Came for Father's Day. They don't take reservations so we came mid afternoon to be seated on a decent amount of time. We were seated right away. It has a great outdoor patio with the main restaurant in the house, which was nice and cool. The food was amazing! Between us all, we basically sampled the menu. The daily special was meatloaf, ribeye, jalapeño chopped steak (not spicy), grilled chicken sandwich, and bacon wrapped shrimp. Everything was cooked exceptionally well, well flavored and seasoned. I thought the food and the service provided by the waitress was great. It kind of reminded me of like a cracker barrel style restaurant without the gimmicks. The entrance is a bit strange. You have to enter across from the railroad tracks. They actually have pretty decent beer and wine here as well. It's worth a try if you're around the city center. The only thing that irked me were the two hostess. They made us wait 10 to 15 minutes and there was plenty of seating. When we said something they look like they forgot we were sitting there waiting. My first experience with Huisache Grill was having its charcuterie board as part of the picnic with @amazingco a few years ago. We visited this past Saturday for lunch. We started with the fried oysters as our appetizer. Dad ate the Turkey Sandwich with fries. Hubby had the Cheezy Burger. I had the Duck Salad. A combination of the Fried Brie and the sampler salad is a good way to get started. Lots of flavors to warm you up for the much anticipated entrees. The Chicken Yucatan with the cilantro-tomatillo sauce was the best combination of those two spices I've ever eaten. Perhaps, it was the addition of the sour cream to the mix that made it better, but hands down it was fantastic. Wifey went with the Parmesan Breaded Chicken which was amazing in its own right. The fried outer crust made me want more of it, but didn't want to invoke the death stare while trying to steal a few more bites. Our daughter and her hubby went a bit more traditional with the chicken fried steak which seemed to be tasty, too, based on their reactions. No meal is complete without a sugar fix, so the apple crisp with the walnut crumbles for the birthday boy was just we all needed to put us down for the night. My husband surprised us by bringing us here after my son finished playing his basketball game. This local hidden gem has its own private parking lot that from the outside gave a very homey, cozy feel to it. Within entering you could tell they had cute timeless decor and were sat with other families in the room. The menu was short but sweet, but we all found something for every tastebud. I ordered the salmon. It was cooked perfectly and the creamy sauce for the potato's paired very well with every part of my meal. I looooved every part of my delicious salmon, it was well cooked and thoughtfully prepared. Everyone's else's meals was incredible! So I've heard of this restaurant, at first sight it looks small but upon entering its quiet appealing, the courtyard is very welcoming and if you want something to drink the bar in the patio area is a nice touch. Now the most important thing, the food, I wanted something simple had the chicken fried steak and in my opinion was very tasty and tender. From the hostess to the server were very helpful even though we had quite of a delay but they were very cordial and brought us the drinks in a timely manner. Great service. The waitress was quick to check our table and take drink orders. Ordered the mixed grill which came with a very fresh garden salad. The menu is clearly marked GF for celiacs and our waitress was quick to warn us about the shared fryer used for the corn chips here. So far so good. Wow!!!!! Mixed grill is killer highly recommend. Came by Huisache Grill today for lunch. So glad we did. We were greeted at our table by Dakotah and ordered our ice tea. She was so polite and sweet. And we both had a love of ice tea. Especially the flavored kind. We both love flavored ice tea with no sugar. Then we ordered and asked if the salmon salad was good and she gave me a big yes and that it is real delish. So I ordered that and it was the best salmon I have had. So tender and NOT dry at all. My husband got the salmon sandwich and thought the same. It was so tender and the bread was so soft. So good. Dakotah was an absolute sweetheart. Great service and she was so attentive to our table. Food was fantastic and the ambiance was beautiful. Love all the old woods and antique decor. It's downtown New Braunfels, but doesn't feel like it (in a good way). Really relaxed and they offer blankets for folks if they get chilly at night. This is our 2nd time here, the 1st time the food was very good, and large portion. This time the food was very underwhelming. Everything from the shrimp to the steak medallions were overcooked. Very disappointing. The worst part though was our waiter, Brian C. He acted like he wished he was anywhere but here. He never once came back to see if we needed anything, never refilled our drinks & never asked how our food was & just had a very put out attitude. He definitely is not an asset to your restaurant. Came into town to celebrate our Mom's bday. