stars. On the other hand, you're in a rather ordinary little Swiss village, so if you want to leave the hotel there's not much to see unless you want to go hiking. Bring books and a swimsuit. You can get there pretty easily by (very efficient) public transport: train from the airport, changing several times, and then a bus taking a spectacular route winding through the valleys.

If you want to ski Gemsstock it is in a good location. It is about an 8-minute walk over to the train station and Andermatt ski lift. There are free buses though that you can take if you don't want to walk the whole way. They have a ski locker room and ski racks by the entrance of the hotel. Hotel Sonne was such a cozy place to stay. Our room was so nice! Everything was very clean. They did come and clean our room daily. We also ate here. I think this is one of the best restaurants in town if you want some traditional Swiss food. They've got a huge menu with lots of options. In such a snowy environment it was so nice to be in a hotel that felt like a big hug! At the least come check out their restaurant!

It basically said the room was up a bunch of stairs and also has no air conditioning, but it was pretty much the only affordable option so we risked it. I really loved the attic room! The shared bath and shower were tiny but you could see a waterfall out the small window... so cool! Also, the breakfast was huge and delicious. The property had lots of nice communal spaces and had tea and coffee available all day. I really liked staying here!
