The food and coffee were very good. We placed our order to go as there was no available seating. As we paid a table opened up and we sat down and were subsequently harassed by what seemed to be the owner/manager. We got our coffees quickly, as well as the food. Unfortunately they were unable to get a croissant we ordered with the rest of the food until everyone had finished. The cafe has a nice atmosphere. We would return despite the manager and forgetting to give us our full food order. As a business owner I cannot fathom this managers behavior. read more

Hudson Roastery probably thinks if they don't offer Wi-Fi more people will be able to come and eat and drink and leave quickly, and they are wrong. People who are Wi-Fi users will become your best customers. They come in regularly because they can sit and do a little bit of work there. Despite what you may think they're not going to sit there all day using your Wi-Fi because there are plenty of places to get Wi-Fi in most other cafés. So that's where they're gonna go. Location, ambiance, attention to detail - this place has it all! A welcoming staff greeted us and helped us get situated outside on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We enjoyed a bottle of rosé and a lovely meat/cheese board, and they were both perfect. There was a band playing just around the corner and our vantage point was just right for relaxing and people watching. Looking forward to going back and enjoying the beautiful setting inside! I came here for breakfast yesterday with high hopes. The place is stylishly decorated and reminded me of a cafe in NYC. The coffee was fine but I also ordered the shakshuka ($12) which came in a tiny skillet (maybe about 1/2 cup worth) with one poached egg and four "bread points" which were two slices of challah (I think) pressed super thin and sliced diagonally. The shakshuka was bland and the bread seemed stale. While I was there, a person I assume was the owner showed up with her giant dog. The dog had free rein of the restaurant, even the food prep area behind the counter which I'm pretty sure is a violation of NY health code. I guess Hudson can sustain those prices and tiny portions, but at least make it taste good. read more

The staff and coffee are phenomenal but the owner (woman) is EXTREMELY rude and passive aggressive for no excusable reason. I was absolutely disgusted at how she spoke to me and her staff. I was drinking my coffee (that I paid for) and the owner specifically asked me if I was a local and when I said I was not, she asked me why I was in Hudson. She asked me this in such a way that made me feel like I had no business being there since I wasn't "a local" . She then went on to harass me by repeatedly asking me if I needed anything.-Mind you, there were plenty of empty seats. She then pretty much told me I should leave and said "ya know..because we are really busy." I could hardly believe it!!! I watched as she was very friendly with people who were obviously regulars and yet she was so rude to me! I have looked at other peoples reviews and have found similar stories. Such a shame. I came here on a Sunday morning during my trip to Hudson visiting from NYC and had the best chocolate croissant of my life - freshly made, lightly crispy, perfect amount and distribution of chocolate so had to write a review. Nice coffee shop in the very cool downtown in Hudson. It smelled amazing when we walked in! They don't have many brews so we went with a cold brew. It was just okay - a little too bitter for my taste. The displays were nice in the store and I was very tempted to buy some coffee as they had a lot of flavors - I just wish they had those for purchase along with the regular coffee. Bizarrely awkward experience on 2 occasions with extremely uptight and flustered manager/owner. The whole experience was uncomfortable, on one occasion they forgot my entire pastry order then when i asked for it, told me they were out of everything I ordered as they handed those items to their friend who had just walked in the door. Recently went in to have a meeting over coffee with a colleague at 12:30. We ordered drinks ($15) and were settling in a a table while they were being made when a very flustered, highly intense owner/manager came through the cafe, practically yelling at people who had come in and were ordering that they were closing at 12. We were not made aware that they were closed when we ordered from the counter staff. We would not have stayed had we been given that information. Extremely uncomfortable situation. We had to take our business elsewhere, basically ushered out the door when there drinks were handed to us, and essentially threw away the money we had just spent. read more

But as another poster mentioned there is a bizarre situation here; the owners run this as a club with their friends who walk in getting preferential treatment. It is a freaking coffee shop. The woman Carolyn, is boorish in many ways and persnickety in a very silly kind of way. This is upstate; drop the attitude especially when you don't even have NY license plates. Did you forget the memo on being easygoing Weirdo. I thought it was just me that noticed this different shades of grey behavior to different people, but I think she thinks it is her living room, and not a coffee shop. They need to start paying attention to their paying customers. She is always occupying a table or a seat, drinking not serving, and telling customers what to do and what not to do...but not to her friends. Good luck having your friends pay your way to stardom.
