If you don't live right next to the bank then you're SOL.. they have two locations right next to each other by mundelien and one more or so somewhere on the southside. If you have to go to the bank it's a long trip and a hassle. Also if you're living paycheck to paycheck expect to get screwed by this bank repeatedly. They'll allow your account t to go negative if a business is trying to take out cash but there's not enough funds. But then a day later they "return" (take back) that cash back so the payment that the allowed your account to go negative over is still due and now you have a bunch of fees from the bank. Even though they said all you'd have to do is pay back the negative amount. Another thing! **Probably most important** For some reason THIS BANK is never able to help you out with any disputes. You call them right away when you see the pending charge. They told me I have to wait until it's no longer pending and to call back then to start a dispute. I call then and they give you other reasons why they can't help you. And they do this kind of stuff all the time. Unfortunately I have my direct deposit and a bunch of other accounts linked to that account. As soon as I start another account at a better bank and move ever over there I'm canceling this account ASAP. Or I might leave it open with two cents in it and never use their services

I am on an accountant for a non-for profit that changed banks. The account for Midland was supposed…read moreto be closed but somehow wasn't (not their fault), so I went into the Belvidere branch and spoke with a nice lady who said she would make sure the account was closed and she would take care of the $3 overdraft fee. She even took the paperwork I had with me and reassured me it would be taken care of. I asked if I needed to pay the fee and she reassured me she would handle it. Now a week later I am getting notified that the account is still open and the overdraft fee has went up to $39. I tried calling their call center and they were no help. They kept asking for my personal information over and over again, which after being asked the third time I was just done. Would not recommend a bank that does not follow through and is no help with their call centers. I guess now on my time off I will need to again drive the 30 minutes to the bank to try and get this taken care of again.

I asked the woman where I would go to open a new account. She said have a seat, we will be with you in a few minutes. Five minutes later she passed by me, still helping another customer which I understand, but she said to me, it will be a few more minutes we are helping our clients. I know she saw my flyer and seemed disinterested in my business. I waited another 15 minutes, 20 minutes total. I decided that they should not waste their advertising dollars to get new business they really don't want. Took my deposit to Chase, I won't be banking at Harris.

I have recently closed my account there and removed a significant amount of money because of their…read moredebit card policy. They require you to call them EACH TIME you wish to spend more than $1,000 and you are not allowed to spend more than $1,500 a day. After significant conversation with their management we were still unable to arrive at an agreeable solution. They would NOT give us an increased limit, and said we would ALWAYS have to call them DURING BUSINESS HOURS to ensure the charge would not be declined. I am preparing for my wedding and experienced their abysmal policy because I had the embarrassment of having a charge declined associated with my wedding. Bear in mind that if you are shopping on a Saturday and wish to buy a refrigerator or a piece of furniture, you WILL BE DECLINED if you did not clear it with them first. We decided that we do NOT need THEIR permission to spend OUR money so we closed the account. Do not do business with this bank.

Nearly all of them tried to load up fees or play around with terms to pump up their own bottom line outside of agreed upon parameters. First Federal was the exception in that respect, as they adhered to the agreed upon terms through closing. First Federal was fast with review and turnaround time. They kept their promises in terms of timetable. They did not make any attempt to change terms or load up garbage fees as the process moved along. The loan officer was great. Fast, always polite, always helpful and kept on top of things. In short they handled everything as professionally as possible with no surprises. I would, and will, go back to them for a mortgage again. Rates/fees are very competitive and the process was smooth. I can't, at this point, think of anything else they could do to get your business. Update November 2014: I did a refinance on a rental property through First Federal. Again, no issues. My prior loan officer was gone, so I dealt with someone else. Results were basically the same. Rates were competitive, they kept to their terms with no surprises and got us to the closing table quickly on a timeline that worked for me. I'll be using them again. No question, no doubt.

He was told (and I was a witness) there was no fee as long as we had a transfer letter from the other bank. We got the letter to them and low and behold the manager calls my husband and says there is a $30.00 fee. I don't even think he made $30.00 on the IRA over the course of the last 10 years! Wow, way to do business First Federal, can't compete with rates so charge your customers to make up for it!
