Renowned and reputable university in the heart of Berlin. Most Noble Prize winners graduated from here. Historically, it is the first public library. In front of the university, lies the memorability of the book burning during the war. Heinrich Hiene once said, "Wherever they burn books they will also, in the end, burn human beings." read more

Humboldt university building's architecture is beautiful. There is an interesting exposition after door entrance over mental disease. Hall and seats were OK, just it was little bit cold because it was probably less heated! University employees were friendly and helpful. Cafeteria food was OK and service was very friendly. read more

29 (!) Noble Prize winners and numerous other famous scholars did their work here - most of which you know from your science class in school. Visit the traditional campus Unter den Linden and explore the brand new science campus built on the historic airfield in Adlershof, where Otto Lilienthal wrote aviation history. read more

History

Established in 1810.

Noch heute gilt die 1810 gegründete Berliner Universität als "Mutter aller modernen Universitäten". Dieses ist das Verdienst der Universitätskonzeption des Gelehrten und Staatsmannes Wilhelm von Humboldt. Humboldt stellte sich eine "Universitas litterarum" vor, in der die Einheit von Lehre und Forschung verwirklicht und eine allseitige humanistische Bildung der Studierenden ermöglicht wird. Dieser Gedanke erwies sich als erfolgreich, verbreitete sich weltweit und ließ in den folgenden anderthalb Jahrhunderten viele Universitäten gleichen Typs entstehen. Beeinflusst wurde das Konzept unter anderem von den Reformideen des Philosophen Johann Gottlieb Fichte sowie des Theologen und Philosophen Friedrich Schleiermacher. Fichte war auch erster gewählter Rektor der Berliner Universität.
