Outstandingly friendly and helpful proprietors and staff. The room was comfortable and breakfasts were worth getting up for! An excellent hotel for a relaxing few days in the country or an overnight stop en route to Belgian ports/UK. read more

The Terrace Bar at 1898 The Post:…read more Oh my goodness - we just arrived - staying for 1 night. Staying at The Post and wanted to grab a bite. We asked where some restaurants were and got a list of good ones. But as we walked outside and saw this cute little terrace with chairs facing the canal (with blankets) and had such a great vibe, we thought there's no better place to be then literally right here! We enjoyed a couple lattes it got the tapas plate. How perfect! So here we sit, enjoying the sun, the walkers-by, the boats on the canal and the amazing views.

We did take a taxi, but found out the entrance for guests is around the back on the cobblestone. You will need to go up to an elevator to find the lobby. The inside of the hotel is very cool, and very themed towards the old post office vibe that it used to be. The staff at the front desk is very nice and accommodating, and they will walk you to your room and show you everything. We had a room that was a king bed loft style, with the bathroom on the second level. They had cocktails little treats and stuff in the mini bar in the room. The bed was very comfortable. The windows opened up and looked out right into the city center. Wow it was beautiful and the perfect location!!! There are plenty of things within walking distance to the hotel, including the Castle, bars and restaurants, the river bus stop tram stop, etc. The hotel has an on-site bar and restaurant. We had a few cocktails from the bar. It was super cozy and a really good time! It appeared a lot of people from the city were there so it was a highly sought after bar to go to. Overall I really recommend staying at the post even if it's a little bit more expensive it's totally worth it!!

We absolutely adored this hotel…read more Checking in our room was far away from the elevators as requested and we realized they'd gifted us a delicious fruit plate when we opened our door. The view from our room was fantastic, one of the best we've ever had while traveling, and we loved the comfortable chair and bench facing the water. I do wish they had a bit more luggage space but the hotel was welcoming and comfortable and it's an old building which, we discovered on a tour, used to be a brothel. The hotel's history is showcased through the two gold swans that still sit facing away from each other on the front of the building. The swans symbolize fidelity and by facing away from one another and in gold they were a notification for potential patrons who could not read. To go back to the hotel in it's current form, the lobby includes two glass elevators at opposite ends of the hotel and breakfast is offered in the adjoining restaurant in the mornings. All in all, our stay at the Ghent Marriott Hotel was wonderful and I would highly recommend it to those looking to visit Ghent.

That being said I didn't even mind paying the citation because of the wonderful stay and staff.

Their customer service is 5-star from the very moment you email them. Friendly, helpful, prompt replies to emails in perfect English, which is very useful. Brothers Jeffrey and Steven have a trusting yet professional approach to daily business which makes you feel like a part of the family. They gave us excellent recommendations of cool spots to eat out, explore, and go out that were definitely off the beaten path for many tourists. As others have said, the breakfast is delightful, the rooms are incredibly spacious, and the linens and beds soft, clean, and comfortable. The location near the train station is actually great (I'm usually wary of such places) and the tram into the centre of town is cheap and only takes about 5 minutes. I absolutely cannot recommend this hotel enough and all of us in the Orlando Chamber Choir wish them the utmost success.

Holiday Inn Gent Expo
While it's not the most elegant place that I've ever stayed and it really is in need of updating, I…read morejust keep coming back to this place every time I'm working with our Benelux partner. My Belgian colleague lives near Gent and this a very convenient place for him to pick me up (much more so than going into the city). But beyond that, it serves as a much more cost-effective and convenient base for the time that I spend in Flanders. Beyond the fact that this location works well for my colleague, it is also convenient to public transportation. I can fly to Brussels (or Amsterdam for that matter), take a train to Gent St. Pieter's and take Tram 1 to its terminal point at Gent Expo where it is less than a five-minute walk to the hotel. I can get there in a car-free manner which is a huge benefit in Belgium. On the flip side, if I want to go into Gent for dinner or to see the sights, it is a simple 20-minute tram ride to city center without changes (about 10 or 12 minutes to St. Pieter's). And I have to say that the fact that I love Gent and that it's one of my favorite cities in Europe adds to the overall general positive feeling about this place. Part of the reason I keep coming back is the fact that the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is also pretty good with a nice breakfast buffet and a decent dinner menu. It's built in the old Holiday Inn atrium style, which is nostalgic in a way, though I don't yearn for much in the way of 70s and 80s nostalgia. The rooms are very clean and well kept but the wooden cabinets and accessories in the room again scream 20th century. They could really use an update. On the other hand, they do offer a couple of interesting amenities including a pool table in the lobby lounge. They also have a full bar at the restaurant if you feel like just hanging around the hotel instead of going into town. Aside from the convenience and accommodating staff, the other attractive thing here is the price. It is a very cost-effective option. Most of the time, I can get a rate between 100€ and 150€. My last stay was closer to 190€ with breakfast because of the cycling event in town. But that is not the norm. You also have to watch the events at the Expo and navigate around those, but that's not that difficult, really. In general, I would say this hotel is a very good choice if you are visiting the wonderful city of Gent. The hotel location itself is not so exciting (unless you like IKEA, which is located across the parking lot). However, it offers easy access to the train station and the city and the staff are easy to work with. And a major plus is the fact that the price is right and you get your IHG points as well. It's a good choice for your visit to Gent.

So I've stayed in a LOT of 5star hotels. All have been grand but THIS hotel outshines them all. I have been here before - quick stays as a 'sidebar', over nighters. But this time decided on an extended stay. It's a smaller hotel, less than 20rpoms in total. But each is elegant & comfy & welcoming. Our suite is beautifully arranged with gorgeous roof top views and a sun deck for the 4 rooms on our floor. The unbelievably gorgeous restaurant is by night the amazing Le Mystique (wonderful food, elegant atmosphere, and the kindest, most attentive staff!! A MUST!!). and a beautifully done breakfast buffet by when the sun comes up. Their specialty is poached eggs and OH!! Are they 'special'!! Charcuterie & Sausages & Bacon & breads & fruits & grains & yogurts & cakes & juice & coffee & Champagne round out the delicious menu. The location is perfect! A 3 min walk to the main market place, 5 min to the main shopping area, and dozens of restaurants close by. A local food market is across & a bit down the street & Belgium Waffles are a hop away. But far and away.. the thing that separates this hotel from all others are those who seem to love working here. If I could figure out how to rate a review with 6 stars, I would give them 20. To say they are accommodating would be a bit like saying winning a hundred gazillion billion dollar lottery is 'a pleasant afternoon'. I could spend hours, remembering the kindnesses & smiles & attentive acts and never feel as tho I have given them enough respect. They are truly all just spectacular. I was very impressed with the modernity of the room. It had a button-controlled light system installed by the door, the desk, and the bed, with options for dim lighting, table lighting, or full lighting. It was also equipped with two outlets and USB ports, one by the desk and one by the bed. The bathroom was large and accessible - support beams surrounding the WC and a big shower with two wide doors.
