Wow! I'd heard so much about the wine tasting in Hunter Valley and definitely wanted to do this when I was in Sydney. I'd booked my tour with viator a few weeks prior to visiting Sydney.
The tour guide was extremely organized and informative. I was picked up in my hotel lobby around 8:30ish AM on Monday, March 18th. The drive to Hunter Valley was about 2 hours and the scenery of the country side/wine region in Australia was just magical.
Our first stop was about 20 minutes at one of the rest stop outside of the city and I'd decided to grab some coffee and take advantage of the beautiful view.
Apparently, Hunter Valley is Australia's major wine region. The tour was about 11 hours long, which included visits to three wineries and lunch. This tour group I was in was fairly small and included mostly first time visitors to Australia.
Our first winery was Iron Gate Estate - one of Hunter Valley's finest owned and operated by a European family. We tried about six different wines - a combination of red and white wine and ended it with some home made brownies.
My favorite wine was the sweet Shiraz and French Rose. It was awesome to learn so much about the wine process and how much time and effort goes into ensuring the final product is perfect.
Our next stop was at Tempus Two - founded in 1997 by one of Australia's most iconic wine families - the McGuigans. I really admired and appreciated the sophistication, style, taste and packaging of their wine. It's was very high end!
My favorite was the Shiraz and Cabernet! The scenery here was speechless.
We break for a hour and had a delicious lunch at one of the restaurant/mall near by. Our lunch was preordered therefore the menu would varied. Kindly don't worry they cater for vegetarian as well as meat eaters.
Our final winery was at Savannah' Estate. It's more of a smaller winery and it's located in the most beautiful part of Hunter Valley. Great for taking pictures and walking around after wine tasting. My favorite wine was the Shiraz - you could taste the rich fruits. Our host was lovely and knowledgeable about the wine selection and process. read more
