First time I went to Huckleberry's was in Sacramento a few years back and couldn't wait for them to move further south. I've been to the one in Anaheim a few times but this was my first time here in San Diego. I really enjoy their decor it's so fun reminds me of being on a set for Huckleberry Finn. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We came in on a Friday and it was quite busy. There was no line but they appeared to be a little understaffed as if they weren't expecting the crowd they had for the day. Food was flavorful but I needed a little more spice so I order some fried jalapeños which I waited for 10 mins to get. The one thing I look forward to are their huckleberry muffins, this is what I enjoy most. Unfortunately, this time I was so disappointed, they were dry and somewhat almost stale. When I asked for some huckleberry jam for my muffins, I was told that they don't give it out they only have it for sale. Our awesome server somehow pulled through and did provide a small amount for us to try.

I stopped by here with friends on a monday morning and we were greeted and taken to a booth right away. We were provided with drinks and menus and we did not wait too long for our food either which was nice. The food was good, the place is clean and the customer service was great. My french toast lacked flavor which is why i'm giving it 4/5 stars but I would come back.

My sister and brother-in-law and my wife and I took our dad to breakfast here this morning. I purposely made reservations because we knew that it would be busy and they honored our reservation on time. Once we were seated, it took an hour and five minutes to get our food. Servis left a lot to be desired. Not only was it slow and disorganized. But the food came out three of the five meals then the fourth came out and we had to ask for the fifth meal because they left us hanging. The muffin for one of the meals we had to ask again for and the toast we had to ask again for. The only thing that was consistent was the coffee. The waiter kept our coffee filled. The two ladies enjoyed their meal once they received them. My brother-in-law enjoyed his meal. He said it was very good. My father-in-law was overwhelmed with all the onions and peppers as there was more of that than there were eggs and potatoes and sausage. I had ordered the half pound ribeye and scrambled eggs. And if that was a half pound ribeye I'm only 102 pounds. I ordered it medium and it came well done. The ambience is a typical breakfast place. I would not recommend this restaurant other than they have good food, but the service leaves a lot to be desired.

We were seated right away and were excited looking at the menu. We started off with a peach iced tea which had peach chunks and a sugar rim which made it extra sweet! We also ordered some beignets, which had various fruit toppings with it - crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside (personally I like mine a little softer and and little smaller) We then shared a strawberry waffle and a BYO omelette with a side of potatoes! Everything was yummy but probably should have had the waffle first to avoid the sogginess from the strawberry topping. Also I little bit too much whipped cream for my taste, but overall will definitely be happy to return!

I came here for lunch and ordered soup and salad. The soup was good but nothing special on the salad. The service could have been better but we waited several minutes for them to get our orders and served our food. It was definitely a busy lunch time, the place was packed and vibrant. The servers were really nice though.

I came here to get brunch/lunch with a few friends. It was about 11 in the morning on a Sunday and the wait wasn't too bad, maybe about 20 minutes. I ordered the California Chicken Sandwich ($16.99). The sandwich was good but nothing too outstanding. The chicken was a bit bland and not that juicy. The fries were pretty good though, there was a good amount of seasoning on those. There was a lot of food on the plate and I was completely stuffed by the time I finished. The servers did take a while to come by, and sometimes when we requested a couple things, they would only bring back one of the items that we asked for, and we ended up having to ask for the other items again. There were a lot of things on the menu, so I'd be open to trying something different. The stuff that my friends got looked good as well so maybe I'll get something from the skillets or an eggs benedict.

Absolutely recommend this place. Great hearty brunch food! We picked up a plate of stacked waffles and chicken aling with Cajun Eggs Benedict. Both were very good. We got the potatos in bayou style, they just toss in some bell pepper and onions in the mix. Lots of great selection. We would love to be back to try the rest.

The service was amazing! I wish they offered decaf coffee. My fiancé Fried chicken and waffles were so delicious. I wish I got that instead. My California Benedict was good. Was not a fan of the fried tomato. Would come back again.

