I bought my first handgun there two days ago. I was very impressed with how friendly and helpful they were. I knew exactly the gun I wanted, but was nervous about the process involved in purchasing a gun. They were very helpful. They also accommodated my request to hold the gun for me, so I could pick my daughter up from school. When I came back, they helped me find a locking case, and ammo. Great shop and helpful staff. I've visited three or four times and every interaction has been smooth and hassle free. On the first visit, I bought some accessories and the prices seemed fair. The staff chatted with me, and found out that I was a new LTC holder. They made a recommendation that I invest in a good safe and helped me determine my needs. I didn't end up buying one there, and there was no hassle from the staff. I was not made to feel like I wasted their time. My most recent visit was excellent. Massachusetts tax-free weekend was approaching and I wanted to take time to "scope out" my new purchase. I looked at a Smith and Wesson Victory .22 target pistol with a red-dot installed. The price was very reasonable and fair. I came back on Saturday to make the most of the savings. Even though the store was mobbed, everyone was in great spirits. The staff was patient and professional. It took about 30 minutes to check out and do all the paperwork, but again, with such a great staff, there was no real issue. They have a great selection and very fair prices. Some of the used gear is a little pricey, but it seems that they're committed to making sure the condition of the used guns is top shelf. I went in to purchase ammo for my 9mm and was interested in purchasing reuger 22. They just happened to have a new one. The guy who helped me was very nice , it was an easy transition and he helped pick out the ammo for the new gun. I went in again and was overcharged for ammo purchased. Found out after getting home. Went back next day and he gave me the ammo I was purchasing for another gun for the amount he overcharged me ( this was more expensive ). a deal! I'll definitely go back again. read more

I've had two different experiences at HTP. First experience wasn't very good. The old head, who apparently is the owner, is not a very friendly guy to people who aren't regulars. A friend and I popped in to buy some ammo. He wanted 500 7.62 rounds, and 100 or so .357 sig rounds. The guy would only sell him like 50 7.62 rounds, and 25 .357 sig rounds. For no real reason either. He also kept eyeing me and my friend's girlfriend, and her and I don't look like the usual gun owner type people. Next time I went was the week I finally got my LTC. That time was completely different. The old head wasn't there this time. Everyone was very nice and informative on how to use the pistol I purchased. One guy, who I guess is the son of the owner, is a really cool guy. Nice dude, very helpful. No issues, friendly environment and whatnot. Their selection is pretty good. I walked in with a certain pistol in mind, and left with the compact version of it, which I liked better after seeing it. They did not skimp on the ammo the second time around. Left with 175 rounds! I'd go again. It's the closest gun store for me so it'll have to do. read more

I called over 25 local shops from NH,MA,RI looking for a specific Marlin 1895SBl. No one had one, even when they checked their distributers they were all out of stock and on back order. When I called HTP the gentlemen suggested that I find one on Gunbroker and I could have it transferred to them. He was the only one willing to help me. Good selection, fair, not great prices. Others have said it and now it makes sense that if you are not a regular, you feel uncomfortable. I looked around for a few minutes and finally asked for some .22 ammo. The older guy walks over to another counter, grabs what was essential a ziplock of 50 rounds with a $7.95 sticker on it. Doesn't say another word. .22 is hard to come by, so I I just bought it. The ammo looks like crap and some of the bullets are even chipped. Luckily, just 10 minutes down the street I was able to fine a box of 500 for $39. Since I am always on the lookout for a new weapon, I will be back, but I have definitely had better experiences at other shops. read more

I have had nothing but bad experiences here. This was my LGS for years, not anymore. Years ago I took my license course with old man hunter; him and his son seemed like decent fellows, but the rest of the staff are just despicable. There is a very "portly" "gentleman" that I seemed to always have the misfortune of running into. I had every intention of buying a rifle at this store one day, I had cash in hand and was going to make a purchase, but I had some basic questions. "What is the barrel length? How many magazines does this come with? What is your opinion on the action of this rifle versus that rifle?" The obese man threw his hands up and angrily declared "Why didn't you come in when THE RIFLE GUY is here!?" Umm excuse me? Like I'm supposed to know who that is and what his schedule is? He then stepped into the closet they kept all the handguns and closed the sliding door (this was their old location). I've seen that door open, that's a broom closet that he stepped into, he just went in there to not have to do his job. He quite literally left the counter empty for minutes and stood in a three foot deep closet, until I walked out. I tried to buy clays and it took me 15 minutes of standing there while two employees had an winding conversation that seemed to be about anything except ringing me up. The final of many straws that broke the camel's back was when I purchased night sights for a handgun. "Installation included with purchase." What a deal! I didn't mind that it somehow took a full week for them to install nights. What I did mind was that the front sight was crooked. Now when I say crooked, this was at least twisted so that the sight was running at a 45 degree angle in relation to the slide and pointing at two o'clock. The bearded old gunsmith told me "it doesn't matter, I boresighted it!" Uh, YEAH. IT MATTERS. The front sight post literally isn't in line with the slide. But it's alright, I thought. He's old and was clearly hurrying, please just fix it and make sure its straight. ANOTHER week goes by. I get it a second time. Still crooked pointing at one o'clock. I whipped out a ruler and held it up for him showing how badly crooked it was. He said he would fixed it, AND ASKED FOR MY RULER TO MAKE SURE IT WAS STRAIGHT. How do you run a gunshop and not have any kind of straight edge or measuring equipment on hand!? After the third time it was finally on correctly, and I never went back. I haven't spoken to a single person with any good things to say about this place, and frankly all the awful reviews on the northeastern shooter forums should have tipped me off. I live down the street and I regularly drive to a gun store a half hour away because of how terrible Hunter's Trash Post is. read more

