If you want Thai food specifically pad Thai -don't go to Hunan. No peanut sauce almost . Waiter said their pad Thai didn't have peanut sauce - just " a special sauce." If you crave for your favorite mai tai drink ,go to a seasoned bar ; Hunan is not familiar with the mai tai recipe - it was more like pineapple juice with grenadine... when we asked the waiter he said their mai tai didn't have pineapple juice... he should have said their mai tai did NOT have rum :( The general tso is also not their strong item on the menu. Most unimpressive too was, while you eat, the waiters would be staring either at you or your food - about literally 5 ft from you. We got takeout here because our usual go to Chinese place was too busy. The takeout was not great. Although it was ready quickly, the entrees (sesame chicken, sesame beef, and sweet and sour chicken were almost soggy. The fried rice was ok, and the egg rolls are good. I come to Hunan for their sushi which is okay overall- well crafted and quality is not bad but worth it for how much you're spending. Their large size scorpion bowls is decently price ($15) compared to $17 or $20 you'd spend at another nearby restaurant. This place is tucked away from the main road but you can see the sign pointing you out the direction. Must have passed by a dozen times before I decided to go and boy am I glad that I did! Surprised at the awkward layout of the restaurant but we were welcomed and sat immediately. Had to ask for Chinese noodles sand we were not offered the. No soy sauce on the table. We were there for dinner and they do not offer combination plates which we both thought unusual. Offering an extremely large menu, Hunan Pan definitely has something for everyone. I arrived on a weekday within the first hour of them opening so the place wasn't busy. The waitress gave recommendations of dishes that I ended up really enjoying. We ordered from the chef specialties. The best dish was definitely the mixed beef, prawns, and scallops dish. Just left hunan pan in their new location in Shelton. It's kind of small inside but we got a nice table easy. We tried the steamed dumplings and crab Rangoon. Both were good. We also had the sesame chicken which was pretty good. The sweet and sour chicken which was pretty decent. Finished it off with broccoli and chicken lo mein. Holy cow was the lo mein so good. Nice pieces of chicken and noodles had the hibachi like smokiness and a little oily too. I could eat that stuff all day. Service was great and we got our waters filled like 100 times. Shelton has quite a few different options for Eastern Asian restaurants. If I am going out for sushi, Hunan Pan is my personal favorite. Their service is very attentive and the sushi is the best I've had in the Shelton area. As soon as you sit down, you are given water, a pot of tea, and large wonton strips with sauce to enjoy. At this point I'm pretty sure there is a group of us at my job that are regulars here. They always make us feel extremely welcomed with greeting us immediately and always asking how things are. Since we for the most part come here for lunch we tend to sit at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are extremely friendly and great at what they do. When siting at the sushi bar you always get a crunchy salad, a personal favorite. All of their rolls are delicious and fresh. Their sushi pizza is something I've never experienced. I haven't personally had a bento box, but coworkers have and they are very generous portions. The miso is also very tasty and not too salty. Your cup of water will always be filled and they are there to answer any questions you may have. Nice place and wonderful service! I recommend to anyone in the area. read more

I ordered food from the Yelp app tonight and it was decent. I requested to have my food very spicy and it wasn't even hot at all. I had Kung Pao chicken. The chicken was very good and I loved the peanuts in it. They weren't soggy like some other places. The building is also very beautiful at night. The people that worked there seemed very nice. We ordered lunch today at work from your website. We ordered 3 lunch specials and the order went through successfully. A HALF HOUR later, you called to tell us you dont do lunch specials on weekends. When we asked if you would be kind enough this one time to offer it to us, since we ordered a half hour ago and thought our food would be on its way.. you said no and you just opened. Is it our fault that your website doesnt say that you cant place an order till 11:30 or allows you to order lunch specials on a day that you do not choose to offer it? Regardless, we called Dao, they are delivering us the same lunch specials you could have given us, and they were even $10 cheaper. You just lost alot of business from all of us here at the salon. First of all....WHERE THE HELL IS THIS PLACE?! Our GPS (as well as the address listing) says it's 303 Bridgeport Ave. Lies. After we circled the area as well as went up and down Old Bridgeport Ave, Hunan Pan is located on actually another road off of 299 OLD Bridgeport Ave. (We found this out after calling them up and having the manager redirect us over the phone. So then we arrive and honestly before my father and I sat down, they already brought over 4 waters, hot