It was my first time eating here although I've past by it so many times so I went with the spaghetti and meatsauce which came with a 6 or less in garlic bread and a separate parmesan cheese container. It was good but the sauce felt watered down there was taste but it can't compared to authentic italian restaurants. Overall I would come here and eat every now and then. read more

I initially liked Hubs when I tried the suburban location. While this location looks nicer I had some major issues with this place. First, I ordered a gyros plate and 2 cups of chili. When I got home... there was no chili. Easy to fix. I went all the way back and the lady opened my bag.. proceeded to touch the pita bread with her unclean hands! Gross!. I was so shocked I just threw out the pita when I got home. For the inconvenience of returning I was given free fries.. that were luke warm. Oh and the pita bread and cold fries were given to me by the manager. God knows what the employees do if the manager doesn't even use gloves with the food. When you heading back home and you're craving something savory, I stop by Hubs for their Pita plate, which is a heaping amount of spicy lamb with some onions and tomatoes on the side. Good carry out place, although they do have booths to sit down. A fav of mine for gyros, the pita is toasted just right and the sauce isn't too creamy or watery. And in case you didn't know this place was featured in a SNL skit, there are murals all around the restaurant to inform you. If you eat a lot at Hub's, you're gonna be a chub....seriously, the serving of fries was the biggest I've seen in a while. They were a meal on their own. Huh, I wonder why Americans are fat? But I have to say they came out hot and crispy. The best thing we ate here was the gyro, which also was very large. It was a random crowd--elderly couples, families, hipsters, yuppies. It could take a while for you to get your food here unlike other similar type of restaurant. The staffs seem to be nice enough. One word...RIBS! If you like Ribs, I'd be lying if I said this wasn't one of the best places for it. They're even better than the Ribs at Calo's. If I sound obsessed, it's because I am. The Gyros and the Chicken Kabobs are also yummy. The fact that this place is open until midnight is also helpful. You do have to wait a little longer for your food than most fast food joints. I'd say an extra five minutes. When I go it just begs you to try something different and I do.....but, most of the time I have the Gyro Plate with extra meat and a large coke! A combination of sit down and fast food restaurant, you can grab something to go or indulge yourself and let your food digest. I was first introduced to their ribs, but later moved on to gyros, burgers, and sandwiches. All in all, not bad. The price is right and the food is good, although I think their sides are overpriced. But that's just me. I'm overdue for a slab of their ribs. They are open late, but unless I am doing carry-out, at that time of the night I'd rather be in Chinatown, a 24 hour diner, or a bar. But if you are looking for something American that rates higher than the MCD/BK standard, but not in the mood for breakfast food, you can't go wrong. Pros: Wide menu variety, something for everyone. Can dine in or take out, late hours. Prices are reasonable and this attracts families and older, neighborhood types. Local link to SNL. I was excited to try this place when we moved nearby as it looked like a cute neighborhood joint, but have been disappointed twice and won't be back. I've had the most basic items one can order on each occasion: once was a burger and fries and the other time it was a hotdog. I wish I could say that either was even average. My husband just went to pick up food from here after I've been bragging about how delicious it is for years. That's why I gave a three star rating. I was really upset to hear he ordered on grub hub and they charged 2 dollars more per item because he used grub hub.. Then to make matters worse they didn't start cooking until he picked it up. I'm sorry but what the point of using grub hub and getting charged extra if the food isn't ready. The thing I found most disturbing though is that it's the middle of a global pandemic and he told me half of the employees and a handful of customers weren't wearing a face mask. I'm sorry but that is just not okay.. upper management should be checking in and requiring all employees and customers in the building to be wearing a mask. EAT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK! (UNFRIENDLY!!) Monday my mom asked me and my girlfriend to pick up dinner on our way home from work. Regular thing, she orders online or by phone gives me the the time frame and I go pick it up. Simple. She tells me 15mins. Ok no problem. Pack the girlfriend up and we're on the road. We arrive at Hubs and I tell my girlfriend to stay in the car "it'll be real quick I say" JINXED MYSELF BIG TIME!! I walk into Hubs and there's a older woman with blonde hair and glasses at the counter. I smile at her and oddly I didn't get one in return. Strange I thought, oh well I proceed to tell her I am here for a pick up and give her my mothers name. What?! "My mother's name" what?! "Pick up for my mother's name and I tell her what's on the order" She picks up the receipt and stares at it for 30seconds before asking me again why I was there. I told her my mom placed an order online and I was there to pick it up "my mother's name and the order I repeated again" the woman then points her finger in my face and says "Where did she place the order?" Confused I said "I'm not sure" she then goes "how can you not be sure? You work for grub hub?!" So she walks away because at this point she thinks I'm trying to "sTeAl ThE FoOd" so this younger woman walks over and tells me she needs to see Id of the person name who ordered to confirm before releasing. ID?!?! I'm telling her the name of my mother and the order how???!! But whatever I understand....I guess Ask my mom for her Id she sends it. Show the younger woman because the older woman isn't talking to me at this point. She laughs at me and says no I need the grub hub receipt. What?!!! Clearly you said ID!! She then proceeds to tell me oh I meant grub hub receipt. (Just FYI I'm not a psychic) those are two different things but ok so once again I step back and request for my mom to send the new info needed for the food. As I'm waiting a man walks in. Give the lady his name she reads off his order to him and gives him a big smile and he's out within 60 seconds. I'm standing there SHOCKED. Why am I asked for all this information which I'm willingly giving these women? The man didn't even have to tell her his order ONLY HIS NAME. My mom called the place and let them have it. Trust me this isn't the first time I've been treated unfairly for my image. At this point she finally hands over my food which has now been sitting 20mins on the counter less then 3ft from me. I wasn't leaving without telling both of them how disappointed and disgusted I was by having to deal with this type of treatment. Neither one were friendly and neither one made me feel like they were protecting my families food. They were rude and unkind and at the end of it all tried to make me seem like I was wrong for not just following what they "asked of me." Solid choice for a greasy spoon. I always have the sirloin steak dinner with a salad and potato. It's filling tasty and reasonably priced. I've been coming here for years and I've also had the skirt steak sandwich on garlic bread a good choice as well. I used to order eat here for lunch all the time back in my teenage days and tried almost everything on their menu. My favorite items are the shish-ka-bob plate and gyros plate. Servings are large and the food is fresh. They changed the fries a while back and now they have that nasty crispy coating like Burger King does and I really hate that. Hub's has been around for a long time and I've eaten at their other location on Dempster as well as their sister location on Milwaukee called Goodi's. All the same food and layout. I can't say there is anything really special about the place except that just seeing their yellow signs gives me nostalgia. If you're looking for some decent fatty food then check it out. read more