Don't get me wrong the staff is very nice and actually pretty knowledgeable but they have a full shelf of what they say are high end AR15s. Now each rifle no matter what manufacturer or model is flat lined at 3100 dollars. Looked yesterday and saw a EAA AR15 which you can buy online typically for sub 500 dollar range yet its at Hunters for 3100. Now I understand that its a pre ban and this is MA but 2500 dollar just for pre ban when Four Seasons in Woburn is charging 1700 still outrageous but almost half the price for the same pre ban rifle seems scummy to me. Secondly about a month ago Phil who I believe is the owner now had 3 fixed magazine lowers in the pistol case and was asking 679 per lower. This shop has so much potential just wish they would stop with this ridiculous pricing schemes. Sell the guns for what they are worth and I get we are in MA so sure mark it up a bit to stay competitive but stop hurting the every day gun enthusiast read more

I would like to thank Hunters Trading Post (specifically Phil) for exceptional customer service. He spent several hours one afternoon with me even though I didn't buy anything . I Needed a bunch of information when I visited and he sat down and patiently walked me through a myriad of firearms options without any pressure whatsoever. The entire time I was there I felt valued not rushed. Uncommon for most gun shops I walk into who don't give you more than a tense 2 minutes if you're just looking. I spend time researching models before I purchase but I also look at patronizing an outfit that builds relationships and doesn't just run your debit card. I go into a lot of gun shops, and sometimes you feel like its walking into a party that you were not invited. Not today I walked in looked around a bit saw what I was looking for, they ask if I wanted to look at something, they were helpful and knowledgeable about the guns I was interested in. I was torn between two styles of Berretas, they let me look at them for quite a while, no pressure and all my questions were answered. I finally picked the one I wanted, price was lower then two other shops I was in, happy with my choice. I will buy more guns from this shop in the future. read more

Great selection of ammo, weapons, and accessories. .......but when asked for certain popular type of ammo, the gentleman who was dealing with seemed somewhat distant about dealing with me. Understand was not dressed in LLB, or John Deer attire, and was not one the local/locals coming in to talk about whatever the goings on at the Elks Lodge.....was just there to buy ammo. What Assholes, this used to be a good shop years but I guess that was years ago..Now it's just another money grabbing "business" I recently went there to buy a Smith & Wesson ladies handgun for my wife, I researched the prices everywhere. And like I said I've done business here before so figured I'd go back, shop local, that kind of thing, and it's $175.00 more than everyone else. So I said to the old man (Don) what's the story your way overpriced compared to everyone else, his answer "it's a business we're here to make money, not friends" take it or leave it, so I left it. Much better shops out there, there's M&M in Plymouth and Outback Arms in Plympton, and they won't try and gouge you!! read more

Popped in here this afternoon to pick up some ammo. Great selection of rifles and shotguns. The handgun selection was ok, not great. I thought the pricing was all over the place. They had some stuff that was extremely over priced and some stuff that was very underpriced. It really bothered me that they had "rudely" worded signs everywhere. For example "Don't cock the firearms unless you know how to uncock them without dry firing." (Gun shop ettiquette is that you don't dry fire). Or the sign admonishing you not to touch the expensive rifles without permission. Put them behind the counter if you're worried and lose the sign. Their ammo prices were higher than Four Seasons but not outrageously higher. Cheapest 9mm ammo they had were reloads for $15 (you get $2 back when you return the brass). Staff, like everything else in the store was all over the place. There was a man who appeared to be the owner or manager who was very nice and then there were two older gentlemen that had no personality. Others on other sites have complained of them being rude. I wouldn't go that far. They weren't the friendliest people in the world but they weren't downright mean either. Bottom line is that I'll buy ammo here in a pinch and may even buy a shotgun here, but otherwise I'll take the trip to Four Seasons. read more

I do not yet have my LTC but I have taken my firearms safety course and am in the process of getting my license. I also have limited experience with pistols. I have been going around the south shore looking for a good shop to go to once I am ready to make a purchase. I walked in and went right to the counter and told them about my experience level and asked for some advice on where to start. The owner (Don i believe?), knowing that I wouldn't be able to purchase anything while I was there spent the next 20 minutes walking me though everything he had to offer that id be interested in and giving me great advice. The shop was also relatively busy while I was there. I don't know what their prices are compared to others, but I know that great advice from an experienced shooter is worth its weight in gold. something to think about. I will be returning. read more

Recently completed an FFL transfer here from Colorado. Great service for cheap. Looked around the store a bit and found normal prices on a somewhat limited selection of firearms. I can't bash them for that, though - no dealer in MA can offer a tremendous inventory. Staff aren't incredibly helpful, so do your research beforehand if you don't have any idea what you're doing. read more