mustard, sweet & sour sauce and those crispy noodles for dipping. hmmm.....prompt. But that was just the beginning. As we were figuring out what to order, there were about 3-4 waitresses standing about 7 feet away from our table staring down our every move. Mind you, this just wasn't at the beginning, through out the whole rest of our meal they rotatingly stalked us. One waitress was a bit more pushy than the rest. This one sees you take a sip of tea and two seconds later, pours your little mug back up. After the second time, I told my family that I was putting that damn teapot on my side of the table so she could no longer reach it. She even gave us a glare after we moved it too. Now I can pour my tea refills in peace and not have to deal with her pouring all the time, each time rushing so that tea also drips onto my plate and napkins. DON'T COME HERE FOR A RELAXING MEAL. These waitresses are on high alert and pounce on your plate after you take the last bite. They also unnecessarily move your bowls, plates and glasses around mid meal. Hello lady! Don't move my items around after I've drank and eaten from them. Calm it with your OCD. With that being said though, the food was phenomenal. Great salad, plenty of ginger dressing. The Spicy Tuna Roll was great (they give you 8 pieces where usually places only give you 6) I had the Scallop Teriyaki, the sauce was out of this world. Most places throw in some water chestnuts, carrots and broccoli and this one had that plus zucchini and asparagus. Mom had the Chicken Teriyaki. Dad had the Shrimp Tempura and my sister had the Vegetable Tempura. My father even mentioned to the manager that the waitstaff was too much on top of you....the manager didn't really know what to say other than he was thankful for letting him know. It was $8.50 for the combo, which is probably a little expensive, but I never paid for it so what did I care. As risky as delivery sushi can be, I always thought it was pretty good. This place is the best place to get Chinese in the Valley. The people are super nice and orders are filled really quickly for take out. If you are dining in, they have really good drinks and the service is always quick and efficient. They have recently remodeled and they cleaned it up a lot--brighter. Probably one of the most horrific dining experiences I've had, thus far. Let's begin with this: upon exiting the vehicle to enter the restaurant, there was a very distinct pungent smell of refuse spewing from the dumpster. We should have circled back to the car and sped off at that point, but we've been driving for quite some time and needed to nourish. I'd like to say as a restaurant owner, placing your dumpster in close proximity to the front door is not only poorest of judgment, but very distasteful. We venture on into the restaurant with some valor, and desperation for some food, with the hope that the food will be of at least mediocre quality. We enter and instead of an invitational greeting, the hostess(with a hopeful tone may I add) asks if we are picking up a take-out order. I kindly respond with "no" and ask to be seated at a table for two. Hostess responds with nothing in return, picks up two menus, leads us to our table, and slams the menus down, while continuing to walk past. We have to then assume this is where we will be dining tonight and hope that a server will tend to our needs. Needless to say, the service has already presented itself badly. The restaurant is currently hosting no more than one other party and a few men sipping cocktails at the bar, but of course we wait. We wait still for someone to AT MOST say hello. At least they're consistent, right? Several moments have now passed, which we don't mind so much, as it allows us the time to consult with our palates and compile an order from "soup to nuts" all in one shot. A woman arrives table-side with tea, wonton crackers accompanied by a mystery sauce, and waters. There was a microsecond of excitement in my bones when this occurred, like a hopeful child awaiting negligent parents. Hopeful was quickly diluted to hopeless when waitress aggressively places these items and mutters something I've not yet been able to translate. Our actual server, lacking in all the lustrous qualities a server should appear to have, listlessly roams over to take our order. She painstakingly does so, with a look of stoicism, not even a Hellenic statue would have been able to deliver. BUT, enough about the service, or lack there of. The food has arrived. To start we get the edamame and wonton soup. Both of standard quality. No complaints there. I ordered the broccoli cooked in a spicy garlic sauce with white rice. It took the longest to prepare, but I'm patient. This was probably the most satisfactory dish, but not something to write home (or Yelp) about. My partner ordered the cold sesame noodles, which was quite frankly a dish of cold spaghetti with a hint of generic peanut sauce. Again, we're moving along consistently. Lastly, we have the spicy tuna roll. We have eaten sushi in an abundance of Japanese/Sushi establishments, this was not sushi. It was poor quality "tuna" masked heavily with an unidentifiable coating of flavor and tempura flakes. Off, just way off, in concept, in execution, but most importantly in freshness.