Came here on Valentine's Day and as busy as it was we were seated fairly quick. The food was amazing! I got the banana foster platter and stacked chicken & waffles. Both were pretty big portions and delicious. I also ordered the caramel macchiato hot and loved it. The staff there are friendly and attentive. Plenty of seating and parking.

Huckleberry's is located in the giant shopping complex in Escondido off of Auto Parkway and I always pass by it. I decided to try it out for a late brunch this weekend and overall, I had a good experience! It's a casual Louisiana inspired breakfast and brunch place that has an extensive menu showcasing skillets, burgers, waffles, pancakes, omelettes, and fish entrees. The food portions are very generous which I appreciate! You'll definitely leave full! The food was tasty. Service was friendly and professional. We got seated immediately upon arrival and our food came out within a reasonable time. There's a large, shared parking lot so no issues there. My one criticism would be that the biscuit was a bit dense and the gravy was not warm. Maybe I'll try the huckleberry muffin next time...

Tom's scramble with chicken fried steak
    Traci L.

Visited here for the first time and thought the food was delicious! I had Tom's scramble which was chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs over a biscuit. Also got the potatoes with onions and peppers. The portion was pretty big and I definitely had good amount leftover. Also tried the fried green tomatoes (first time trying!) and thought it was perfectly fried, not too oily, and had a great dipping sauce. The workers greeting us at the front and our waitress were all lovely. However, towards the end of our meal, the worker was cleaning the table while I was still trying to pack my food to go. He cleared our drinks before I was done drinking and just stood there until I finished packing up my food with his huge gray tub just sitting on our table. We had eaten quickly and hadn't even lingered just a little bit. I just don't think he realized how awkward it felt for us.

Huck's Combo with optional side of fruit upgrade, plus unsweet tea
    Earl L.

Huckleberry's in Escondido is a great find for a delightful breakfast, brunch, or lunch meal that satisfies cravings, fills you up, and doesn't consume many ducats from the wallet. I nearly always get the Huck's Combo (pictured) whenever I visit, which includes eggs your way, choice of meat (ham, bacon, or sausage), and a bread choice (1/2-waffle for me). I typically add an optional side of fruit for a nominal up charge (+$3-4 add-on, if memory serves). All of that, with an unsweet tea to drink, goes for about $22, after tax and before tip, as of Sept 2025. A great value indeed! As tasty as the food is here, my favorite server, JULIA, always kicks my experience at Huckleberry's several notches beyond mere satisfaction with her sunny disposition, regular check-ins, and visible dedication towards making sure that her patrons are served outstanding meals promptly. She often remembers the details of her regular customers' orders and checks on plates as they are served to ensure top-notch quality. I keep telling her that I'm going to throw her a curveball one of these visits by changing up my regular order, but why tinker with perfection?! ‍ Food at Huckleberry's is outstanding; the attitude of wait staff (Julia, in particular!) is stellar; and you'll definitely exit here having enjoyed an ample meal delivered by friendly folks. If Yelp allowed for a 6-star review, this place would earn 5 on its own and JULIA would top it with a solid sixth, bringing the overall establishment into rarified air . Visit here regularly at least as much for her service as for the food that gets delivered from the kitchen!

Bananas Foster Platter with a extra side of grilled Andouille sausage
    Loan N.

This place serves up huge portions but the richness was a bit much for me. I had the Bananas Foster French Toast Platter and it was way too sweet and overly buttery. I did enjoyed the grilled Andouille sausage. While the meal was good, it was just too indulgent to finish. Great if you have a major sweet tooth, but I'd prefer something a bit more balance.

    Rare steak- very disappointing

For service they're all very friendly since it's primarily the family owners who serve you. You go up to the front and place your order and they'll bring the food you order to your table, they do close early since this is a breakfast spot first and foremost, so expect to arrive early if you want to eat here. I usually order The Works in a half since a full size sandwich is well over $20, excluding any additions or substitutions you may make. The sandwich does taste really good, but it does come at a steep price. They've grown in popularity over the years, which may have influenced their pricing (by a lot) which in my opinion does outweigh it's value. While I do enjoy my infrequent visits, I can say this location is more of an occasional treat, as opposed to a constant meal to be had often.