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. My tortilla soup was cold, but she quickly replaced it with a new one that was at least warm. I had the salmon special and substituted the rice for sweet potato wedges. The salmon was pretty bland. The shrimp on top were so delicious, but unfortunately it only came with two. Overall, the food was under seasoned and not hot when served. Definitely don't order the crème brûlée to go...I was shocked when I opened it. Also, if the restaurant reads this-please consider putting a changing table in your bathroom. Impressive would be an understatement to describe dinner last night at Huisache Grill in New Braunfels, TX. A family owned spot for 30 years in an old cabinet shop that is rustically decorated but comfortable. My daughter and I were seated and our server Melissa set us up with drinks while we looked over an interesting menu. It was difficult to decide BUT this place also offers some of the meat options as an add-on to their other plates. So if you want a chicken dish but crave some duck too...you can add duck as a side! I ordered the Huisache Chicken Tortilla soup and Mixed Grill while my daughter ordered from the Mix & Match Combo. Both entrees came with a side salad too. The Chicken Tortilla soup is something you would be remiss...the absolute best version of this soup I've ever had! The Mixed Grill had 2x beef medallions, blackened quail, skewered spicy shrimp, and poblano bacon wrapped chicken. I LOVED it all! The creamy horseradish sauce and Dijon/Merlot sauce a wonderful compliment for dipping and the sides of herbed baby potatoes and sautéed vegetable medley nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Mix & Match consisted of beef medallions and the Char-broil grilled duck breast along with green beans and herbed potatoes. Again, everything delicious and the duck was very good and the char didn't overcook the duck. We tried their GF Apple Crisp...for purists of this dish it is a dramatic flip...but in a good way of this dish. One note...only wine and beer, no cocktails available. Once we arrived parking was a bit difficult to find (especially on a Wednesday), since it's in a small area. Once we arrived we were greeted and quickly seated. The atmosphere was nice and had a romantic bar vibe. Once seated we ordered drinks and an appetizer (the artichoke dip) and also ordered our main courses. I ordered the Breaded Chicken and my girlfriend ordered the Basil Chicken. Both came with soup or salad, which we both ordered the soup. One chicken tortilla soup and one soup of the day. Shortly after our waitress brought us rolls w/ butter which were nice, delicious, and warm. Later our appetizer arrived, which had a nice presentation but did not have any flavor at all. It was bland and the pita chips had to be eaten with it since they had saltiness to add with it. Once we received our main courses, we were excited (since the plates looked great). But after eating the food we both were disappointed. The pasta with the Breaded Chicken was very bland and the crust was sliding off the chicken. It was very difficult to eat. As for the Basil chicken plate, the kale was not tasty at all. It had a salty kick and then a bitter aftertaste. We had told our waitress and once she spoke to the manager she provided a 10% discount for the inconvenience. I'm sorry, but I give this place 3 stars. Wait time was really quick on a Saturday evening in December. Only 5 minutes. We sat on the Patio which was nice with the heaters. Our server was a bit awkward and slower so that is the main reason I am taking a star. We also were not given wine list when we were seated. The food is really good though we had the fried brie which was better than I expected but really only a good appetizer for two or three with the size. Dishes all come with a soup or salad. The soup of the day was a sausage and tortellini. If they ever describe that soup order it! The main dishes were good as well but you also get bread with the soup and salad. We LOVE Huisache and we are regulars at least 5 times a month sometimes more if we have friends in town. HOWEVER as a previous trainer for customer service, the hostesses could use some training. As the first face of the restaurant, they should have a smile and greet guests with a hello. Tonight, the shorter hostess was super rude and kept adding more time to the wait. I said "how long is the wait?" She replied "30 minutes" and then when I said I would like to put in our name she said " now it is actually 40 minutes" She also was super sassy to a large party of guys, talking back to them when they asked questions about their table. No eye contact, no greeting, no smile as a hostess will deter any future guests from coming to such an amazing place.
