We rented a vacation home that was located a few mins walk from the castle. It's a family owned castle and has been in existence for over 700 years. The area is lovely and surrounded by tons of farmland. If you are looking for a quite country holiday it is a great location. Wachau wine region is about 30 min drive from here and there are some pretty towns in the area. It's not a great hiking destination as trails are few and far between and not well marked. The house we had was quite ok and very old style farm cottage. Unfortunately it was right next to a working farm and the farmer was out all day tending to his farm with noisy equipment. The house was also not well kitted out and certainly not good for 6 people as advertised on their website. The marketing was also much better then what the place actually looked like. Needs some TLC and better things in the house throughout. The furniture was cheap and bed too soft. The upstairs bedroom was a bit impractical and we barely used it. Loved the area and would come back to the area again but would look for a different house to stay in. Whilst we loved the house itself the overall furniture and total lack of outdoor furniture made it a little unpleasant.

I could happily spend an afternoon here enjoying the scenery and having a cold beverage or two. The menu here is quite extensive and they have a daily specials board. The staff are super friendly and prices are quite reasonable. The reality is that if you are not playing golf you are not likely to come here. I do however understand that many locals come here for a meal and you can see signs for this restaurant in nearby towns. I had a salad and it was huge. Tasted great and it was good fresh produce and cheese. The addition of apple and pumpkin oil (a nice Austrian touch) made the flavour and taste quite intense.
