Disclaimer: This review focuses on a visit centred on the MAC counter in their cosmetics department. My sister and I got together at Yorkdale Mall to have lunch and celebrate my birthday. We thought it would be fun to get a makeover. I like MAC in particular, but their independent store is usually busy, and they no longer list any sort of complimentary service on their website offerings. Turned out that we were having lunch right across The Bay in The Cheesecake Factory, so I thought we could see what their MAC had to offer. Turns out that they do some complimentary makeup services if you ask for a particular element, e.g., cat eye makeup for, foundation application, etc. The staff had to wait until her coworker was back from break so that other customers could be covered, so she took my number and my sister and I wandered off till she contacted me. We were away some time, but it turned out I simply didn't hear my phone ring the 2 times she tried to call as it's pretty noisy throughout the mall. I saw she had tried, and when we headed back, she was good to go. She asked what aspect I'd like to focus on, and I went with skin applications. She explained why she chose what products and colours she went with, but still asked about blush colour in particular. She asked what I normally do and use. She made sure to clean her tools and provide sanitary samples of everything I tried. She did not rush, and asked how satisfied I was periodically as she progressed. I was very happy with the results. I asked about the skin serum in particular. She advised that it was something around $80 a bottle, but that she had one or so last holiday packages for $73 that had it included with cleanser and moisturizer, so I opted to get that. She also added a free, small pot of the foundation she had used, with the name written on the bottom so I'd know what to select if I wanted to get more later. I usually would prefer to go to an actual MAC store, but this experience at The Bay was better than what MAC had to offer. Would definitely go back, especially if the same staff was there. read more

I simply LOVE the Hudson's Bay company. It's Canada's very own department store chain. It focuses mostly on apparel. It's one of my go-to laces for clothing. They have many of the major brand names in fashion. They have a huge selection with lots of inventory. And best of all, their prices are amazing. You can always find amazing sales, and don't be surprised if you end up getting additional savings at the cash register. Did you know that the Hudson's Bay Company is a major part of Canadian history? The company started back in 1670 and was a major player in the fur industry. It became Canada's largest corporation. My experience at the shoe department of The Hudson's bay was phenomenal. I asked a very nice gentleman for some assistance and he was very polite and patient and accommodating. Man, I tried. I really tried but this store is a relic from the distant past. I decided to go for some boxing day deals online, what arrived looked nothing like what I ordered i.e. the pics online. Returned them to Bay Yorkdale, and as hard as I searched for something else, there was nothing. Very blah place IMO. I managed to score some Dim lounge wear which is good for plane travel, etc., but choices of clothing and shoes were dull as dishwater. I have given this place many opportunities, sadly, it never works out for me. read more

One of the best Hudson Bay stores in the GTA. It has numerous departments including kids where some of The Bay stores don't have. They often have great deals, always have music and entertainment, beverages and samples along with some great coffee shop and light snack options. read more

The Bay at Yorkdale has a lot of brands in one place, which makes it easy to find what you are looking for. The problem is, the service at this location varies from excellent to non existent. Some employees are not willing to help and others go above and beyond. Recently, I was buying a pair of jeans as a few employees did not help at all until I found one lady who was more than willing to find me some styles I wanted to try. The last lady who helped me, brought the styles I was looking for into the fitting room so I could try them on. She went above and beyond to find me what I requested in the right size. The ladies working at the Fume Scent lounge are exceptional as well. They explain the whole experience to you and help you select your perfect fragrance. All in all, if you want good service, you have to find the best employees and once you do, you will be happier. read more

Wow, great service in the bedding section! I was looking for a duvet and cover that wouldn't require selling my kidneys on the black market and was having a tough time, despite this being white sale season. The customer rep came up and offered to help, and didn't balk at all when I said I was looking for something inexpensive. She seemed to get where I was coming from and showed me a great duvet and told me the differences between down, synthetics, and why the prices are so different. She recommended a particular brand and I got it, and after night 1, I'm really happy with it. I was also looking for a duvet cover that would be less than $150 after tax and a warm, dark colour. Apparently this doesn't exist at the Bay ($400 for sheets? REALLY?!), but she did search high and low with me including checking stock at the back. I'm very impressed with the service and quality of product that I got. I'll likely be back again next time things are on sale. read more

