Stopped by Hugo's because we loved his other restaurant in Florence when we lived there. Restaurant was clean and inviting. We were seated and greeted immediately! Hot chips and spicy salsa were brought fresh to the table. Menu had a lot of variety with a twist. Not your average Mexican menu! I chose the Hawaiian Bowl. Seasoned steak, chicken, shrimp, pineapple and chorizo served over rice and whole beans with pico and cheese sauce. This was amazing!! Couldn't ask for a better meal! Reasonably priced! Service was excellent! This would be our Mexican restaurant of chose if we still lived here, hoping they expand to Birmingham. LOL Stop in for an excellent meal and service, you won't be disappointed! read more

I have rarely given a 5-star review to a Mexican restaurant because almost all of them are indistinguishable from each other. Meat inside a tortilla with some beans and rice, nothing usually stands out. This place does! The inside is beautiful, clean and open. The servers were nice and polite, albeit they didn't speak very good English, but that is okay. The food was outstanding. I got the Cali burrito and the chicken inside was fresh, moist and well seared on a griddle. Everything seemed freshly made and tasty. We plan on coming back again! read more

We love Hugo's, it's near our house and the only Mexican we eat in the area. Restaurant is nice and clean, we are always seated quickly, and the food comes out so fast! It's not even a question, we will continue to frequent this restaurant. read more

We were driving through town and Yelp reviews got us here! So glad they mentioned the details about the map, we almost missed it. We were in a large van so great parking. we were swayed right away, the hostess wasn't the friendliest bc when I asked not to sit by the kitchen/bathroom (total pet peeve) plus we drove outside our way to come there, she acted inconvenienced when my ask for a booth. Beside that, the chips and salsa were good so that was a score. We ended up splitting the fajita quesadilla which was perfect amount. Great taste. Service was spot on and owner/manager sopped by table. It was good if you are in the area go! read more

Visiting family in Florence, AL. My sister wanted to try a place she's passed many times but had not tried yet. Can I give it more than 5 stars???? I don't eat beef hardly ever; however on our waiter Jaqueline's recommendation, I ordered birria tacos. My sister chose chalupas. We added a side of grilled pineapple. She had the strawberry frozen margarita and I had the regular on the rocks. The birria tacos were fantastic!! Filled with delicious beef and when dipped in the sauce, it was like eating French dip po-boy. Absolutely lip-smacking good. My sister's chalupas were big and tasty. She couldn't finish 2. Our food came out so quickly we barely touched the chips and salsa, but what we tasted did not disappoint. The grilled pineapple chunks were a perfect accompaniment - sweet but not cloying. The regular size margaritas were generously sized and under $10! First visit but definitely not the last. read more

Hugo's has a great atmosphere and fresh food. Service was quick even though they were slammed.

Food was excellent and the service was great. The restaurant is very clean and well organized with plenty of staff and quick food delivery to the table. Portions are large. We both brought home boxes of food to eat tomorrow. Prices are about normal for a quality meal. $44 for 2 people plus tip came to $53. read more

I ate lunch at Hugo's Mexican restaurant the first opening day. The food was excellent and hot, I had to speed a Gonzalez with rice. The chips are made in house and are the thick chips not the thin. There was plenty of servers to help and my waitress although new was very cordial, helpful, and checked back frequently to make sure everything was as expected. If you play with a credit card there is a 3.8% increase over the price you would pay with cash. Several restaurants are doing this today. The one thing that was not expected was a $1.75 charge because I asked for a cup with salsa to go. I got it to go order of a chicken taco salad and ask for a bag for my chips and a small bowl for the salsa. It just seemed that $1.75 was a little excessive for a small bit of salsa to go with the chips I'm taking home but since I asked for it without asking if there was a charge I went ahead and paid for it without complaining. Just know that if you ask for salsa to go with your chips it may come with a charge. Then again it may just be that because it's new the server did not know if there was a charger or not. One last comment, there's plenty of space inside Hugo's to set, plenty of booths, plenty of tables in an outdoor patio also with tables to set at if you desire to set outside. I plan to return to Hugo's at a future point and try the fajitas. read more

We've had many things on the menu including nachos, chimichangas, enchiladas, flautas, and cheese dip and all of it has been fantastic. The birria tacos are absolutely amazing! I swear I could eat here every day! So glad Hugo's opened in our neighborhood so we can enjoy it on a regular basis! read more

Simply the best Mexican food in Florence / shoals area! This family owned restaurant is an absolute gem and must try when visiting. With excellent service and delicious margaritas you cannot go wrong! I had the birria tacos and al pastor tacos and they were outstanding! Hugo's also offers a diverse vegetarian menu! The bright interior and welcoming atmosphere makes Hugo's a great setting for date nights and family dinners. 10/10 definitely RECOMMEND! read more

My boyfriend and I stopped at Hugo's on the way to a concert. We were absolutely blown away. The food and service were exceptional. There was plenty of staff, and they helped each other out so well. I didn't see a single person just standing around! The manager came by to welcome us, and make sure things were as they should be. The food was excellent! The salsa and chips were amazing. We had fajitas and chicken chimichanga with beans and rice. The fajitas were the best we've ever had, and the peppers and onions were cooked perfectly. The chimichanga just melted in my mouth. I just can't find a single thing to complain about. It was a busy Sunday (after church services), but Hugo's has ample parking and seating. The atmosphere was cheerful and welcoming. The employees work hard to make sure each person has the perfect visit. I highly recommend Hugo's, and plan to go back really soon! read more
