What a great place! I was looking for breakfast in Oslo and this came up as a top pick. I can't…read morebelieve how large the place is, yet has a comfy cozy feel to it. I was there at 9:00 am so still a bit early for a place that stays open until 3:00 am regularly! I took the waitresses recommendation and ordered the avocado toast. I added the fried poached egg out of curiosity. It was amazing! The toast had fresh tomatoes and seasoning. I have never had a fried poached egg... it was so expertly prepared, a real work of art and measure of culinary skill! I can't wait to return to try some other dishes

Usually when I stay in Oslo, I am staying at a hotel that serves some sort of a breakfast buffet…read more This time I am not, so needed to find someplace to fill that need. (and I didn't want to just do a cafe run). A friend reccomended this place and it was a couple of blocks away from where I am staying so I gave it a shot (bonus was that it's open at 0730 M-F, so for someone jet lagged, it was a great way to kill some time early in the morning) Got in and got seated (breakfast restaurants aren't really a thing in Norway, so it was empty when I arrived). Ordered the fried Brussels sprouts as a snack and the eggs, bacon and hash browns as a main w/ locally made sourdough bread from a local bakery on the side. The food was all presented well and tasted great. The hash browns were less shredded potatoes as puréed, then fried. (still tasted fine) and the eggs were scrambled perfectly with the bacon crisped up and sprinkled on top with some sprouts. The bread came lightly oiled and fried (so no need for butter). The Brussels sprouted were roasted with some peppers and served on top of some aioli. Service was great, food was great and will come back at least one more time before I leave town. Yes, it's pretty expensive (this all ran me ~$35 converting from NOK to USD) but Norway in general has a high cost of living, so this is on par with any other sit down meal in a comparable restaurant.

This place has a long way to go and should consider investing in training their wait staff…read more Had a reservation and we were shown to our table. We were given food menus but no wine list or drink menus. 20 frustrating minutes later the waiter came back for the first time and we asked for drink menus. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like the waiters were trained in the wine menu, as just stating what we wanted was not enough - we had to point to the wines in the menu. We ordered a French white wine but they gave us a New Zealand white, which they had already opened at the bar without showing us the label - it was put in an ice bucket an poured. First rule of serving wine: show the label to the customer before opening the bottle so they know they actually got what they ordered. The food was good, I can recommend the fish main and the duck salad starter. The starter portion was a little large, but good value for your money. This is the only redeeming quality of the place. We also sat for almost an hour after finishing our meal, before we had to go to the bar to ask them to send someone to our table so we could pay the check. Again, absolutely inattentive wait staff. All in all, if you want some ok food I recommend this place, but do not expect good service or to get a feeling of being in a restaurant. This place should stick to letting customers order at the bar when they can't offer more with table side service. It's sadly no less than expected from a "restaurant" in a small town.

Right amount of hipsterness, complemented with great food…read more That feeling hit me as I enter the door - hipster alarm! I'm very prejudiced against establishments with too much style, so I was in high alert while sipping my coffee. I was quickly converted by the excellent food. Bread with hummus, a homemade croissant and a triple chocolate brownie were all delicious. 3 hits out of 3. Food checked, Liebling has everything for a great chill-out cafe. Super-cozy. A laid-back atmosphere to work/relax for hours and not feel rushed, soft background music, interesting decors, free Wi-Fi. It seemed to cater to clientele busy on their MacBooks (there were 8 MacBooks at one time) instead of chatting with each other too loudly. Ah, Generation Y. But! The one thing missing is a perfect COFFEE, which would've been a major no-no for me (this is a cafe, after all). The coffee is good, but not virtuoso barista quality. If you're after a quick shot of fine espresso, and not sit for hours, you might be better off at another coffee specialist. I'm willing to let that slide for now, for all the other features that Liebling got right.
