To be clear, I dont go to Humboldt Park, I drive thru it. Its on my new favorite route to downtown... Its always pretty. :D

Great! The only park open in the neighborhood during covid. They have swings too (big plus with us!)

Such a nice park ... only some miscellaneous riff-raff keeping it from being a 5 star experience. As some of the others have mentioned, I would avoid walking around Humboldt at night by yourself. The tennis courts on the east side of the park are well maintained and have lights that go until 10:30 or 11 at night during the summer. The west side courts are in pretty sorry shape. The gardens and ponds scattered throughout the park help put your mind out of a city of 3,000,000. The park is huge, too - you can easily run your dog off the leash on a weekday and not run into another soul. read more

I walk dogs here every day. Gorgeous space with tons of space. Amenities are wonderful and there are always tasty food trucks ready to serve if you gwt hungry running around! read more

Humboldt Park is a gem. A beautiful way to spend a summer Saturday if you're sick of the bus ride and crowds at the beach. Minus one star for the surrounding neighborhood after dark and inaccessibility by train, but still a wonderful daytime haven for near northwestsiders. read more

Humboldt Park is a great example of how Chicago could be. It could show its original splendor with just an ounce of professional oversight from the city. As is, it's under the thumb of underachievers. This summer I entered the park near California and Division one afternoon, and 3 old farts screamed "This is a Puerto Rican Park" over and over. I pretended I couldn't hear and ignored them. The water fountains around the park are in disrepair. Fried food vendors fill the park with grease stink and garbage. Their generators overpower the birdsong. All the garbage cans face the street, as if no one would ever need to toss garbage in the vast green interior. Honestly, how much did the the city spend to restore the natural aspects of the park? And then we turn it over to the amateurs? read more

Despite the general feelings many Chicagoans have about the neighborhood, Humboldt Park happens to be the most beautiful park in Chicago. When I think of our lovely city, Humboldt Park is always one of the top places in my mind. I've had some great times here playing tennis, jogging along the pathways, riding bikes, picnicking, walking to the park from my old pad in Humboldt for Riot Fest, and even getting to the grind waiting at the bus stop. It's a beautiful, clean park and I hope I continue to enjoy it for many years to come. read more

I love this park. It's so nice, and even when there are a ton of people there is doesn't feel overly crowded. The boat house is really beautiful and I love how there are always tons of little league games and activities going on all summer. I come to ride my bike in circles here because the paths are beautiful and I feel safer wearing headphones if I'm not on the road. I love that you can actually fish in the little lakes. The park is huge and gorgeous. I love spending warm Sunday afternoons here. read more

I've got a friend who lives near here and she's always got exciting stories!! I agree that the area is gentrifying but it's got a way to go. There's still way too much drug activity and that sort of thing. The park itself could be great if the overall neighborhood were a bit better. I wouldn't hang out here though...I find it a bit scary. read more

Huge Urban Oasis on the West Side!! I have been heading up every time the thermometer gets above freezing. There are so many pathways you could walk/run for hours without repeating your pattern or getting bored. I feel like I discover a new path every time I go. One complaint... it's making me wish spring/summer were here even more!! I love watching the ducks/geese on the snow and ice, but I wanna see them IN the melted pond already!! Lots of good dog/puppy watching too. Any complaints I have read to me are explained away by the fact that this is a park in a big city! Such is life! So glad to live near Humboldt Park!! read more

Humboldt Park is great and not at all dangerous. Don't believe me? I'm the whitest looking white boy you've every seen--blond hair, blue eyes, slight build. I dress like a yuppie. I probably release pheromones that attract muggers. Yet, I've lived in the neighborhood for 4 yrs., I walk my dogs there almost every day--sometimes twice, sometimes after dark. I jog in the park daily. I've never been mugged, never been threatened, never seen someone mugged, never even seen a fight break out. And lest you think the dogs are scaring off the muggers--I own two timid basset hounds. Humboldt Park was in a bad way once--15 yrs ago. Today, Humboldt Park is one of Chicago's hidden gems--a beautifully designed Frederick Olmsted park that doubles as perhaps the single most ethnically and economically diverse public gathering place in the city. If you are too scared to come here, you're missing out. read more

This park is beautiful!! And huge! Wonderfully landscaped and well maintained - lifeblood of the neighbourhood! Loved the formal gardens and the lagoons plus the sheer amount of weeping willows! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for weeping willow trees. Very family oriented with the playground, pool and a multitude of childrens sports leagues playing on the pitches. Sketchy location though, but this area is ever so s l o w l y gentrifying. Yes the park is home to dealers and drug users (someone was shooting up in the bathroom stall next to me in the fieldhouse) as well as a whole host of rabbits and other cute wildlife, but I feel safe here during the day - and obviously do all of the families, dog walkers, fishers and joggers - because the park was bursting with life today! A wonderful place to bike, jog, fish, picnic or just wander! Just make sure you stay aware of your surroundings...just like any other place in the city. The police presence helped me feel secure, for sure. read more