It's so much better now that the renovation is over. The beauty section on the main floor was crowded on Saturday morning & the shoe area is like a maze. They definitely don't make it easy for you to escape their clutches. LOL. But the women's fashions on the third floor has so many options it's dizzying. I came looking for some officewear which is limited at this location but managed to score some great deals. Went down to the cafe in their concourse & ended up browsing the bedding section where I found more deals. The men's clothing & shoes floor is great as well. I found it strange though that they only had washrooms on two of their floors. On the concourse (far from the cafe) & on the men's floor. Anyway I ended up buying more than anticipated because of the bay day discounts but the prices were really great. This location now reminds me more of what the Queen Street location in its hey day used to be like. A great place to find everything you need with a range of prices from reasonable ($60 Vero Moda blazer) to damned expensive ($600). Lots of options for everyone. Just a note on their website, I wish they had a locate item in store option. I saw some clothes I wanted on the website but they didn't have the same pieces at this location. Hopefully the one on Queen Street has them. read more

I'm becoming a bigger fan of the Bay. This location was under construction when we were here. Based on how the store looked, it's likely to be under construction for quite some time. The housewares and bedding and stuff like that is located on the basement floor (for those looking for that stuff, or trying to register for stuff). Also, they had a pretty cool selection of patio furniture and a wide selection of stuff for the kitchen. I saw some cool barware that I loved. Their cosmetics selection is wide, and the counters seemed to be fully stocked also, and they actually have a really large selection of accessories. What's really interesting, is that if they can have a really full gamut of stuff, with half the store under construction, do they really need all that extra space? I guess a follow up will be needed post-renovation. read more

The Bay has been under constant renovation for a few years now and the Yorkdale store is one of the best reinvention I've seen of the brand. It's large with more than 3 levels to shop and it has a fairly comprehensive inventory ranging from the really affordable $2 socks to the sublime $4000 Stearns and Fosters mattress (that was the most expensive thing I found so far... though I'm sure there is a 3D LED tv somewhere in that store). The most recent changes have been the focus. They've scaled back their furniture and large appliances and zero'd in on mid to slightly higher brands for fashion. I personally think it's great as they've brought a lot of great labels to Canada at price points that very competitive. Coach, Not your mother's jeans, See by Chloe, Top Shop, Denim & Supply by Ralph Lauren, BCBG, Michael Kors... as you can tell, lots of brands! I'm really happy as this updated The Bay to my age group and style that I'm interested in. Though the super high end brands are often excluded from the constant Family & Friends or Bay Card sales, you do see them at severely reduced prices at the end of the season. Back to the store, this particular one competes with Holt Renfrew in the newer areas. It's modern with a touch of luxury and warmth. You'll see it in the finishes of the floor, the lighting, and also decor. It's not completely detached and high end where it alienates most shoppers. The service has been changing *slowly* to reflect the new facade as well. In the newer areas such as Top Shop, Woman's fashion level 2, and the new shoe area, sales associates are plentiful and helpful. They're always willing to grab you another size or offer an alternative. The house ware section is harder to find an associate but when you do, they're quite pleasant as well. I don't get out here too much as the traffic volume to this mall gives me a headache but it's a super convenient location to the 401 and central to most places. I'd love to come here more often to shop but then my wallet would have died months ago! read more

Since the renovation, the Bay, not just the Yorkdale location, but in general has improved in both service and merchandising. I've started to come to the bay to shop for beauty and shoes (mainly) and take advantage of their Bay day deals and HBC points that you wouldn't get else where. The bedding section downstairs is lacking. I was looking for a duvet cover and couldn't find anything less than $300 (even with a discount). But I'm in love with their beauty and shoes/accessories section. They have filled it with lots of major brand names that they did not used to have (including Ahava, not a counter, but they have the products). This location also has a spa room, for certain beauty counters. For Clarins, all you need to do is buy two facial products and you can get a free 30 min facial. During bay days, they have also lots of great gift sets and promotions. The room is great and quiet, and you'll forget you're in the busy mall for just a while. Walking around here, it's crowded and I hope that they will assess the flow between the mall and the beauty section. I"m always bumping into people. There's also a separate TopShop store off to the side. The thing that bugs me about the Bay is how everything is separated into Brands and which everything can be more together by product. read more

