When we discovered a leak under our house, we called our usual plumber to correct it. But he was overloaded with work and he suggested Hukills. When the technician "Marcos" arrived, he got into action immediately. Within one hour, the leaking pipe was replaced. At first the thought of a huge plumbing expense was daunting. I am a general contractor. I was also a plumbing contractor 30 years ago. We are remodeling a homeless shelter and two of the toilets had the top of the system clogged repeatedly. Hukills came out to the job to run a camera down the line. They did not record it and gave the maintenance man for the facility a report saying that there was flat spot in the line causing the problem. I reas asked to take look at the problem. I requested a quote to repair the problem and three phone calls reminding them and two months later I get a bid for $15,000 to cut concrete, repair 10' of line and replace the concrete. The I discovered that the line above where the reported problem was has a working toilet that never backed up. That means the problem was not where they said it was. I called the office and explained what was going on, asked to look at the drain camera recording. There wasn't one. She said we could pay for a whole new service call and recording. The service man the first time pulled the toilet for access rather than looking for the clean-out which was in the closet on the backside of the wall. It was a commercial job so any decent plumber would have a hunch. The over priced bid for something that wasn't the problem is a problem. They could have fixed that problem with no result. When communicating with the office I found tge manager showed know desire to make it right. It's a homeless shelter. I'll never call them again. read more

Residential water main Pressure Relief Valve suddenly failed resulting in no water pressure to my house. Called Hukill's on a Thursday, earliest they could come out was the following Tuesday. Their phone representative was knowledgeable and friendly; she made sure that I understood that the service call was going to cost $175 for the first hour and it would be payable at the time the Hulkill's guy arrived. Technician Chris arrived on time and wasted no time tracing the water pipe that was underneath the driveway. The issue was finding where the PRV was located. He wanted to inspect the crawl space, which would be a waste of time since I had already done that. He found a very small water leak that was caused by Avista when they upgraded the gas service. (Totally separate problem!). If you have a leak, Hulkill's is highly competent! The leak had to be repaired before locating the PRV (not sure why). Work done to potable water pipes require a journeyman plumber ($$$) because of rules; however, as the homeowner I could fix it myself. Chris needed to have his supervisor come out and look at the job. He prepared a detailed 'service description' while still 'on the clock'. This resulted in a $326 service call for 1.75 hours of work and $20 bucks of helium for the leak detection machine. A couple of hours later Chris and supervisor Brock returned and informed me that they would need to open the line and push a metal tape thru to find the blockage or PRV. It would require cutting concrete in the driveway. At this point I requested an estimate. Several days passed with no estimate. I called and was informed that the estimate would be 'expedited'. At this point I lost confidence in Hukill's; ended up doing the job myself and saved a boatload of money. The estimator did call a week later but I had finished the work. IMHO, they really didn't want to do the job because I was too involved and wanted to save money by doing some of the work myself. I suspect that Brock knew exactly where the PRV was located but wanted to burn up a lot of time by breaking up concrete, cutting pipes, replacing existing fittings with PEX and running a snake. I commend him for generating revenue. Bottom line, I dug out and replaced the PRV, fixed the leak and installed a backflow prevention device for a total of $645, including the service call. My labor time was 22 hours (I'm old and slow, but not stupid). I estimate that the Hukill's final bill would be somewhere North of $2,800. Summarizing: Hukill's is professional but very expensive. Charging $175/hour for writing up the invoice and making phone calls is revenue generation at its best; somewhat unfair to homeowner. Poor coordination and communication within the company is a major problem. Estimates are not timely. Not sure of the quality of work. read more

I had an emergency septic problem on Sunday and called Hukill's. They had no tech available but offered to speak to someone to maybe help troubleshoot. After speaking with Will for about 15-20 minutes, nothing could be done by phone. When called, a plumber was sent out in a reasonable time to replace our garbage grinder. He did a good job and then was asked to fix our Kohler kitchen fauucet that was leaking. He said that he didn't have a wrench to access the facet and didn't know anything about that brand anyway. I needed a toilet fixed right away due to have someone in our house with special needs. I called on a Sunday morning and within 15-20 minutes the plumber was at our house and fixed the problem. This company was highly recommended. They came out, assessed the situation and explained everything. They told me $159 per hour for 6 hours plus any extra parts. That sounded reasonable to me. When I recieved a written quote, it was over $2800! Easy math of hourly rate plus supplies does not come even near that amount! A closer look at the itemized details showed 8 hours of work plus $100 per hour for an apprentice! So I was getting charged $259 an hour! I went with another plumber who charged about half as much for 7 hours of work (Approximately $160 per hour plus permits and a small amount for parts). I will not be calling Hukills again. read more

Chris came out and installed a new dishwasher and garbage disposal. That night, when loading the washer, the bottom skirting panel popped off. I called the next day & Levi came out and detected what the problem was (our cabinet was a tad larger than the cheap plastic screws, provided by manufacturer, allowed for). Our shower started leaking and we assumed changing the shower head would fix it. Of course it was more complicated than that, so we called Hukill's. Chris, the first person to come look at it, was right on time and very professional. He told us they'd need to order a new cartridge, which they did. He was right on time and very professional. When the part came in, we made another appointment to have it installed. Apparently Chris wasn't available, so Marcos came today to finish the job. The company hadn't provided him with either the part or complete notes about what was required, so he jumped right back into his truck and went back to get what he needed. To me they seem perfectly incapable of scheduling an appointment in a timely and reasonable fashion. The people answering the main phone line do not appear to have any understanding of how the operation works yet they are the ones communicating with the customer. This poor communication system leads to a breakdown when trying to get the job accomplished. After having spent almost a month trying to get this problem resolved and running into complication after complication, I give up! Things were so much simpler where I used to live you could just call a plumber, book an appointment and get the problem fixed. I have not been able to figure out the system down here at all. In my experience it takes the office personnel almost a week to get back to me when I try to contact the main line and then they seem to need to contact someone else each time. On the last call she tried to make the appointment for Friday. I simply asked why the appointment would be Friday instead of Wednesday or Thursday as I was told the previous week when someone took the message and without warning I was transferred to another person in the office. When that person offered Wednesday I took it. Today Jerry called out of the blue and left a message canceling the appointment (not adjusting it just outright canceling it). As the owner, I would think you would want to make adjustments to how your processes work instead of losing business using a system that does not work but to each their own. read more
