Cool vibe. Friend described as a southern food bar which isn't wrong but I wouldn't say that it was exclusively that. Went for a brunch'ish meal on Saturday morning (open at 10), had a solid sausage and burnt ends hash. Good flavor but didn't blend quite as well as I would have guessed. Maybe needed more egg or cheese. Friendly staff.

Bobby Flay's best gumbo win is what sent me to South Boston, and let me tell you, the hype is real. Spoiler: I made it through TSA with leftovers. That's how good it was. I tried the mac and cheese, cornbread, and of course Lambo's award-winning gumbo. The mac was a solid 10/10. Creamy, flavorful, and pure comfort, even with the breadcrumbs (iykyk). The spoon bread was just okay for me. It leaned a bit too buttery and slightly undercooked, but shoutout to my amazing server and bartender for kindly comping it. Now the gumbo absolutely ate. As someone who loves New Orleans food, I know good gumbo, and Lambo truly gets it. Every bite was packed with meat, bold flavor, and soul. If you're in Boston, take the train and head to Hunter's Kitchen & Bar. Your tastebuds will thank you.

Oh Wow! Hunter's kitchen, You are simply not what I expected!!!! The entertainment here is Amazing!!! Live Bands Rock!! I thought laid back, Sunday dinner, with some good soul food, but you give so much more. Thanks for the Amazing service too. We are a party of five friends visiting beantown looking for delicious soul food. Well we found it! For starters, me and my friend got your Amazing cornbread. Delicious skillet cooked cornbread with corn inside with a scoop of honey butter on top! Yes, the hit of the night. For entrees, Mary and I got the chicken sandwich, both with fries and a side of greens. Greens are spicy but delicious. PD and the Matriarch got fried chicken with greens and coleslaw. Sanders got the chicken and dumplings. Food is 10/10! Everything is good!

Hunters might be my new favorite Southie spot! We were able to walk in at around 2 on a Sunday. We had the mini waffles, burnt end hash, and southern skillet. Incredible food. All of it was so good and not a bite was left on our plates. Service was attentive and quick. Atmosphere is very charming, cozy cabin vibe. Live music was just starting up as we were leaving. I will for sure be back!

Great Southern fare! The Lambo's Gumbo was a delicious medley of Louisiana flavors and had a slight kick. The Chicken Mini Sliders (4 total) were a fusion of savory and sweet between biscuits that were wonderfully rich. Easily recommend!

I recently visited Hunter Kitchen and Bar during a busy brunch hour, and while the atmosphere truly shines, the food and service left something to be desired for the price point. Starting with the positives, the vibe is fantastic--it's a classy take on Southern charm, with wood panels everywhere that really enhance the country feel. The country music playing in the background added to the welcoming, relaxed ambiance, making it a great spot to unwind. On the food side, I tried the Rice Bowl with BBQ pulled chicken. The chicken itself was moist and tender, but it could have benefited from trimming some of the excess fat and tendons. Unfortunately, the dish focused more on presentation than flavor, coming across as a bit bland overall. The gluten-free Kale Salad with regular pulled chicken was another miss for me; the kale had far too many tough stems, which detracted from the enjoyment. As for drinks, the Ginger Snap Mocktail sounded promising with its description hinting at spice, but it turned out overly sweet with no heat whatsoever--disappointing given the expectations set. Service during peak times felt rushed; the staff seemed prioritized on pushing orders to the kitchen rather than providing a warm introduction or attentive check-ins. The noise level was high, which is understandable for brunch, but it contributed to a less polished experience. In summary, Hunter Kitchen and Bar has a lot of potential with its charming decor and theme, but the food didn't quite deliver on taste or value, and the service could use more hospitality during busy periods. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars--worth a try for the atmosphere, but I might skip the food next time.

The southern cooking and hospitality was really refreshing while visiting Boston for the first time. My bartender was pleasant and gave great reviews for all the dishes I requested. I also had two drinks and they were great. I would recommend this place to others when in town

I was a bit disappointed with my reservation, which, by the way, I highly recommend. My Valentine and I made reservations a week ago. We walked in and it was packed with a one man band, who was great but it was sooooo loud! They took us over to the window, looking out at the hardware store. It was like a little space to have more people. We were on stools. Not looking at each other. I went to the hostess and told her our situation. She gave us a few minutes then said that she had a table by the one man band. We didn't mind because it was so loud anywhere you sat. Lots of younger people. Which we didn't mind either. It is a fun place. We ordered drinks with an appetizer, Cowboy Steak. So tender and tasty!!! After a few more drinks, we decided to order our meals. It's 5:30 at this point. We didn't truly get seated until 4:30. The waitress said she had to check if we could order because with reservation seating, they give you 90 minutes? She worked it out so that we could stay. My Valentine ordered Gumbo...he loved it! I got chicken fried steak (ribeye) and it was delicious along with country mashed potatoes. It's not cheap but worth it. Parking is a bit tough. But all in all, it was about the food which I highly recommend.

