I got a free breakfast voucher via email and a welcome water which u must collect at the bar (but that's no big deal). I also made a request that I was arriving very late and could I have a room away from the lift lobby and sure thing - they satisfied my request. Location: I had two very heavy cases so needed to take a taxi from the Hauptbahnhof (Main Station). It's about a 10min drive.(sub €20) But my return journey was via S-Bahn. About 10 min train journey from Rosenheimerplatz (that's about 7 minutes walk from the hotel). For guests arriving late in the dark via this route one you turn right past the VW showroom - the hotel is 100m further on into this kinda darkish road - the hotel would benefit from an illuminated sign on the side of the hotel so u can find it easier for the first time - like a shining beacon of welcome. (S-Bahn is the German local train service within large cities and between towns in an area. The central portion (Stammstrecker) of it in Munich is underground too and all the lines link the Hauptbahnhof and key central stops including Marienplatz and the hotel's station - so it's just part of the integrated transport system). Check-In: Very helpful and cheerful receptionist even at midnight. Explained the free wi-fi codes are on the bottom of my bill. Also gave me the voucher for the free bottle of water. Three lifts to the floors - which despite being an eight floor hotel - there was virtually no waiting even at busy breakfast times - and the hotel seemed full (from the breakfast crowd). Bar / oneLounge: I ventured down to collect my free water and was taken back by the vast and intimate space they had created with soft lighting and it was packed out. My 6 hour train journey meant all I needed was sleep and couldn't join the party vibe. The bottle was a nice 0.75l still water. If you wanted more a similar bottle of Gerolsteiner costs €4. Tip: go to ALDI discount supermarket at Rosenheimplatz station and you probably come away with 8 liters! But note, there is a quiet lounge too directly near reception so if you need quiet time - this has big leather sofas and collaborative working space table and plenty of other stuff going on but Friday to Sunday I didn't see it being used. There is also outside seating and tables accessible through the bar. Room: This is not a luxury hotel but then again it's definately not what most of us imagine of a "motel" based on US movies perhaps. Rooms simple: No big wardrobe, a rail by the mirror and a cleverly designed hidden handing space by the window behind the bed/lamp facade. Ingenious for me. There is shelving space which makes up for no desk or vanity unit. There is a little round table and a stool which accompany the very comfortable leather chair. The bed was super comfortable and the sheets are fine. I mean just great (clean and white). Ok but I hear they are Egyptian Cotton if you are into details. There are downlighters in the ceiling but two spots above the pillow area. I found these a bit tricky as i directly the beam away from my face but then had trouble locating the switch in the dark as I felt the rotating mechanism covered it. (Leave that to the designers amongst you to check it out). Nice full length window that opened too. Thick curtains that blacked out the room. TV Enough local channels and dw.de which is an excellent rolling news channel in English. There are radio channels too. I didn't spend much time checking out it's features although I couldn't set up the alarm but I was dead tired :-(There is a warming artificial fire displayed on it when you arrive. Considering it was 22c and sunny - it felt a bit comical and made my friends laugh on Instagram when I posted my feet being roasted by the fire. Bathroom: Very well designed compact bathroom with walk-in shower, storage shelf and two big mirrors, oh and in my opinion very fluffy towels. (C Toiletries: This was a big surprise, organic linden flower face & handwash and 100% mint organic hair & body wash. I didn't want to leave the shower. Quiet: for a hotel of 8 stories I hardly saw anyone in the lifts - or even waited long for one Breakfast. Continental breakfast so meats, cheese, breads. juice, coffee, tea, croissants, cereals, fruit ... basically plenty. And even if you didn't book it it advance you can pay on the day but you need to do this at reception - so could get stuck behind someone checking in. Staff were even wandering around offering expresso. nice touch! I took mine to the bar area and worked well as the overflow place- the space age silver chair really made it! Housekeeping: Totally not intrusive, I'm fed up of hotels that knock too early. ROOMS: Beds are small and the linens are not top quality, but the rooms are clean and spacious enough. My biggest complaint about this place would be that it can get quite warm in the rooms, and the a/c, as far as I could tell, is an open window. The open window method, while better for the environment, can be problematic because the traffic just outside the Windows is oddly noisy. So, my travel buddy/roommate needed to keep the window shut--rather stuffy!!

