Funky places like this are my jam, even if I don't purchase anything (but I did)! I saw pictures of this area while planning our trip to Vienna, and didn't tell my husband about it. When he saw it, he liked it too. Out popped the phone and off he wandered to take pictures. There is a small covered shopping area, sort of like a mall. You walk in and there are several small shops around a central bar. Some of the shops have an upstairs, so be sure to check everything out! Hubs isn't much of a shopper, so he got a drink at the bar while waiting for me to finish souvenir hunting before joining him. We each had a drink and I picked up some postcards. The bartender wasn't very talkative, but he was friendly and nice. The shops all carry different stuff, but each is quirky and artsy in it's own way....everything fits in in this area. A worthwhile stop, in my opinion, especially if you are looking for something a little different than all the renaissance and Victorian historical stuff. 52/2025 read more

Charming, colorful, whimsical residential building designed by artist Hundertwasser and an architect. Reminds me of the Gaudy designs in Barcelona. People do live in these apartments so you can't go in, but my one request is that there are more photos of the apts inside. Of the four photos we do see, you can tell the apts are lined with same tiles and colors throughout. Would like to see more of the interior in photos, while keeping their privacy. read more

Yelp Review 2023 #35: Across the street from Hundertwasserhaus is Hundertwasser Village. There's information about other Hundertwasser buildings and where they're located but it's in German. Originally, this building was a horse stable for the post office. It became a gas station and garage. It became a tire factory in the '70's. 10 years later, Hundertwasser realized that people couldn't admire the interior design/ architecture in Hundertwasserhaus because only tenants could see it. So, he talked to the owner of the tire factory and worked on a deal to redesign parts of the tire factory. Tourists started flocking here and operations at the tire factory were often interrupted by tourists. So, the tire factory ceased operations. The entire building was redesigned and was opened to the public in 1991. Hundertwasser's design is reminiscent of architectural works by a certain Spanish man, Gaudi. There are shops, cafe, and public toilets inside the village. It's open daily and it's free! read more

This little village was so unique, with beautiful architecture and colors that just make you feel happy. The small boutique stores were full of unique gifts, perfect for bringing back as souvenirs. The people were incredibly friendly, and I had the most amazing gelato while walking around. It was a lovely afternoon, and this is definitely one of those places I'll remember forever. read more

Hundertwasser Village is quite cute to look at, for the architectural details. If you're already going to look at Hundertwasser house, I'd definitely recommend also going across the street & poking around Hundertwasser village -- check the opening hours so you can catch both! I wouldn't necessarily recommend Hundertwasser Village as a destination in itself though. read more

If you love architecture, you'll adore Hundertwasser Village. It's such a cool, fun place to visit! It was created by artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser and architect Joseph Krawina and opened in 1986. They don't allow entrance into the apartment house, but there are a bunch of shops. I was limited on time and really only wanted to stop by to see the actual facade and take photos, so I didn't spend much time in the shops. They sell a bunch of normal tourist trinkets that you can find anywhere in Vienna, including the ever-popular Mozart balls. But I did snag a cute magnet for a decent price. Refreshments are also available, but again I didn't imbibe. I had to catch a bus, unfortunately. Nonetheless, five stars for this building! It's worth a trip even if you're short on time. read more

Hella expensive in here. Just go outside and take some pictures and than move along; dont buy. If you want souvenir, there is a shop across the street that has some cheaper stuff. Or go travel around more. Plenty of places to buy from. You can get most stuff on amazon. read more

This is so cool! We stumbled on this area as we rode the street car. Looking out the window, these strange building appeared and we had to jump off to see. I'm so glad we did. I didn't visit this when the first time I was here. In fact, I sort of left it out of my check list in by some reasons. And later on my trip this time i saw it on the tourist map. So I decided to check out this place. I really keen this kinda weird style of the architecture. And this village got couple of them. Beside the apartment (and yes, they really have people living inside) also there is a market close by which got the same style. The market is quite interesting. There is shop, bar inside. It isn't that big, but great place to look around. And just couple blocks away, that's another one. I think most of the visitor will miss that one. I didn't seem many people there when I was visiting the other one. It is more a museum. It is quite nice as well. And I like the café there. I know, Vienna has alot beautiful places. I do think, this isn't the most beautiful place, but it's one of the thing that worth to visit. I glad that I visited this place. read more

Hundertwasser Village is an eclectic-artsy area that draws you in with the unusual building shapes, colors and textures which are visually attracting. The combination of funky architecture and sidewalk height fluctuations can be troublesome for the mobility impaired. It is off the beaten path but easy to get to by street car trolleys. There is a mini-mall that has a full liquor bar in the middle and surrounded by many small shops and restaurants. The architecture and décor is just as unusual inside as it is outside. I loved the running water on the bar countertops! There are pay restrooms downstairs and free wifi located throughout the mini-mall area. Rip off of Gaudi. You can't see the inside. The cafe is extremely lame. Unless you are really bored, I can't recommend it very highly.

You aren't necessarily going to come here to shop because it is a tourist location. Prices aren't exactly great. But even if you don't like or understand the art, there's this sort of whimsical charm that wins you over with the Hundertwasser Village. Ambience: Because you can't go into the house, the village is the next best thing. They have food and lots of shops. You can get souvenirs and they are the expected tourist price. The plants and the colourful tiles is what makes this place stand out from other places. Everyone seems to be constantly smiling and the stores are all different shapes and sizes. Shops: In addition to souvenirs, many of the stores sell artistic pieces and prints that I was tempted to buy. Unfortunately, I knew I had no place to put them so I didn't. But they are so beautiful to look at. Like I said, I didn't buy anything, but I'd like to go back and maybe sit and enjoy the experience more. Maybe next time I'll even grab a sandwich. read more

Came to just see what the area really looked like and it looked pretty just like the photos. Stopped to have a warm drink and surprisingly saw someone who we had a mutual friend from America. Wish we met sooner. Funny experience. read more
