Great Chinese food that's straight to the point -- how can you not love it?!? My family is in town, visiting my husband's grandparents, and Hunan was at the top of their list for us to try. And after seeing how the staff and my husband's grandfather get on and razz each other, it was clear this is a regular spot for them. And I can see why. All of the food we had was delicious and was brought out to the table quickly. I ordered the Honey Walnut Prawns, which were crispy and sweet. The candied walnuts provided a bit of a sweet edge to this entree. This was by far my favorite, and if you go, you should definitely get it. The Sizzling Scallops and Hunan Shrimp were also excellent. The seafood in each was large and the sauces savory. It was fun for our group to order several entrees and all share. And the staff was very attentive. We brought my infant son, and they set out a few extra chairs for us to sit his car seat on. This restaurant looks to be in an old drive-in restaurant, and Hunan has stretched the small kitchen to make some wonderful dishes. read more

This spot is a Clayton road classic and I would hate to do it any injustice. However, the food is a hit or miss depending on the item. The honey walnut prawns are DELICIOUS. The chow mein is very bland and mediocre... and the beef was weird... TONS of meat softener. And the kungpao chicken is TRAGIC. The meat smells very bad. It lacks flavor. And is just terrible. I ordered a Honey Walnut Prawns lunch special with fried rice for takeout. The person over the phone was rushing me and kept cutting me off while I was speaking. Even when I came to pick it up, they were rude. The quality of the food was lacking this visit. The first bite I had of the fried rice was pure salt, and every other bite after that was completely unseasoned. I also think they skimped on the shrimp portion. Very disappointed in this visit since I've a pretty positive past with them. Sad. read more

We ordered takeout from here recently & we really enjoyed our meal. They are definitely busy & orders take a while, but it's hot & fresh when ready. We ordered broccoli beef, orange beef, szechwan hot pepper chicken, chicken chow mein & white rice. (They also added in egg rolls for free) The portions are large! We had plenty of leftovers. Our favorites were the chicken chow mein & orange beef. The Szechwan hot pepper chicken was a let down. It had A LOT of water chestnuts, more chestnuts than chicken & it wasn't really spicy. I've been waiting a bit to review. Great find. Love it. Fresh, hot and tasty. I've been here several times and it's consistently good. Service is wonderful. Lunch for two is $20. Great deal for good food. Portions are good size and the egg roles are the best I've had in a long time. Kung Poa chicken is great as is the sweet and sour pork. A literal hidden hidden gem in Concord. This restaurant is in a very non-descript building with very little signage so you might have been in the area a thousand times without knowing you were that close to great food. Once you get a taste of the food you will want to kick yourself for not trying it sooner. I definitely recommend the eggplant with spiced garlic sauce and you will enjoy any of the fried items like chicken wings or egg rolls as they are the right kind of crispy without any over cooking. ​Other dishes that feature fresh ingredients like fresh ​vegetables are cooked well and blend nicely with t​h​e accompanying sauce ​flavors. For an added bonus they also have house sake which is always a good alternative to beer. Would I return? Hunan as been our one ride-or-die restaurant in Concord since we moved here nearly 20 years ago. Our most recent visit was on Christmas Eve, and reaffirmed that this place has still got it, even when they have 10 parties of 7 come in at the same time and only one server scheduled for the night (!). Located in an old drive-in burger place, the restaurant itself looks/feels like it probably did 30-40 years ago. It's likely due for a solid renovation, but the "hole in the wall" style dining is still homey, clean, and comfortable. They fit large groups easily and we've never waited for a seat (parties of 2 are their easiest to accommodate). As a gringo when it comes to Chinese food, I can't speak to the authenticity or specific ingredients, but the dishes here are comfort food to the max - from the little crunchy cabbage eggroll that kicks off the meal to the crispy fortune cookie at the end. Some solid stand-bys: Broccoli Beef (tons of garlic) House Chow Mein (firm noodles with chicken, pork, and shrimp) Cashew Chicken (toasted cashews are on point) Walnut Prawns (rich and insanely good) Sweet and Sour Pork (big ol' hunks of meat, great sauce) General Tsao's Chicken (great when you want a little spice) Hot & Sour Soup (one of the best I've had) All of the dishes run $7-$9 for 2-3 servings. It's best if you order a couple dishes family-style and share - leftovers are always great. If you like heat, ask for chili paste, as the dishes run mild unless specified. Hunan is where we go to when we're craving Chinese food but too lazy to drive far from home. The staff is very friendly and the wait time is usually 15-20 minutes which is not bad. Parking is plentiful. The restaurant probably receives more take out orders than dine in customers. Note that from 3-4 pm they are on their lunch break so you won't be able to place an order at that time. Basically lunch ends at 3 pm and business hours resume at dinner starting at 4 pm. The best entree in my opinion is the honey walnut prawns. Everything else is just average. Nothing wrong with that but nothing really wows me here. We ordered a few lunch specials- beef with broccoli, Mongolian beef, and of course, the honey walnut prawns. Pretty common fare. The egg fried rice is tasty but simple. They do include an egg roll with your meal so that is a bonus. read more