Services in the bar and restaurant were exceeding expectations. The price was fairly reasonable too. Enjoyed the sort of small courtyard for little wine and chat with F&F in the evening. Now, some negatives. Rooms were well sized and spacious, quite clean too, but old and require updating. The main issue is antiquated A/C system that doesn't work properly. This is not true A/C, more like fan that provides air flow, but doesn't really refrigerate an air inside the room. Interesting: we has exactly the same issue in June in Bologna, Italy where we stayed in June in Mercure. Also, it is busy location, so it was noisy in the mornings for light sleepers, like myself. We had to open windows just to sleep, and the morning noise woke me up. Finally, it is not a great area of Munich, at least on one side the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. Not horrible, bit still. If you walk in the opposite direction, it is convenient and easy walk to the center.

There's lots of restaurants, and easy transit to anywhere in the city with all the public transit spots that take off within the block from here. The hotel itself was alright. It wasn't very quiet- since it's so centrally located, you could hear all the hustle and bustle from the street below. But it had comfortable beds, a nice television and a decent bathroom. The rooms were clean, and had a mini-bar, for high prices. The television had many English channels, including Russia Today, which was nice. The best thing about this hotel was the breakfast, hands down. They had an extensive bread bar, with pretzels, loaves of rye, croissants- tons of carbs. The meats were delicious- thinly sliced savory salamis and hams. They also had lots of options for coffee- with a machine that churned out lattes and cappuccinos. The spread was amazing. They had a few free newspapers sitting out, but none of them were in English. The staff was friendly and fast with getting the old plates out of the way and bringing out fresh food. The breakfast here rocks. The only real drawback about this place was the one singular elevator that took forever to get anywhere. It was tiny and cramped. But the building looks pretty old- they have pictures of what it used to look like before it was all remodeled/rebuilt.

Finding a place for less than $100 a night in Munich can be a bit painful. We were recommended the Hotel Monaco by a friend of mine from college who had stayed here last summer while travelling across Europe. I'm so glad she saved me from the $160/night LeMeridien I was contemplating (which would have been nice, but the $180 I saved was better). Upon arrival around noon, we were shown to Room 407, a double room with shared bathroom. It was as expected - this is the kind of place where you need to be able to discern between old dirt and just old. Some broken tiles, some chipped paint, worn fixtures...there's a reason why it's inexpensive! The room was clean, and that was what was important to me. The only thing that I disliked about the room was that the two beds were separated into different bed frames, so it wasn't an option to really sleep with my husband. Oh well. The shared bathroom was fine. Again, old but not dirty. We had breakfast one of our two mornings. It is a very nice spread - if you eat your fill, you could skip lunch. I'm not a huge breakfast person, so I'd rather keep my 8 euros and spend 2 or less on a breakfast pastry. Christine checked us out at 6:30 am when we were headed to the Welt for our pickup; aside from a misunderstanding on my side (the TripAdvisor coupon is only for 1 breakfast, not for both parties), easy peasy. When we returned a week later, we were shown to a double room with ensuite bath (when we went to make our reservation, the shared bath option was full booked). Our room was more comfortable (mattresses were not separated by a frame, much larger room) but the location wasn't as ideal. It was right on the main street and between the lobby & the breakfast room, so there was a lot of street noise & breakfast noise. Luckily we are early risers, so the breakfast noise wasn't too painful. Check-out was easy. We left our bags and went to explore Munich for a few more hours before we came back to fetch our bags and head to the airport. This was a great value that helped us stay on budget for our 9 day trip. Is it luxurious? Absolutely not. Did I stay in nicer hotels in Germany elsewhere for the same budget? Yes. But it's a reasonably priced option for Munich, which isn't inexpensive, and the staff members are quite lovely and speak fluent enough English (a plus since my husband does not speak German, and it saved me from making trips to the desk with him to translate). The free wifi made it easy for us to keep up with the world. Also, having an underground entrance 1.5 blocks from the hotel made life easy. If in Munich again and on a tight budget, we would definitely consider staying here again.

Basically, functional, but definitely not romantic or cute. €80 a night for two people is quite high. The proximity to the city center is okay, but you're right next to the train station and the neighborhood is dirty and sketchy. Lots of sex workers, big groups of kinda drunk men, but also students, backpackers, etc. I didn't feel comfortable If you're on a strictly budget-based trip, do a different hostel. If you're on a getaway, spend a little more or go a little further out.