Not a health food restaurant, that's for sure. But for a fast fill up (and I mean my gyro was done in about 3 minutes), Hubs was great. I got the gyro platter and there was a generous helping of meat, onions, sauce and piping hot and tasty fries. One downer is that there was only one pita and I could have used two. Meat was nice and juicy and freshly carved. A bit pricey @ 9.75 for the platter, but I'd rather pay a bit more and be happy with the quality, which I was. Lots on the menu and some may not be so great , but can give you a thumbs up on the gyros. read more

mmmmmm Hubs... how I love Hubs! One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood to grab something fairly quick that doesn't taste like fast food (I HATE fast food). Hubs has pretty extensive menu, so everyone is sure to find something. The most popular items seem to be the chicken sandwiches, gyros. and ribs. But the burgers and other items on the menu are really great as well. You can take out or dine in. They redecorated last year with all of the popular SNL sketches inspired by this spot. If you call ahead, they always have everything ready in about 10 min. There is also a large parking lot connected. Also, there is a place called Bubs near Irving and Central. Same decor, but NEVER to be confused with Hubs... as Bubs is crap. read more

But here's the kicker: On the lit-up menu over the counter, side dishes such as "zucchini" and "mushrooms" were advertised. I assumed that this meant "deep-fried frozen", but for some ungodly reason we decided to ask the young lady at the counter. "Is the zucchini fried or just plain?" "Just. Plain." After going here all the time as kid, I stopped in again recently for a gyros sammich and some fries. It's the same as it always was, even down to the surly Greek broads taking orders. Their skirt steak sandwiches are awesome (served on garlic bread!), the gyros is decent, nice thick fries, and this sounds weird, but the pickles are DELICIOUS. If Hub's qualifies as a diner, it is the nicest, cleanest diner I have ever been to. However, I think it's technically a family-run family restaurant. I came here with my mom because 1) she was craving a gyro and 2) I really wanted a burger. In sum, we were nonplussed. My burger didn't blow my mind because I wanted something greasy, which means that if you don't want something greasy, come here. The gyro meat though seemed a bit tough. I would suggest coming here if you are with a group or family of picky eaters, because the menu offering is huge. There are Italian, American and Mediterranean fare (i.e. baba ghanoush). Hub's also offers a variety of desserts. There's an outdoor patio and free, private parking lot. I won't be back but this place truly is, A-OK if you're aiming to be fed at a reasonable price. I was in the shop across the street getting some tires and I got hungry. At first I hesitate then I'made this mistake,. and boy it was. This was my last resort on fast food since I heard horrendous stories about this place . Guess what ... It was True! First was... ladies with long faces at the counter taking your order, I play safe and order myself a gyro and chili chesee fries . It was cold nasty tasteless food. My advice is ...Run from this place folks and never turn around ever. My gyro was COLD the chilifries were bad .,the chili was ground beef with tomato sauce literally...if you messed up a gyro and fries i dont want to find out about the rest of the menu.. Ewww ...go to 7/11 and get yourself a sandwich forreal ...sorry but I would never ever come back . It would take the apocalypse for me to come to this place. This review is way over due. I started eating here when I was a little kid and my dad would bring us Hub's for dinner! This place is awesome!! I've really only tried their ribs and fries but they're just so delicious, I'm nervous to try anything else lol. Eating there, their customer service is great. First impression of this place was that it was pretty divey looking. However, the smell of marinated and greasy meat was inviting and, after being excessively indecisive, I was very pleased with my pork shiskabob plate. HUGE portion with nice, hot fries that were well seasoned. The pork was a tad chewy but really good. For the price, the value is unbelievable. Even though i loved mine, I liked my boyfriend's chicken gyros plate better (but then again I'm more of a chicken girl anyway). The pita bread was soft and fluffy and his meat was awesome. Very disappointed. I placed a phone order and when I got home it was totally messed up. Simple plain hot dog came with Everything. Chicken Kabob sandwich, became chicken breast sandwich. My daughter is 4 and very picky. I rushed back without the food because it's inedible now. The manager stated "what do u want me to do?" Did u bring the food back? I told her no! I didn't care to be charged again. She was more aliment about "I have to charge you. Of course I didn't care. Didn't apologize, didn't show any compassion, nor did she tell the host who took my order "you screwed up". I miss John (passed owner). Very good man and would of handled this differently. I've been here many times. It's a classic! They have a big selection of dishes. It's hard to narrow down your selection. And it's a little different from a traditional fast food place. After you place your order and pay, you'll need to wait about 5-10 minutes for the dish to be ready. The place is very clean and everyone is so friendly. But so worth the wait!
