I would say the Hotel Vilamar is a spot on three-star experience. It will do just fine if you're staying in the Copacabana area but it also won't wow you. I'll break down a little bit of the good and not quite as good. I'll start with some of their opportunities.
The rooms are nothing special. They're clean and safe, but that's really about it. They don't have a whole lot of character or personality. But they are outfitted well. We had a mine-fridge, a safe, a decent TV (with a few English channels) and solid water pressure. The aircon wasn't great but it did the job. I would describe the rooms as functional.
The breakfast and the service were where the hotel really shined. Breakfast offered plenty of options and I never left the hotel hungry in the morning. The service as always spot on. We ran into a few issues and they were resolved easily and with grace. English was readily spoken and we never had an issue communicating.
I would stay here again, but I'd look into spending a bit more and see what else is out there. Ultimately, you're in Rio at the beach. So, if this fits the budget, go for it. It's not like you're going to spend a ton of time if your room anyway. read more