What really kept me awake was the water running through the pipes. It sounded as though I'd passed out in a public restroom with my head next to a constantly flushing toilet, rather than sleeping in a private room. Despite this, I would stay here again (and bring earplugs).

Really not the standard I was expecting given how much I was paying. Ultimately, there are many other affordable hotels in the area. If you're Booking sufficiently in advance, check out the rest first. Only if they're all full or too exorbitantly prices should you move on to Smart Stay Hotel Station.

I loved my stay at this hotel!…read more Location: When you pull up to the hotel, you might notice the gentleman's clubs and gambling houses but honestly, I never felt unsafe walking to and from the hotel at any hour of the day. The location is extremely close, less than 5 minutes walking to Munich Central Train Station. About a 20 minute walk to Marienplatz. Room: We showed up a little early but got lucky with an early check-in since they finished cleaning our room early. It was really clean! Not a single suspect hair leftover that I could see. Everything in the mini-fridge is complimentary. There was still and sparking water, beer, cola, and either apple or orange juice. The room was also stocked with Ronnefeldt brand tea (German made and the same they have at breakfast) and coffee. There were also gummies left on the pillow. We had two twin beds and our room was configured so these were tucked back into an alcove which was nice and snug. The mattresses and duvets were pretty amazing. Insanely comfortable. The duvet was incredibly warming, so much so that we were able to leave the window open a smidge in the winter. All of the lights in the room can be controlled by the bed. The bathroom toiletries were mostly of the Rituals brand which smelled great. A rainfall showerhead and handheld shower were available. There was even a heated towel rack! The room was big enough for us to have both our suitcases open and still walk around comfortably. Front-Desk: The front-desk staff were all very helpful. They helped us map out routes to points of interest, deciphering our tickets and coordinating with our tour groups, and helped us with getting supplies when we ran out (tissue and water when it wasn't restocked). There was usually fruit (either apples or oranges) available at the front-desk. Sometimes there were chocolates. Breakfast: The breakfast staff were realllly amazing. A special shoutout to Merita (I hope the spelling is correct)! I think she managed the breakfast service. She was so friendly and after a few days remembered my coffee order! She always made my latte with a chocolate stencil which made it extra special. It was really chaotic in the mornings with everyone coming and going, but she managed to keep the buffet stocked and spotless. The actual breakfast itself was actually very good for a free breakfast. The menu changes a tiny bit each day but you'll find a hot food section with eggs and protein, granola and yogurt bar area, charcuterie area, and pastry area. The croissants were amazing! Honestly better than any I've had in Canada. The pretzels they had were also a sleeper pick. They managed to be soft even though they kinda just hung out there. A single staff member manned the desk when I walked in and he continued talking on the telephone for many minutes before finally hanging up to check me in. This annoyance was my first impression of the hotel but thankfully things mostly got better from that point. My room on the sixth floor was spacious and included a kitchenette. The mini fridge contained still and sparkling water, orange juice, Coca Cola and a beer, all gratis. The room was plenty warm and the window opened completely such that I was able to climb out and see the city's snow-covered roof tops. That was probably my favourite bit about my stay at the Schiller 5. The wifi, while free, was not intuitive to connect to and fairly slow. The neighbourhood is a touch seedy (strip clubs, sex shops and the like line the street) but it is very central and if you arrive late in the evening there are still plenty of quick options for food. All told, Schiller 5 was solid enough for me to consider returning. And if you can get it for under €100/night, it's good value too.

The hotel does offer breakfast and also had bike rentals. We stayed on the 6th floor and had a great room with vaulted ceilings and a view out to the road. The room was updated and spacious, as well as the bathroom. If you have a lot of luggage or difficulty with stairs, select any other floor as the elevator only goes up to the 5th floor and then we had to take on flight up. Not an issue for us but more an FYI. Location was easy to get to the station and around Munich. I will say it's in the "red light" district but there seems to be few locations but we did have a couple people yelling later in the evening and could tell people were going out in the area. Didn't bother us much and ended earlier in the night. There was construction going on during the day at a building on the corner so looks like more revamping and improving in the area. The hotel was surprisingly inexpensive for a last minute booking and for the location so close to the station. This is a great spot for those looking for an nice hotel in a good location without paying too much!

This was not really a real apartment though, no kitchen, just a living room, bedroom, and bathroom. There was however a huge rooftop terrace. Really nice! There are plenty of shops and restaurants right in the area and walking to some of the major attractions from there is not a problem at all.
