We stayed eight days at Fründt's in October 2017, & fully enjoyed the whole time; I can't say…read moreenough nice things about this hotel & its employees. From the gracious welcome to the sweet "Auf Wiedersehen", the week was a delight. Our room was always spotlessly clean with the best down-&-feather duvet I've slept under (the perfect weight & thickness, in my mind, with no discernible feather quills), & I've been sleeping under them since 1971 (!!). The breakfast buffet was gorgeous, with varying offerings of beautiful cheeses (aged, runny, bleu, sliced...a smörgåsbord!) and cured meats, lox, warm Brötchen (my favorite had pepitas), jams, luscious butter, scrambled eggs & bacon, soft-boiled eggs, cereals, numerous juice offerings, fruit, breakfast salads, yogurts...& on & on & on. The adorable lady who ran the breakfasts even noticed I drank tea, so made a suggestion to try the apple one (she was right; it was yummy). I bought too much (is that possible???) Polish pottery in Bolesławiec, so had to ship most of it. When I needed a large box, one of the Fründt's managers emptied out supplies in the storeroom so I could have the box!! THAT'S service! I also loved knowing that I had a safe, well-lit parking spot waiting for me on the days that we drove out to see the regions' many amazing sights. Oh! Fründt's is also right downtown, a 2-3 minute walk (max) to the town square, with every type of business you could wish for along the route. Next time we visit Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (soon, I hope - it's a sorely under-represented state in most guidebooks, I found), there is no doubt in our mind; we will stay at Fründt's Hotel Wismar.

This is where I stay when I go to Lubeck - it was down the street from my grandparents house which was the main reason because she knew our family but also it's just out of the town about a 20 min walk along the river The street is quiet and the rooms are refreshing. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the breakfast in this place. If you are an "american" you're not going to get your fry up of eggs and bacon. Your typical German brekkie is a hard boiled egg, along with hot fresh rolls from the bakery (which are to die for - the butter and bun just melts in your mouth) along with your classic cold cuts and cheese. If you are ify on those options she also has a some yogurt to the side and some musli. Of course I always some back to this Pension because we personally know one another and have stayed with her many times that is forms a relationship but her prices are reasonable, it's clean and she is friendly Last time I saw her she was picking up a few english phrases - of course language is kind of a barrier but she's getting there :) If you do give her a try - walk to the end of Bulowstr and head into the park to walk towards the town... there are a few lovely picture ops where you can get the whole city in the background if you stand at the top of the hill :)

The double room we had was set up with a tv (complete with I think 3 channels and lots of static!), two desks (back to back so it seems like you're playing 'office'), and dead animals hanging on the walls. But don't get me wrong...the staff is great and the hotel is clean. The breakfast, although not included in the price of the room, is delicious and worth it (plus there's not much else around so unless you want to eat one of the dead animals on the wall you better cough up the $ for breakfast). I think the two of us went a little crazy during our one-night stay there, but in a way it was nice to get away from the business of city life...for a night. Not sure if I'd recommend staying longer unless you're an avid hunter.
