I never would have thought I would enjoy this mine as much as I did. Perhaps it was the little boy in me remembering my old Tonka trucks and sandbox from back in the day. The views are epic, beautiful and truly awe inspiring. The equipment they sue is MASSIVE and shows how creatively industrious humans are to conceive and build such behemoth devices. Looking out over the mine I couldn't help but think how I wanted to come ack during a snowfall at sunrise and just watch the snow as the morning colors change. Worth your time to see, I can think of worse ways to burn an hour. read more

This was pretty interesting, and FREE, so if you hate it, no harm done. They have a really great little gift shop and I honestly might go back there just to get some local lotions, food seasonings, etc. I didn't ask if the people working there were volunteers or employees but they were very, very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I found this tourist attraction to be visually appealing, with many static displays of mining equipment. With the elevated height of this new site, I was afforded nice, panoramic views of active iron ore mining activities, as well as parts of the city of Hibbing. read more

Stopped here this year with some family that was visiting from out of state. If you haven't seen the "Grand Canyon of the North" this is really worth the stop. You will be able to view an active open pit Iron ore mine. It is impressive to see. You also will be on top of a high look out which will give you an excellent view of the surrounding area. It over looks Hibbing and Chisholm is able to be viewed in the distance. I believe it will free, but they welcome donations. The donations help them improve the viewing area. read more

Super small, but so interesting. The volunteers are always so knowledgable and nice. The kids love climbing on all the things, esp the huge dump truck. I know it closed at the end of this season with plans to open elsewhere nearby. I do hope those plans happen. This is really an interesting place and I love walking through nearby old Hibbing. They have done a nice job with the informational signs. read more

Pros: Mind-boggling to see the biggest operating open pit iron ore mine in the world. Man made Grand Canyon. Display of the gigantic vehicles used in open pit mining paired with informative placards. Comfortable, enclosed viewing area. Cons: Bone chilling winds so dress warmly. read more
