That's why it surprises me that I can actually speak with authority on a good five or six hair salons on the lower north shore. The number it took before I found a place I was comfortable with. Whilst I love a good hair cut and colour, I resent the time it takes. I don't want to be pampered and preened for hours on end, nor to feel the stylist is watching the clock and anxious to get onto the next customer. Yazbek hits the perfect midpoint for me. Each appointment begins with their 'signature ritual' - inhalation of a minty aromatherapy oil followed by a two or three minute head and shoulder massage. I actually think this should be a pre-everything ritual. It is calming and takes the pace down a notch or two before your treatment. That's the extent of the palaver though - once you're into the colour and cut, it's quick and efficient. I've been at salons that deliver cappuccinos and cookies - even glasses of champagne - but I'd really rather be beautified and get on my way. At least, that's the hope.

I was so impressed that my hair was still smelling like flowers and the blow dry that made my hair really straight lasted 3 days. Highly recommended. My parents had spoken of them so highly I wanted to acknowledge their praise and made an appointment to experience Forestville Hairdressing for myself. Forestville Hairdressing is inconspicous up a flight of stairs above Michel's Pattiserie to the second level. When I arrived I was immediately taken with their warm hospitality. David was assigned to wash my hair which in all was a very thorough job with a wonderful head massage to complete it. Shown to my seat I was given magazines and then asked for my brief. As I was there for just a style it was a short explanation and then within 40 minutes there I was all done with a do that exceeded my expecations. The price was even better. Each stylist was very busy with a regular flow of customers that they all knew by first name. This kind of service is rare these days and Im pleased I was able to see for myself what the locals fuss about. Should you be a local resident of Forestville and have not heard of this Salon then I highly recommend their services. No need for Tony and Guy and fancy multiple services and high prices. David and Mary have the no nonsense good old fashioned service that is every bit a pampering than just getting your hair done.
