Not overly known but those that do know, def take advantage! Houston Area Live Steamers is such a unique place and grateful to have one in the area. If you have children, or you love trains and just want to kill time once a month on a Saturday, this is the place to go. The huge awning helps with the line waiting and the workers are polite and helpful. They are volunteering their time and efforts for many families, can't hate on that! They do take donations to keep this place afloat but entry is free! A great unique place to go, especially if you or your child loves trains! Will be back! read more

So the key is get there early. They start at one and we got there at 1240 and waited 40 minutes to ride but only because the drivers were fast. Talk is that average wait time is an hour. That time is killer if you have a toddler who missed nap time. Strollers aren't allowed inside the lines once you get in. Bring snacks for your kids or whatever else keeps them entertained. It maybe have just been my child like this but nonetheless it was rough. Now the ride was amazing. It went all around and through the forest which they had decorated for Halloween. We love coming here. Lots of fun, staff / enthusiasts are friendly, and the rides are free! Plan your day! They don't open to the public every weekend or season. Check out their website for schedule before making the drive out there. The train ride is about 1 mile and runs for about 20 minutes. You sit on little bench seats that are pulled by a little engine - sometimes it's a real steam engine, whereas other times it's a gasoline/diesel (not sure which) engine. Focus is on safety, which I really appreciate. There is a driver that sits at the front and a person that sits at the very back to oversee the riders. We always felt safe and knew we were in good hands. They sell snacks, refreshments, toys, and other merchandise. We usually like to buy something or donate to help keep operations going. Very very cool "steam trains" that are miniature models that you can actually saddle and ride! They run free public ride days (check online) where you can line up and ride for free! They sell merchandise and take donations if you want to help keep the hobby going! I thought it was pretty cool to ride these model steam trains that run on real tracks with actually switches and all. Multiple trains run at the same time to decrease the wait time - though we didn't have much of a wait when we got there. The ride is actually a pretty decent length, taking about 10ish minutes to complete. The train runs a decent speed and you have to saddle the carts and hold on - so probably not recommended for anyone who can't sit still for that timeframe without squirming off. Be careful of hats and loose fly aways - they have to stop the whole train to retrieve it! They have a large parking lot and the staff are really friendly . This is such a great place to take your kids who love all things trains! Located in Zube Park in Hockley, the Houston Area Live Steamers take up a good chunk of the park and are still expanding their tracks. They have miniature diesel or freight trains with custom train cars that parents and kids are free to ride. They are open on select Saturdays and Sundays from 9am-1pm- check website or their Facebook page). They had their first 2023 public run this past Saturday and will run until November. We took our entire family to celebrate my son's seventh birthday, and they had an absolute blast! This whole operation is well run. The trains are mainly battery powered or gas powered, and there were a BNSF diesel train, Cypress Creek Express, and a CN train all making the rounds. The ride is approximately a mile long and takes about 12-15 minutes. You pass by an elevated track of model railroads, several train sheds, building facades, a gravel yard, and even a bone yard. I was really encouraged by the commitment these volunteers make to open these trains to the public. One of the volunteers we talked to said that she volunteers for Live Steamers because her son was the only one in their family who had a passion for it, and they wanted to support him. He was one of the young men driving the trains. Another one of the drivers said that he got into it at a later age, but now he owns the diesel and train car that we were riding in, and it was really great to see his joy in it. The third Saturday of every month (except winter months) this club is open to the public for FREE and allows everyone can get on these miniature scale train. Donations are welcome, but lines are short and the track is fun. These club members maintain the tracks, trains and all that goes into it is obviously a lot. Nonetheless riding on these trains is a lot of fun and pretty cool for every person of every age. We loved it! After riding the train a couple of times, we headed on over to the Oil Ranch- it was the last day of the season there. The Oil Ranch won't open up until the Fall for its Pumpkin Patch. Next time we go we plan on going to a nearby Adventure Park or Miniature Golf park. Totally go!!! It's worth it. read more
