Larger facility, better location, more space for activities, separate area for childcare (Though I'm not positive childcare is always provided - might want to call ahead for that) Still top-notch workout regime from a very attentive staff. ---- Original review: I've been coming to Levee Crossfit for a couple years now, so I may be slightly biased, but the classes here are absolutely top notch. Dain always comes up with a new Workout Of the Day, and what separates this Crossfit Box is the utilization of the levee at least once per week for workouts. In terms of the facility, it's a work in progress. Pretty small and not your typical gym, but that's pretty normal for a Crossfit box (gym). But there's normally a decent amount of great people, young and old, men and women, black and white, that you workout with, which can truly motivate you to do your best every rep, and keep you wanting to come back even through the pain of the work. If you're looking for a place to work out, especially if you're looking for something on the West side of the Mississippi River, I highly recommend Levee Crossfit. As a beginner in CrossFit, I didn't have idea what to expect or what to do, and I appreciate the fact that Dain, (the owner and trainer) takes the time to instruct beginners and change the rutine adjusting it to your specific need. - There is private parking in the new location. - They have a class starting every hour from 5:00am - 9:00am, at 12:30pm, and in the evenings from 4:30pm - 6:30pm Saturday there is only a class at 8:00am. - First class is FREE! - There is a restroom where you can clean yourself in case you have something to do after workout. - They have a small shop with CrossFit wearing and some other things. - Often there are offers/discounts for subscriptions (anual and monthly).. ask! - Don't spect a super fancy facility. Remember that this is CrossFit place... but the equipment is in good conditions, and there's enough for the people in classes, they have a spacious room, so people can grab equipment and do whatever they have to. He told me they are not doing drop-ins. I offered to purchase a week. They told me NO. Another girl that was finishing her WOD piped in that she was a co-owner and they don't want drop-ins. "We just aren't doing them" I waited for my sister to arrive for the 6am class (she is a member) and told her sorry I can't work out with you. She was baffled. I emailed the owner on the website. He told me many CrossFits affiliates are not doing drop-ins "because it disrupts the classes". What I took from this is... I'm not welcome as an outsider traveling home to visit. I looked for the next closest box and found Geaux CrossFit. Geaux CrossFit was welcoming, gave me a free first class. And then I purchased a $150 punch card for sessions in the future. CrossFit BR does not want your money, nor do they want to be nice to people traveling. Save you money and go elsewhere. Also, they are a garage box. Geaux CrossFit is inside air conditioned with top notch equipment and a open gym area to work out in if you want to do you own thing. My advice. Dont Geaux near CrossFit BR. Red Stick happened to be close to the hotel I was staying at for a recent business trip. I took a…read morecab there to attend a morning class. Side note: I had no concept of humidity and the effects of such on the human body, so that was an environmental shock. I walked in and was immediately greeted by athletes waiting to join the class I wanted to drop in on and watched the prior class kick booty. My schedule had changed last minute so I didn't get a proper chance to alert the coaches to my drop in request. Just an email late the night before. I hoped to join, seeing as how my pre booked cab was coming to get me in about an hour anyway. Coach Lauren let me into the class after a waiver sign and we got started. Not but 2 minutes into the warmup my tank top was clinging to my skin like snot to a kids nose. I was drenched in sweat. Why is the south so sweaty hot?! Clearly a California girl, the rest of the class were maybe mildly glistening, if that at all. I loved the workout and everyone was super nice. I had a great partner for the workout and honestly, it's women like Allie are the reason I love CrossFit and the community. Strong, beautiful, amazingly nice and just inspiring. She and other strong women there are the future to turning the saying "like a girl" into something totally different. The facilities were great! Nice high rope climb suitable ceilings, a whole separate room full of platforms just for lifting (*drool*), great people, awesome vibe, nice little athlete chillout area with couch, clean bathrooms, organized and intelligent programming! The address does make it seem like they are off the main street but they are in the back of the building. I had a great time, and I'm kind of hoping to go back and workout with Red Stick athletes again. When is it not humid?