On December 27, 2014, we visited the Hudson's Bay at Yorkdale Mall. The purpose of our visit was to exchange a gift and purchase two other products. After explaining our circumstances to the sales associate, we were able to make the exchange for the products we wanted. We appreciate that the sales associate took the time to listen to our needs and find a resolution that was not only acceptable but above and beyond our expectations. The sales associate was extremely professional, understanding, and sympathetic, which resulted in a smooth transaction and two very happy customers. Additionally, I wanted to take a moment to comment on the appearance of the store. To put it simply, the cosmetic department looks spectacular. The design, lighting, and boutiques make the act of shopping at Hudson's Bay a luxurious experience. To top it off, it was exciting to find great deals on products and to find out that Hudson's Bay now offers free WiFi with a cafe in the basement. My mother and I both agree that the sales associate demonstrated excellent customer service and care skills, the overall positive environment of the store and excellent deals made for a wonderful customer experience. read more

Several times I have used the services of The Bay at Yorkdale. In particular, I found the bedding/mattress staff exceptionally helpful, patient, and accommodating. In addition to front staff, I have twice had to contact their Online Support. I was twice shocked with the fast responses, and both times, totally satisfied the information I required - one being a copy of an invoice I had lost. Their return policy is also quite good, which is important to me as well (that extra safety net). I would highly recommend this The Bay. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I ordered a rocket blender for Christmas for my partner and when we opened it up 10 minutes ago, the motor didn't start, upon closer inspection we made the horrifying discovery that the blender had been used before, what looks like some sort of red juice is all along the edge of the motor and in the safety clasps, clearly someone had used the blender before a returned to the store where they have re sold. PLS everyone check anything you buy here they are re selling items returned and used by other buyers. Absolutely disgusted and you should be ashamed of yourselves read more

I give it 3/5 stars because the customer service in the shoe section is probably the worst customer service I received. I was there this morning just browsing for some Toms and came across one that I liked. For 30mins I was trying to find an associate to help me. Once I was able to find someone they took even longer to find the size that I needed. Many people were waiting around to find someone to help them out. Hire more staff in the shoe department cause 2 people aren't going to be able to help 20-30 customers. Overall, I love The Bay. read more

I ordered an item online. Two weeks after I order it, I get an email saying they cannot fulfill my order. I was extremely excited I found the item I order at a good price and was anxiously waiting for the item to arrive so I could proudly and happily wear it! I was devastated to see that the order couldn't get filled, after no contact about the order process in two weeks. Why have the items on sale online when there is a chance that you cannot fill the order. It really upsets a person when they are excited for the item that they ordered and will probably not be able to find again. That is now my last time "shopping" at Hudson's Bay. I called customer service and had zero help of trying to maybe find this item at a different location. read more

I've been a Bay shopper for many years, since it was called The Hudsons Bay Company. I am tremendously disappointed in the renovations of the main floor at Yorkdale store. It's a disaster! Not only is it difficult to find the counter you are looking for, but once in the midst of it all it's impossible to get out. I was told to follow the Exit signs. Well, if you can find them you're lucky. I can't think of what may happen in an emergency. This terrifies me and, therefore, I don't shop there any longer. I spoke to the Customer Service people, who just defend the store design. Good luck to all who shop there!! read more

I have been in here on many occasions and the customer service is a bit hit or miss. Sometimes the reps make an effort to be hopeful and sometimes they can't be bothered. Recently I came in here I politely asked to try out the new Dyson blow dryer on display and was told yes I could try. Then in the middle of my trying it out the salesperson after giving no prior indication basically rudely ripped it out of my hand and said, "We have other customers." I think the other customers who has just walked in and wanted to try felt embarrassed/uncomfortable too. It wasn't necessary to do that the saleslady could have simply communicated in a polite way. And embarrassing customers is certainly not how you encourage them to come back and want to buy. read more

I love The Bay. I always find good deals here and I love the look of the store post-renovations. They're going for a more upscale look and clientele. Out of all the Bay stores I have visited the Yorkdale location is the best with its wide selection of products and overall look. Great job on the renovations. read more