The food at Hunter's Kitchen & Bar is amazing!! Everything I ate was a 10/10. We found this place on a whim while in Boston for a weekend. The place itself is very popular so I highly recommend making a reservation. FYI there is a $40 hold placed on your credit card to book a reservation. If you no show or cancel within 24 hours they will charge you. We had a reservation but we ended up sitting at the bar so we wouldn't have to wait. We started off with the fried pickles and the everything bagel biscuit bites. The butter they put on these biscuits is out of this world! The shrimp and grits were also another highlight of the day! This was probably the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. Overall, I was not disappointed with the food. However I am deducting 1 star because the atmosphere is pretty loud and gives college bar vibes, which isn't a bad thing, but does make it hard to enjoy a meal.

First time at Hunters and really enjoyed it. The food was amazing 10/10. Everything was insanely flavorful and could tell how much thought goes into every dish. We got the kale salad, biscuits, Mac and cheese, chicken and dumplings, and HFC bowl. No notes, still dreaming about the Mac and cheese and biscuits. Fun vibe, love that you can see the chefs cook while you eat. Was able to reserve a table and service was fast. Super crowded bar on a Saturday night and very loud music/ambiance but fun people watching

The meal I had was so delicious that I couldn't give this place anything less than five stars. The brisket and hash for brunch was a 10/10 packed with flavor and a generous size. The everything bagel biscuits were really good I loved the honey butter. The inside of this place is cozy and was perfect for the holiday spirit. The service wasn't bad but not the best didn't feel friendly but the food came out quick and there were no issues. Would definitely come back.

We had family visiting 10/12-15/24( due to my first cousin (Coach Charles Smith) being induction into The NateSmith Class of 2024 Basketball Hall of Fame on 10/13) they//we are from Louisiana and one of them bet me 2/'s that I couldn't find Good Gumbo in Boston. Lol so on 10/14Thanks to Chef Lambo. I WON! This is a very Cozy Restaurant. We all shared some Apps Smoked Chicken Wings, Fried Pickles, both types of Cornbread and we All had the "Lambo Gumbo "...soooo delicious . This was my fourth visit and I'll be back for ( one night of ) my Birthday Week next month .

First off: the food was outstanding. The kind of meal where everyone at the table were all raving about their food. Everything came out hot, flavorful, and fast considering the size of our group. Second: the staff deserves a medal. Not only were they friendly and efficient, but they also went above and beyond splitting checks for all 11 people individually without making us feel like we'd committed a felony. Anyone who has ever dined with a large group knows this alone is a five-star act of heroism. The ambiance was fun, energetic, and just the right amount of spunky. It felt lively without being overwhelming, the kind of place where you immediately relax and accidentally stay longer than planned. And finally, the soundtrack. Whoever was running the music understood the assignment. Absolute bangers all night. At one point I genuinely wasn't sure whether I was there for dinner or about to break out into dance. Fantastic food, great vibes, awesome service, and a team that clearly knows how to handle groups without breaking a sweat. Would absolutely come back.

Amongst the many places we searched this was where we wanted to go first. We got here around 1 pm and there was a good amount of seating available. The New Orleans inspired theme and music made this place such a good vibe to eat at. We had the gumbo, fish and chips, and beignets to share. The gumbo was a first time for us and it was extremely tasty, the mix of soft and savory chicken with a spicy soft yet tender pork sausage mixed with rice was amazing. The fish and chips were great as well but having the beignets at the end was truly the best finish to this fine experience.

First, the good... my dinner partner had the shrimp and grits and enjoyed the meal. Okay, that was the good! For me, I ordered the French Quarter burger with onion rings. The burger was lacking flavor. It was supposed to be dusted with creole, which could not be detected. The onions on the burger were way over cooked and had zero flavor. The scallion aioli saved the burger to add some flavor. The onion rings were overly greasy and most of them were soggy. I will chalk my experience as a bad night for the French Quarter, but I weighed out my dinner mates meal, with a good drink, and a bad meal to give them three stars.

I got the mixed chicken plate with Mac n cheese and candied yams. The chicken was very good--fried very well with great seasoning, a crispy exterior, and juicy interior. The Mac was very gooey and cheesy. And the yams were excellent as well. I thought the texture of the yams was near perfect--not too hard but not too soft and mushy either. Also not overly sweet. I also felt like the price was very fair. A lot of times, similar entrees can cost near $30, but this was just over $20 which was super reasonable especially for the quality. The staff was very kind and friendly as well. Keep in mind that the interior is quite small, so plan ahead on whether you're going to eat inside or take it to go. But overall I'd recommend this to anyone in the area, and I'd love to go back!

Let's start with the "Jamaican" patties. These were not patties. They were empanada-style, lacking the flaky crust, seasoning, and depth you expect from a true Jamaican beef or chicken patty. At $5 each, that's not just disappointing--it feels misleading. Then the soul food. This is where it really fell apart. The chicken was dry, under-seasoned, and surprisingly small--more like an afterthought than a centerpiece. Soul food should be rich, flavorful, and comforting. This wasn't! The greens were another miss. No depth, no richness, and completely lacking the traditional pot liquor that gives them their signature flavor. It felt like a stripped-down version of what should be a staple dish. The only bright spot was the candied yams--they actually had flavor and were enjoyable. What's frustrating is the gap between reputation and experience. When a place has awards and hype, you expect authenticity, quality, and consistency. This didn't deliver on any of that. Overall, I wouldn't return. There are too many places doing this food the right way to spend money here again.
