Highlights -- * Baker Tower: Centrally located on Dartmouth College's campus, the tower offers the best views of Hanover, New Hampshire. * Borrow Direct: Access to the library collections at Brown, Columbia, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton & Yale. (Why isn't Harvard included?) * Current Periodicals Room: Over 1,000 current issues of science, social science, humanities, & general interest journals. * Evans Map Room: No excuses for bare walls!! * Jones Media Center: My source of entertainment between partying... I mean, studying. Boasts over 5,000 videotapes and 1,000 DVDs. * Book Arts Workshop: The outlet for my creative juices between partying... I mean, studying. * The Tower Room: Dim lights, dark wood & leather seats - Study in classic New England elegance. (Between partying.) * Novak Cafe: Where to grab a quick bite. (On my way to partying.) I want to give Baker Berry 10 stars, but the blitz terminals aren't sanitized frequently enough (at all??) & operating hours should extend to midnight at least. How many times did I try to return my Animal House & Sports Night DVDs en route to frat row, only to be denied?! ...I mean, where am I supposed to study at 11:30 on a Friday night?? Maybe I need a copy of Heidegger's Kant and the Problem of Metaphysics & maybe I need it at a half past 11!

My friend goes to Dartmouth and gave me a tour of this main building on Campus. I was not expecting the building to be very different inside. There are multiple study area: a traditional dark oak room with chandeliers, a more modern and open study area with lots of light, and a basement area with a large mural. They also have a side room that's in memory of Dr. Seuss, who was an alumni at Dartmouth.

Only down side we asked for gloves to view the book and the staff said it wasn't necessary. That bothered me because even if the book meant nothing to them it does mean a lot to many people and it should be preserved if they're going to bother having a first edition in the special collection. Beautiful campus and a delightful afternoon spent otherwise on our way back to boston.

Even without an event, it is such a fun place to just wander around. There is a community board, lots of unique seating areas, and a whimsical children's section that was especially cute. They even had tote bags for sale if you want a souvenir. The whole space spans three levels, with community artwork on display throughout. Just a really special place to spend some time. I'm so glad that such a beautiful building is so well preserved and cared for.

We looked at many places, first in Maine, then in NH. I was reluctant to move, and agreed to it only if we could find a town with both a bowling alley and a great library! My husband just wanted a lot of land and no traffic. On our first visit to the area we checked out the library. I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful space, the stained glass windows, the hand-carved bears coat rack, the huge fireplace, and the cozy reading nooks. The head librarian, Rita Morgan, was friendly and knowledgeable, and made us feel very welcome. What cinched the deal for me was the majestic grandfather clock that chimed and bonged every hour. After 41 years here, the bowling alley is long gone, and Rita Morgan, sadly, passed on many years ago, but her successors have kept the homey feeling of the space while moving it slowly into the 21st century. While I have never gotten used to the harsh winters and buggy springs, I am happy to say I still love the library!!
