I write this review to inform parents of the importance of being real and teaching your college bound child to have realistic expectations . Lots of prospective college bound students "think" they can go to an Ivy League or other prestigious college . Good for them for being ambitious. But it is also important to be realistic . The money spent on "tutoring" could be better spent on tuition. College is expensive, it shouldn't be, but it is. I believe, having been through this process, and it is a process that can be painful, both psychologically and physically . When you have a bright kid who has done everything right, except be able to afford their dream school, and they get accepted to their dream school, only to find out they can't afford it without going into serious debt, is that healthy? I believe Hughes tutoring feeds this desire and that is wrong. It's great to help a student write a better essay or prepare for the college tests, but to feed a student a line that they can get in to the "best" schools, get scholarships etc...... Is wrong . This would prevents the unable to afford prestigious school dilemma which Sue O. describes. I have personally seen Hughes tutors do free sessions for low-income students. The Hughes sliding scale fees allows students from all walks of life have access to higher education. Hughes has been an invaluable resource to all the students I know who use it and has been the difference between rejection and acceptance for so many. read more
