Interesting this practice doesn't follow up with patient reviews...I've been going to this practice for a long time and generally lukewarm about professionalism and bedside manner but most recent visit was the worst! I had to repeatedly call about biopsy results with nobody returning my call. Eventually 3 weeks later I was told it was a fax issue. Very unprofessional! No apologies given. Substandard care, OCLI needs to do some QI with this practice. read more

The office called informing me that they are canceling my 2 teenagers's appointments with Dr. T because she is no longer seeing patients under 16; even though she has seen them before. They did not offer any explanation, referrals, nor alternatives. Leaving us high and dry. The 5 of us in the family will all be looking for a new Dr. not just my teenagers. read more

I had been a patient of this practice for many years, as well as most of my family was. After several years, I needed to see them for a sudden issue. I suppose it was my last encounter with them forever. I found the entire experience disgusting, the place was filthy, disorganized and the wait was over three hours! The condition now, (wasn't properly treated for) has become critical. There's no excuse for not answering the phone or returning calls! At this time I don't know where to turn, and I'm losing sight in my right eye! So much for dedication! read more

I had been a patient with this practice for over 20 years, but have since gone elsewhere where I am getting far better medical treatment. The doctor at this practice had grown condescending and did not pay attention to my symptoms and concerns. I went to my yearly exam (in November of 2024) and complained of double vision and was told I needed cataract surgery. It was implied that the surgery would relieve the double vision. The subsequent cataract surgery actually made the double vision worse. When I called to relate my continuing issues, a technician told me that my double vision was due to dry eyes only. After a few more missteps with this office and almost a year later, I ended up seeing a neuro-ophthalmologist at a research hospital in NYC and was correctly diagnosed with myopic strabismus fixus and prescribed several pair of highly specialized prism glasses to ameliorate the issue. Why a doctor who had been seeing me for over 20 years and knew my medical history could not correctly diagnose and treat me is incomprehensible. read more

I've been a longstanding patient of Dr. Faris (Dr. Phillips prior) and I have always received excellent care. However, to echo a prior reviewer, since the practice has become part of OCLI, it's impossible to make an appointment. I've called so many times that I have lost count... more than a dozen for sure and I always leave a message. And it does not matter what option you press, you always go to voicemail and your call is never returned. I got s letter that Dr. Faris is leaving so I am trying to make an appointment with another practitioner months and months in advance. I think it is time to look elsewhere. OCLI, if you read these reviews, this location is a failure. read more

Eye exam was very thorough and professional. Glasses turned out to be the most annoying pair I've ever owned. The screw in the hinge must be tightened every day. When it gets loose, the connection is so sloppy I'm afraid the temple is going to break. When I picked them I thought I would like the nice light weight. read more

The technician did a terrible job getting my prescription. I don't have 20/20 in either eye but she marked my left eye as needing no prescription. She never flipped through the different lenses and asked me 1 or 2 to gauge my prescription. She just had me read the eye chart without the lenses in front of me and wrote down my prescription based on what line I was able to read. And when I asked the doctor about it, rather than checking my prescription she just assured me it was correct. Needless to say I will not be filling my glasses prescription with what they gave. Also there was a very long waiting time in the waiting room before I was seen even though there were just a couple other people in the waiting room. And if you go pick up family members after they get their eyes dialated they won't let you sit in the waiting room even though it might be empty. So you need to wait for your family member in the car for an hour in the middle of January. read more

I came into this office with a lot of pain. I was handled roughly, scolded by the technician for not sitting still and not cooperating. I was leaving the office and the manager called my cell phone and asked me to return. I did and she started yelling at me! I thought she was going to apologize for the technicians behavior! The doctor prescribed a medicine that hurt my eyes. When I called back to tell her she yelled at me and told me I should find another doctor! I don't think I have experienced worse treatment at a medical office in my whole life. People did not seem at all interested in listening to my point of view. To be fair the doctor did seem knowledgeable, but she seemed to preoccupied with her own medical problems to be attentive to mine. While I feel sympathetic to her, it does not excuse the poor treatment I received. I had been a patient at this office for 25 years. The doctor who I saw previously would never have tolerated any of these unprofessional behaviors. Unfortunately he retired. This review started out as two star because I think the doctor I saw was competent. However after our phone conversation I would give this practice no stars if I could. read more

