I recently visited Hunky's and left pretty disappointed with the food overall. I ordered the double cheeseburger, fries, and strawberry cake after hearing positive things about the place, but the meal did not live up to expectations. The biggest letdown was the burger. The meat was dry, underseasoned, and lacked flavor altogether. Even with the toppings and cheese, it still tasted bland and did not have the juicy, fresh quality you would expect from a burger spot with such a strong reputation. The fries were okay but nothing memorable or standout. I also tried the strawberry cake, which was decent, but it was not enough to save the overall experience. Another delicious reason to add bishop art district to your visit list when going to Dallas. This place is a casual spot for lunch and even offers $6 margaritas which we definitely ordered (not shown). Our cashier was helpful with us being first timers and we sat down at a table then waiting for our food to be brought to us. I would 100% recommend this spot if you want a casual spot for lunch while walking around this cute spot on the outskirts of downtown dallas. Delicious quick burger stop. The employees were all very friendly and inviting as soon as we walked in. I got the Double double and it was huge and so perfectly cooked. They also have the tempura onion rings, which are my favorite, and the fried pickles were the perfect ratio of pickle to batter. Hi Kya is located in Dallas, Texas off Oak lawn. It's across from JR's. I've been coming to the area for a very long time, but I've never actually eaten here so I was very excited to try it. When I went into the location. I noticed that the restaurant had a lot of tables that hadn't been cleaned off. there was a lot of trays and not a lot of customers in the store at the time. When I ordered the guy at the register was very polite. He read me back my order and the order was very fast. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger with a small onion ring and a small soda and that total $16.08 which was quite a bit for the small meal that I had the food was good. It wasn't anything spectacular based on the cleanliness of the dining room and the price. I visited Hunky's earlier this month. I ordered a mushroom swiss burger with a turkey patty and jalapeños, tots on the side with a beer. They brought me ranch dressing for my tater tots. I don't like ranch dressing so I asked for an alternative. They offered blue cheese. I agreed. They brought everything to the table. . When they brought blue cheese crumbles I was shocked that it wasn't blue cheese dressing. I like blue cheese so I didn't question it. I chatted with my friend and we left shortly after. I went home. About 45 min later, I got sick. I called the restaurant the next day to tell them what happened. I left a message. No one returned my called. I called again a week later to speak to a manager only to be put on hold and no one ever returned to the phone. Week 3, callagain. No one returned my call. I retuned to the store today and asked for a manager. David comes from the back. He doesn't introduce himself by his name or title. I asked his name. I told him mine, I explained the situation. He asked me when it happened, did anyone else get sick and then started to tell me how tricky blue cheese dressing is which is why he doesn't order it. He tells me there's nothing else he can do because no one else has gotten sick. He hadn't heard of anyone else getting sick. I told him that wasn't my concern if someone else got sick or not, I did. He asked for my receipt. I showed him the charge from that day. He said,well what do you want me to do? Uhm, you're the manager, you tell me how you can rectify the situation. He said, I can't refund you because you don't have your receipt. I can make you another burger. I agreed. I told him my order, same as before. When the order was completed the server was calling out the order but I didn't think it was mine. He kept saying double mushroom swisss to other customers. He finally got to me and I told him that's not what I ordered. I repeated what I ordered he said it was a double. I said I didn't ask for that but ok. Thanks and left. Considering I got sick and this was a "makeup burger", I'd expect that the order would be correct. I've been coming here for years but starting to rethink.... The hype is just that...hype. Many people told me Hunky's was a Dallas staple with amazing diner food, but most of it is not anything special in my opinion. I will say the saving grace was the onion rings which are hand battered and delicious but not worth the almost $4 for a small which is 5 rings total. We also ordered the salted Carmel shake and a salad. The salad was reminiscent of a day old salad bar salad that had been out all day with chicken that was fried in oil that was definitely used for other food items as well (tasted almost like fried fish) and the shake was runny with low quality ice cream. They validate parking for 2 hour timeframe - you can do so by the register. They have their standard menu and have a whiteboard with other options. 10/10 experience, we wandered in there on date night and it truly takes you back to a sort of drive-in movie, more simplified time. This is 100% part of their charm. Tired of intentionally minimalist interiors interspersed with tasteful foliage at Paradiso or Lucia? The brown booths and red burger trays will fit your fancy. Can't stand paying $10 for a slice of pie at Emporium or 1 taco at Tejas? You'll love Hunky's $12.50 burger combos.
