The hotel and restaurant are more like worth 3 stars. Our room was cosy and clean, but small. You could hear telephone conversations and light snoring from the next room... About 5 rooms are using the same toilet and shower - we were at 7th floor and our toilet was located on 5th, which meant both running the stairs up and down and queing. If I was the hotel keeper I would also modernise the showers and toilets. Everything was anyway working and water was hot, and 1952 build lighthouse surely isn't the easiest place to renovate as a hotel. In any case I got a bit hostel-like feeling of the hotel, so I suppose I really was paying the relatively high price of the great view.
The pier cafe was (of course) expensive, but they had a terrace with a view, excellent korvapuusti buns and nice local beers.
We had full dinner at the Lighthouse hotel restaurant. Service was very nice and the view great from there too. The food was ok but not worth the price - it was easy to see how many of the things were coming straight from the fridge or a plastic bag. They were also trying to hide the taste of vacuumed potatoes under a huge amount of butter. Also the breakfast was just ok - bacon slices were hard and cold, breakfast buns couple of days old and dry, but there was basically everything you needed.
After all the food wasn't bad and I know it's hard to get fresh ingrendients every day when you are located on a tiny island, but I would have appreciated a little more trying. I got a feeling they promised me much more they were actually giving.
And once more: the lighthouse itself if great, the nature and birdlife in this small island rich and the archipelago beutiful. I strongly recommend visiting Kylmäpihlaja as an island, and maybe staying in the hotel - mostly because of the view.