All of the staff were excellent from the scheduling person to the assistant who checks your vision. I am from out of state and they saw me right away. Dr. Fleishman was also excellent. He explained my issue thoughtfully and was very nice. I would highly recommend this practice. I am sure that all of the physicians are very good. read more

Very disappointed in this practice. I understand it is short staffed as Dr. Farris stated in my last appointment. I found he did not help my issue at all and like the review below, sent me to a website to order some drops (that did nothing to help my problem). I was also charged 85 for the eye exam months later. When I called for contacts today, I left a message when nobody picked up. A few minutes later I saw that I had a missed call. I called right back without listening to the voice-mail and offered to provide payment for my contacts. Instead, Kevin pointed out that he was on his lunch break and that I should have listened to his voice mail. Why did he pick up then at all, if no other reason than to be rude? Either way, last straw with this place. I always try to be kind and give people the benefit of the doubt, but not for blatantly rude people. I had two cataract surgeries done by Dr. Jean Tostanoski in January. They were excellent experiences. I was very pleased with the level of care I received from Dr. Tostanoski. The surgery itself went extremely well. I was given the information I needed to choose the best kind of surgery. She answered all my questions. I needed to be seen after the surgeries and was fit in that day. I was also very pleased with the surgical coordinator, Sharon. I had a number of discussions with her before the surgeries. She gave me all the time I needed to ask questions. Her input was very valuable. The billing manager, Michelle was also very helpful in answering my questions. I was impressed by all the techs that assisted me. They were all knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. A positive experience in every way. read more

The female eye surgeon, Dr. Tostanoski, was so condescending and all business. She was also inappropriately dressed; her skirt was a bit on the short side. I was going to get cataract surgery but not after my experience. I can't imagine her being in a bad mood during a surgery. In addition, her office is so disorganized and chaotic. I have been coming to this practice at least a decade. For the most part, staff are personable, friendly and accommodating. There was 1 incident where I was dismissed when my retina was detaching! I was told Dr. Phillips wasn't seeing anyone that day, he had no time. I urged and pressed and said I could lose my vision. This was a fairly new staff member, but clearly didn't care or realized how dire the situation was. I asked if anyone else could see me to which she replied there were no openings that day. I had to turn to a different practice. Dr. Phillips was informed of the matter and the issue/staff member was dealt with swiftly. That was an isolated incident. Dr Phillips is phenomenal! He is an excellent diagnostician and knows precisely how to manage or treat problems/deficits. Dr Phillips' personality and demeanor is one of warmth and openness. I saw Dr. Ma once when Dr. Phillips was unavailable. He is earnest-really listens and asks pointed questions. Needless to say I have a constellation of visual issues/problems-im considered 'complex'. I saw Dr Ma this past Friday January 12 with severe eye pain. Not only did he diagnose me and instructed me to go to my neurologist (I was looking for a new one), he went above and beyond, found me a neurologist and even called the Dr. who told me to go to Phelps ER. Dr Levas met me and admitted me. I'm thrilled with the superior care and attention I receive from these exemplary Doctors! read more

They do medical testing that is not covered by insurance and don't tell you until after you are billed. This happened to both my husband and myself. We were surprised with very large medical bills explained by "additional medical testing" that was not asked for. We are no longer going back here. read more

I have been going to Hudson Valley Eye Associates for years and have never had a bad experience. The techs are always pleasant, the doctors are professional, and there is a great optical shop attached as well. Dr. Tostonowski is highly qualified with years of experience. It appears as though some people are more concerned with personality traits than actual ability...bottom line: Dr. Tostonowski doesn't need to be your best friend, she needs to be your eye doctor whose capacity and opinion you value, and for me, that's exactly what she is...I'd trust her with my sight, literally! Dr. Ma, who is a fairly recent addition, is knowledgeable and wise beyond his years. (Also, very easy to talk to for those who appear to be looking for a friend.) read more

Dr. Edmund Farris was my ophthalmologist. I asked him what to do to get rid of a collagen cyst in my eye. It sounded strange when he said it was just a fluid cyst and that he could do it. Made an appointment, he cut open the cyst, told me it was collagen and that he could do nothing. Referred me to another Doctor, but not before charging my insurance and cutting into my eye for no reason. My own regular Doctor had told me it was collagen. Needless to say, I'm not going back there. Shame on you and shame on me for trusting him!!! read more

