We chose Houle L & M because Chris had experience, knowledge of plants, passion for what he does, and genuine enthusiasm for our project. Other landscapers just didn't seem as excited about what they were doing. We completely updated our front and backyard, including removing several trees and plants, installing two patios, and adding two large veggie beds and all new plants. We are thrilled with the outcome and are confident it would not have come out as well had we chosen another landscape company. Chris is very knowledgeable about plants and was very willing and enthusiastic to help us realize our vision. There were times when we felt overwhelmed with all the decisions. Chris walked us through options and was so helpful in reassuring during the decision process. No idea why everybody gave them 5 stars. These guys come to my community every week and they do the sloppiest job I have ever seen. Leaves still left in the yard, they prune the flowers down to the bone and leave nothing for us to enjoy because they do not want to take care of it, and the men give our neighbors attitude when asked to please come back and pick up what they left behind. No way they have to be here 5-6 hours a week when all they do is start a fire and have barbecues at the cul- de- sac. Like you're on the job, come on!!!!! read more

My landscape designer recommended Chris Houle from Houle Landscape & Maintenance among others as good prospects for a landscape contractor. I contact Chris and two other landscape contractors, and each gave me a bid. As I recall the bid Chris gave me was in the middle of the pack. After talking with him and the others and looking at their reviews, I decided to go with Chris Houle, and I am EXTREMELY glad I did! Chris and his crew were professional and easy to work with. They always showed up when they said they would and did not mind if I changed the plans a bit as the project moved along. Chris used high quality materials which added a bit to the cost, but they were well worth using. Chris touched base with me every so often making sure that the project was heading in the direct that I wanted it to. Chris was always available to me for further input, and he even helped me pick out some of the large flowerpots for the back yard by meeting me at a local landscaping supply company! After the project was complete Chris kept in touch with me offering suggestions on how to keep my yard beautiful after the job was complete. With the water restrictions we're facing I had a serious and urgent issue with 5 of the sprinkler manifolds malfunctioning forcing me to turn off the mainline valve off and forcing all of my landscape to suffer during a very hot and dry period. Chris and team maintained our property for a couple of years before we relocated out of state and they did a fantastic job. They were exceptionally reliable, showing up at the same time each week. They also were very careful to keep gates closed so our dogs would not get out. Chris and team maintained our property in excellent condition. These guys don't butcher the landscaping with hedge clippers, but rather, they take the time to meticulously prune and dead-head the landscaping so that it has a clean, natural look to it. They take care of sprinkler adjustments, lawn fertilizing, etc. When something extra was needed, I only had to email or call and they would take care of it right away. My only complaint is that we could not take them with us to maintain our new property now that we have moved. read more

I was amazed by the quality of the work that Chris and his team did. I have worked with lots of contractors on home improvement projects, and Houle Landscaping and Maintenance are by far the most professional. They show up on time, communicate any changes (such as a different time for plant deliveries) ahead of time, and are always easy to reach and communicate with. I had most of my yard (except the patio and trees) taken out because the yard had a bunch of bare spaces after plants died during the drought, and overgrown, half dead, juniper shrubs in much of the rest. The backyard was divided in half by an old, broken water feature. Chris and his guys took out all of it, even the huge water feature, and made it look easy. This was all without damage to the existing patio or trees, even when these were right near what was being removed. They easily worked alongside an electrician I had come out for outdoor electrical work, as well as following with excellent detail a landscaping plan that I had a designer draw up. Despite changes during the project, Chris and his guys were always professional and courteous. In all my experience interacting with people I've hired to do major projects in and around my house (gutter repair, painting, floors, arborists, electrical, plumbing, you name it) I have never had any person or any company be as polite or as thorough as Houle L & M, Inc. It is a level of professionalism that I didn't know existed before. I am used to checking and double-checking every single detail, and realized that with this company that I often didn't have to. Things just got done right. Now I have a much more usable patio, beautiful new plants, an excellent drip irrigation system, a great looking dry creek bed, a wonderful arbor and more. Best yet, they did a good job integrating the new stuff with the patio and trees that were already there. It looks great, and sometimes I still can't believe it's my yard. The result was better than I ever expected, and the process of working with Chris and his company was easy and enjoyable. Very impressed with owner Chris Houle, and his team. We had an urgent problem with our irrigation system feeding our backyard and small orchard. In spite of having some staff on vacation, Chris and his team went over and above to rectify the problem, which turned out to be VERY labor-intensive, due to some confined areas they had to work in.
