We got interconnecting rooms, which are different from how I think of connecting rooms. Our rooms shared a short hallway, and both the hallway door and the individual rooms used the same lock. We were given two keycards, both of which were needed to keep the electricity on in the rooms. As our kids are young, this was not ideal, as it was too easy for someone to get locked out of a room. This would be a better set up for families with older kids or couples traveling together. The hotel was clean and modern. There's a very decent gastropub in the lobby. Our room came with daily breakfast, and we thought the breakfast was very good. Eggs and pancakes to order, pretty extensive buffet including serrano ham and pate, fresh honeycomb, decent fresh fruit options, churros, and fresh squeezed orange juice. The kids enjoyed all three morning breakfasts. The hotel location is within a 10-20 minute walk of pretty much anything you'd want to see in Granada (although the walk to the Alhambra would be steep), but there's also a taxi queue two blocks away if you're feeling lazy.

Barcelo Carmen Granada is in a great location and within walking distance to everything.

The hotel's interior is very unique - it has both Arabic and Christian influence. The exterior is an oasis of beautiful plants and flowers. Our room on the second floor offers a breathtaking view of the gardens of the Generalife (see photos below). The room is pretty contemporary with an updated bathroom. Breakfast buffet offers many choices, although not everything is good. The terrace has gorgeous view of the Generalife, but be warned that there are tons of bees and birds. Service is so so at best. The front staff do an adequate job, but they don't go above and beyond. The location is at the Alhambra perched on the hill, therefore it's not as convenient for dinning out. We got a taxi every time we went out for lunch or dinner. If you prefer being in the city center close to many dinning and drinking options, this is not for you. If you want a unique hotel located within a historic site, consider this hotel!

It is actually open, so don't abandon hope. While I am not a huge fan of hotel restaurants we chose to stay in since it was raining (and they offered no umbrellas) and there is absolutely nothing nearby to walk to anyway. The French onion soup was going to be my all time favorite white onion soup but the chef burned the Emmental cheese on top--below the topping is was really good. Unfortunately I could taste it in nearly every bit--so disappointing. Did I mention it was raining and we didn't want to go out again? My fault not wanting to navigate in the rain. Huge huge room (see photo). We needed a Sherpa to find the bathroom! Giant whirlpool tub separate from the shower. Good value for the buffet breakfast which was 7,5 euros and good selections. Huge lobby which reminds me of those palatial hotels in Turkmenistan which aren't occupied by any living being. Wait, this place is called The Granada Palace. Overall, a great stay until the two mega tour buses decided to back up outside our room but it was time to get up anyway.

Overall I'd come back, but with my own cooler of supplies.

When we walked into the room there was an unpleasant odour which we put down to the room not being used and therefore aired. The room itself was oddly tiled from floor to mid-wall, which whilst I am sure is great for cleaning and in the summer cool, was very unusual and a bit creepy and soul-less. The shower cubical was in its last legs, the doors look like someone had a made an effort at fixing them but that they'd fall off, although other amenities looked fine. Windows opened onto a roof storage area and I understand why they were kept closed due to security. Also when I say windows, these were more hatches, which had the positive affect that at night the room was pitch black - which was very creepy. We had a snack downstairs and wish we hadn't, being a Sunday it was a limited menu and we ordered what we thought was a tortilla, but came as fried egg in a sandwich. Although the red wine was okay! To be honest this place just felt extremely cheap and not well looked after - although I get this as it is a motorway event space - indeed I saw a great event room out the back and assume they must hire out to have parties etc here, and that if it was used and therefore looked after, it could be a great place. However it isn't and I'd recommend that you take your time and try another place to stay that isn't here and which has at least some sort of actual character.

We spent one night here and loved every minute of it. We initially did not plan on having dinner here (it's extra, about 35 euros per person) but last minute changed our mind and they were able to accommodate us. Its a four course menu, portions are very small, but by the end of it we were stuffed. There is an outdoor area where you can relax, eat/drink, read a book etc. The swimming pool is in a quiet corner with a great view of the plains! Drinks available poolside. Some of the best tinto de verano I had! We would definitely come back and recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet reprieve. My only pet peeve is that there is a slight up charge on everything - a typical tinto de verano in town might be 1.5-2 euros, here it's about 4-5 euros. Same with the tapas etc.

There are also a few tables and chairs outside, so it would be a great place to read or catch up on writing in your travel journal, or just to relax. Our room was big, our bed was big, and our bathroom was big. We both had a good sleep that night. We paid in advance when we booked and got 15% off the room. We had to leave early in the morning before breakfast started, but they do offer it for 6,95 EUR per person. Like I said, we were only in Granada for one night, but the location seemed great and quite it would be quite easy to get anywhere you wanted to, or there is lots to do in that area as well. The reception staff also ordered a cab for us in the evening to take us to the airport the next morning. The only negative about that was, as she was telling us our options, she said the aiport bus took 45 minutes, and a cab also took 45 minutes. In reality the cab only took 15 minutes, so we could have gotten that little bit of extra sleep in the morning!

We kind of felt we established relationships with the staff at the end. The hotel is beautiful. You feel like you are in Spain in the hotel. The plaza is so peaceful to have a meal or just to relax. The are several beautiful rooms and the hotel has a interesting history. The rooms are comfortable. I liked the bathroom because it's spacious and the bed was super comfortable. The only thing to consider is that only one hotel room has an outdoor space. We had dinner and breakfast. The dinner was good. Food was somewhat flavorful but again, the ambiance is fantastic and relaxing. Service was warm, patient, and timely. This is one of the few breakfast places nearby that provides comprehensive choices and an American style breakfast. The breakfast is tasty. The price includes both a buffet and menu choices. The only slight concern is the breakfast is approximately $30 per person which is very expensive compared to other options in the area and outside the area. I strongly recommend for any visitor to Granada to consider this hotel.