'I'm not giving you the script for your eyeglasses!" On my first visit to this place I intended to have a eye exam and then return for a dilation. My former Eye Doctor never had a problem with two visits. As I was going to work immediately after the exam, I fully intended to return for the Eye Dilation. However in the meantime I wanted to know how much my eyes changed since my last visit. ....not good enough for Dr. Jean Tostanoski! "I would be doing you a disservice to give you that information without a dilation" My response," As a Patient I have a right to this information" I think the lowest level of deception is when commits a disservice and then attempts to cover it up by saying it was for your benefit. What the Doctor wasn't talking about was my insurance company paying her 400.00 for this procedure. God Forbid a patient asks about fees! So I make a request in writing and 2 weeks later they sent me the Doctor's unreadable notes. Thank you Doc. for letting me know in uncertain terms what kind of business Hudson Eyes Associates is and the level of regard you have for your patients. You don't even deserve one star. read more

Terrible practice. Tostonowski has a cold approach and no bedside manner. Benderson is "friendly" but has unacceptable waiting times for appointments, leaving you sitting for hours while he makes rounds around the office. Office staff is disorganized, often rude, and does not promptly return calls. Worst of all, they have failed to properly fit my kids in contacts over multiple visits based on 2nd opinions. They have lost all of us as patients and it is too bad because they have a convenient location for Westchester residents. Won't be coming back. read more

Top-notch practice! Dr. Phillips has been my eye doctor for virtually my entire life, and he is as good as they come! But yesterday, my glasses broke and Dr. Phillips wasn't in, so they fit me in last-minute to see Dr. Benderson that afternoon for a full eye exam (I was way overdue, anyway). Dr. Benderson is new to the practice, I think. He was enthusiastic, competent, thorough, and had a really friendly manner. I got a new script, got fitted for new contacts, and received a whole exam save for the dilation because I had to drive directly to see clients. They were also able to figure out the billing so that I would not have to put in for two visits even though I'll be back in a few weeks to do the dilation. Also they fit me for new contacts (and a new, disposable brand/style for my astigmatism) which are so far, so very good! Definitely recommend this practice - super accommodating, professional, and just good doctors. read more

After getting a small particle embedded in my eye, I called for an emergency appointment. I was immediately connected to a live person (No lengthy menu prompts or waiting on hold!), who was pleasant, efficient and compassionate. I was able to get an appointment within a few hours with Dr. Matthew Schear, a relatively new doctor in the practice. When I arrived, I was greeted at the desk by another very nice young lady. My wait time was about five minutes before being escorted into the exam room by another very nice young lady who did the intake. Dr. Schear came in after only a few minutes and listened attentively while I explained the issue with my eye. His diagnosis and treatment was immediate, and he couldn't have been nicer. I felt reassured and relieved due to his manner and expertise. My prescription was called in to the pharmacy immediately, and a convenient follow-up appointment was made, completing a very smooth process in about 30 minutes. My entire experience was 5-star and I highly recommend this practice, the wonderful staff, and Dr. Schear. read more

The Doctor was very through and explained everything. The supportive staff could have demonstrated a little more patience with this patient as I had difficulty complying with the directions. I can understand becoming irritated but it was a little too obvious. I saw Dr Benderson and felt that he was excellent. I would go back for the Doctor but would have to try again with supportive staff. I believe that we need to be aware of how attitudes and even understandable irritation is conveyed. read more

I went to Hudson Valley Eye associates for an annual eye exam. My insurance allows for one free eye exam annually. A month later I received a bill for a 162 dollars. When I called to figure out why I had been charged they explained to me Dr. Tostanoski deemed my visit as a specialized visit. They said changing the billing to an annual eye exam would be fraud. I made an appointment for an annual eye exam and at no point during the visit was I told anything differently. This place really points out the injustices of the medical industry. Working with the billing department is taking hours of my time. I am certain they do this with many patients and it is way easier to just pay the bill than to attempt fighting them in court. Do not go to Hudson valley eye associates unless you want to be charged for services you never asked for. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more
