At the recommendation of our realtor Michele Winslow, we ended up hiring Mark to perform our home inspection. As first time buyers who were looking to avoid any big bad surprises this was a necessity and well worth the money. Our place ended up doing quite well in the inspection and the piece of mind has been worth it. Mark doesn't just walk through and take a quick look and check a few boxes. Mark takes hundreds of photos of every little detail and writes up a large report with all the details including recommended actions and maintenance routines. He is great to work with and his walk through was very enlightening and really showed his care and attention to detail. After receiving the report we needed a refresher on a couple of the items discussed and he was quick to return my phone call and get us the answers. We've been in our new home a few weeks now and haven't found any surprises and I'd be quite surprised if we did. read more

I have worked with Mark of House Sound Home Inspections twice over the past 2 years and I can honestly say that he and his wife Gerrie are a fantastic team and provide top notch service. Most recently Mark inspected a home we purchased in Pemberton and the inspection happened to be scheduled during the worst snow storm of the year. Not only did Mark keep the appointment but he also waited 2 hours at a road closure between Whistler and Pemberton, drove through ice and snow, and then did an absolutely fantastic and thorough job with the inspection and report thereafter. Mark's jolly personality, experienced eye for even the smallest details in any property, and his professionalism, all make House Sound a company with which I will work again and again, and that I would recommend to anyone with a home to inspect. As a bonus, they also gave me a discount because I am a returning client! Completely unexpected and very much appreciated! It was obvious that Mark truly loves his job and he and Gerrie value their clients greatly. Besides home inspections, Mark Goodwin of House Sound Home Inspections has been involved in depreciation reports and building envelop surveys. He was also part of a team working on two Federal Government contracts, assessing First Nations properties in the BC Lower Mainland and Northern BC.

Meet the Business Owner: Mark G.

I qualified as a Licensed Home Inspector via The Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors B.C. (CAHPI). My technical courses were backed up with building experience with two local construction firms here in Squamish. Having purchased property here in B.C., I am acutely aware of the risks that purchasing a home can entail. To minimize these, I thought it best to qualify and use my transferable skills to help others home purchasers to come to an informed decision. The Sea to Sky Corridor is a beautiful place to live with a friendly and vibrant community but has a unique climate. Homes have to be constructed to be able to deal with these weather conditions. I enjoy ensuring that they do. In my spare time, I work as a volunteer on the Board of Directors of the Sea to Sky Community Services Society.

Our experience with this company started at about 3 out of 5 stars and quickly became a 0 out of 5…read moreexperience. There were several issues but the biggest and most disappointing was when we specifically pointed out (in writing and verbally) that there are water stains on the ceiling on the 2nd floor, directly beneath the room where the AC/laundry is located. Little did we know, on move in day we would discover a serious leak, where water was actually dripping down into the 2nd floor (see photos). It was exactly where the water stain was that we pointed out. It was a hot day in August and the AC was leaking into the floor below. It's a surprise no new homeowner wants to discover. During the inspection, the verbal advise from the inspector was that there is no evidence of an existing leak, but we could negotiate with sellers to cover costs of paint to cover the look of the ceiling. In writing, these are the exact words "maintain contingency funds for repair/repainting to maintain appearance". At first there appeared to be some attempt to provide follow-up. Even coming to our house afterwards to chat about random things the inspector saw around the house. Unfortunately it's a little too late as the problem was these issues were not discovered before purchasing the house...during the initial inspection! There was no easy way for us to now go back to the sellers and negotiate they cover the costs or even decide to not buy the house. It was now ours and we were stuck with it. We understand that not everything can be thoroughly inspected during an inspection but the leak was something we were especially concerned about and specifically pointed out to them multiple times. This company either a) did not take our biggest concern into consideration enough to take a closer look, or b) they were not skilled enough to discover the cause of the leak during inspection. We paid an AC Technician to fix the leak. It ended up not being very expensive but it still left us being unconfident with our inspection that we already paid a lot of money for. On top of the leak, there were other issues that I won't go into details on. However, it includes major appliances not working, smell of gas coming from the basement, etc. After a few attempts at correspondence, this company has now completely ghosted us. At first they apologized for the delay in response due to being off during Labour Day. We have now not heard back from them since Sept 5th. It's too late for us as we placed our faith in the inspection done by this company and are stuck with this house. However, we wanted to share our experience so others won't experience the same.

When the bed bug bites and panic first set in, we were going to hire an exterminator right away. Thankfully we didn't, because it would have cost us a fortune (not to mention trouble with the strata council). We hired Bed Bug Mutts, and to our huge relief, turned out there weren't any bugs. It cost us less than $200 and we were now much more educated about bed bugs, how to prevent them, and how to detect them. They were extremely professional and answered all of our questions. They explained the training that both they and the dog went through. Dog was very well-behaved and did not make any mess in our pet-free home. I would recommend anyone to call Bed Bug Mutts to get an unbiased inspection if there is a bed bug scare, instead of calling an exterminator.

The quote from Penfolds was on the higher side of the average, but we went with them because the quote was detailed and they were realistic about the unknowns (especially the carpentry work, since most of the issues were covered up and couldn't be assessed until the roof came off). The carpentry team was very thorough, communicative, and ended up getting the work done for far less than they originally told me it would cost. The roofing team was also excellent - polite and tidy, with good attention to detail. Everything was done on or ahead of schedule, and ended up being completed for *less* than the quoted price. Absolutely a 10/10 job!

We were gratefully referred to House Sound Home Inspections as newcomers to buying a home and also moving to Squamish. We were very green and Mark did a thorough job and also did a great job explaining to us anything he found. I instantly felt trust with him which is what you want when making a major life decision. He did not rush, he explained himself very well, he took many photos and prepared an easy to read and understand document for us to review after. He also was very kind in telling us if we found any issues down the road he was a phone call away and happy to share any of the photos should we need them. We had the pleasure of having Mark be our home inspector last week in Squamish. One thing I can say is that Mark is THOROUGH!! He went above and beyond with a detailed report (including pictures) for my husband to read. I might also mention the 45 minutes he spent showing me around the house, pointing out all the things that were good as well as things that need attention. He took the time to explain things to me since I am completely clueless about construction and building safety!! Mark was vary professional and punctual. Although the inspection took a longer than our realtors expected Mark made sure we still had a thorough and complete inspection of the property. The inspection was complete in the afternoon, I woke up to full the 54 page inspection report in my inbox first thing the next morning. The report was very easy to read and navigate, just a matter of clicking through the different areas of the house. Mark did our house inspection on the recommendation of our realtor. Mark was VERY thorough. He took about 300 pictures, and spent more than an hour going around the house (inside and out) with us, and going through all of the pictures and explaining everything he was going to put in the report. He was able to fully answer all of our questions. He really seemed to love his job. He was very knowledgable, and provided all the information we wanted, and then a lot more. read more