Great park, but dirty. Humboldt Park, have you ever met Central Park? Its 4 times bigger and CLEANNNNN. So Humboldt Park is super great, but pretty dirty. So much garbage everywhere, all the time, tequila bottles, condom boxes, fast food cups, beer cans, etc. I tried to clean it up, but the park is too big. read more

This is my favorite park in the city! I try to go for at least one run around the park every weekend because it makes me so happy. When I moved here people told me not to run around or go to the park. That was ridiculous! I would only advise caution in the dark. For the most part, you will see runners, parents with their kids, people with dogs, and a few fishermen. There is alot of baseball in spring and summer. There are tennis courts on the east and west sides. There are a few food vendors: one off Division on the west side, one on the north end at Humboldt Blvd, and some random carts. I have gotten really great elotes from the cart vendors. It is a park that should be enjoyed. read more

This is actually a great location to play some rounds of tennis, and well lit which is very important when playing at night!

It is a beautiful park with lots of different paths for walks and runs and areas to chill. Its a block from where I live and my favorite thing about this area. You can see the change in the community in the last 5 years based on the people you see at the park. Its safe to go when its light out for sure..I don't think twice about it and I'm a 5' tall female :) You'll be fine. read more

My husband and I were married five years ago at the HP Boat House and I have to give the staff at the park a big shout out as they helped make our day a very special one! They allowed us to set up chairs for my guests to view the ceremony and then they took care of taking it all down. The office manager (forgive me her name escapes me) was so friendly, kind, and patient with my questions and constant calling. My guests were impressed with this beautiful park and with how memorable our special day was. read more

I used to come here as a kid but later while living in the neighborhood stopped going because of all the gang members and people that I didn't care to be around would always be there. Lately as I have been there it seems to have gotten a lot better. The park is kept nice and it is a great location for Riot Fest. They also have some tennis courts, ponds and the bird santuary which is pretty cool. read more

When I look out my living room windows every day, I can't help but love Humboldt Park. It's gorgeous! I go to the park most often for long walks. I love the pond and the formal gardens. When I babysit, kids love the multiple playgrounds. It's a fabulous park. I'm very excited the museum to open up! read more

I, my three kids and wife, love this park and have called it home for five years now. We use the park as much as possible, walks, biking, swimming and garden hopping. The inside of the fieldhouse is amazing and we have never had a problem. The one issue I do have though is the dog thing - "Oh my dog doesn't bite." Excuse me but please put the pit bull on a leash before she eats my baby. The new library is on its way, Cubs park is being moved as we speak and people are starting to pick up their garbage and the city has made an investment in the area. read more

Just read manuel's review, he must have moved out over 10 years ago because that's not the humboldt park I live in. I walk my dogs around the park all the time and have never had a problem. Yes the park is not Lincoln park and it is best to avoid it during the P.R. Fest, but the rest of the time it is beautiful. Every day, more and more caring families move in and I look forward to a time when the way pass days of needing body armor are forgotten! I remember being awestruck when I first came across Humboldt Park. If you're not from the area, you just don't expect a park to appear amidst such a populated area, but there it is, in all of it's grassy glory. I've been rollerblading there, but now insist on dragging a buddy along-- I've been there alone, and having been yelled at a few times, I just prefer not being a lone girl on wheels in case anything were to happen. Generally, the people are nice, and it's a lovely place to walk (or bike, or drive) to and spend the day picnicking, or sampling delicious treats from the various food vendors. I love that you can be surrounded by flowers and all that natural beauty stuff, and still have a great view of the skyline. read more

As a runner I love heading up to Humboldt Park on the weekends in the summer. The park is huge (for being in the middle of the city) and is filled with families, old folks and everyone in between. People think this place is scary but I've never felt threatened or in danger or anything like that. This park is definitely worth visiting and is a great mini-escape when you can't get down to the lake or if you just want someplace more quiet. read more

This is a great park...I enrolled my son in the Little League Program and it is a delight to see children and adults enjoy this park. Baseball diamonds galore and all very busy with different leagues during spring/summer. The Little Cubs Field just opened today and it is amazing and beautiful. I'm glad it was rebuilt and brought to HP. read more

Park is not worth a visit if you're from out of town. It's nice and big so you could have a run around it but it's in disrepair. Has massive potential but with some visitors insisting on discarding their rubbish by the waterside thus ruining the potential of these sites and with the toilets on the north of the park in utter disgusting condition I'd not exactly be going out of my way to visit again. read more

I didn't really spend much time in the park, but I did get to run a couple laps around it. I participated in the Earth Day 5K with my sister-in-law. It was nice to think that the local neighborhoods have access to an open green space, even in a big city. read more
