Ms. Leslie helped me navigate the School System as well and get my son to be recognized as having a Specific Reading Disorder, to get additional support in the school. I continue to be amazed at how much my son loves going to see Ms. Leslie, even as he is complaining about not wanting to go to school every day (not sure if you can relate to that at all?? ;0) The vast knowledge that Ms. Leslie has in this area is truly a vision to behold... her systems are artistic in a way, finding new avenues to bring even more success out of my son. I am forever indebted to what she has given my son... it goes way beyond reading. it is about restoring his faith in himself, that he is not "Stupid" but just has a brain that is amazing and unique. We continue to work with Ms. Leslie and plan to for years to come, with our other sons.

We immediately began searching for a tutor, in the hope that we could help Matthew with his struggles. After reading about the methods applied at Student Learning Recovery, we decided to give them a try. Leslie of Student Learning Recovery worked with Matthew and was able to identify key areas where he was deficient, below grade level in certain areas. Leslie applied her methods of Visual Perception Therapy twice a week, and we began to see improvement over the course of several months. Last winter, I was recommended by my neighbor to use Mathnasium. She said that they gave her daughter the confidence to believe in herself and do better. Lessons are conducted on site. There is no assigned homework and so I have used this time for "me". It is much better monitoring his progress rather than fussing and getting upset when he doesn't get what I am trying to convey. After my son's first introduction day at Lead Mine Mathnasium, he loved it! He wanted to stay longer. Said he had fun! The math tutors showed me how Younger Daughter's challenges were very different than Older Daughter's challenges. These tutors have such patience! They kept working and working with her and never let on how frustrating it was to explain the same concept repeatedly. I knew that I couldn't do the same tutoring at home. They kept her interested in learning and never gave up on her. After a year of tutoring, my daughter finally, finally understood what they had been talking about and her math grades have been increasing ever since. Even before her grades improved, her frustration was reduced. The tutors are so encouraging and they have different ways of approaching the problem. The tutoring is also geared to her level so she doesn't feel left behind or the "stupid one" because all classwork has to stop because she needs yet another explanation. My daughter would jump out of the car and bounce into math tutoring. What better recommendation for a math tutoring than the happy face of my daughter? We tried it for our daughter with the most extreme ADHD symptoms and were so pleased, we put our other daughter (with less extreme symptoms) in as well. Our situation: two girls, daily calls and texts from teachers regarding behavior and not paying attention in school. I got an average of 2 calls per girl each day. I dreaded answering my phone and my stomach hurt when I saw the school name pop up on my phone. My husband is dead set against medication; me not so much. So the combination of diet, program and home exercises made sense for us. The cost is really high. Not going to lie about it. But it's worth every single dollar. I've watched first-hand as things started to change - small things like my daughter doing less donkey kicks while she watched her tablet, her starting to do things the 1st or 2nd time I told her, making eye contact when she speaks, and moving to having control over her actions. Finally, both my girls would tell me that they wanted to do better, be better but they couldn't reach those goals. Their brains didn't have the connections to give them that level of control. While I think at the end of the week he was proud of the work he'd done for the play, I would not recommend this camp for Kindergartners who cannot read. Every morning they have a set of self-directed "Challenges" that are designed to keep the kids busy. I found out on Wednesday that he was not able to complete the challenges because each child has to read the instructions to know what to do. None of the staff nor the older children helped him read the challenges. So at drop off each day I would help him read through each challenge. He was so much happier to be able to succeed with the challenges every day! I was late to work for the rest of the week. We were also told that he would have to work on memorizing his lines at home since there wasn't enough time at camp for the staff to help him read his lines. It's track out camp; the last thing I need is homework! When we signed up I was told that he would have plenty of opportunity to learn his lines at camp. The last thing that bothered me was that there was no outside time for the kiddos - my bad for not thinking about that when I signed up. I think that RTA is an OK camp but I really think that they should not advertise it as a good choice for Kindergartners. We would have been happier if we'd waited a year. Now we might not go back.

Upon meeting her she assessed my child and provided a start date that would work for everybody. Ms. Jenny advised me that if she didn't think he was ready she would not have taken my money but would have allowed him more time for development but to return; which confirmed her great character. I have reviewed the other comments to include the subjective/negative reviews. I must say everyone is entitled to feel/believe their own thoughts. The negative comments appear to be unfair, emotionally dysregulated and biased making the opinions more SUBJECTIVE than OBJECTIVE. Ms. Jenny is the only one in the center supervising who is attentive to children & teenagers of ALL different AGE brackets, as she has only a few young assistants who help her when they are available. Ms. Jenny is fair, firm and consistent who takes her job very 'seriously' while committing to ensuring the children are learning and grasping the information but holding them accountable; rightfully so, when necessary. I (as a Parent) have witnessed myself quite a few kids being lazy, having multiple attitudes, talking back to Ms. Jenny, displaying no desire in being there at the mercy of their parents choice (not Ms. Jenny forcing them to be there, to set the record straight). With Ms. Jenny's assistance to my child; upon, being assessed prior to admission of a private school, tested higher placing him in Advanced Kindergarten. Though he is currently in Kindergarten he is doing 1st grade and some 2nd grade work. There is another family I personally know who has two sons who are both excelling in 2 grade levels above their current grade but that Mother, like myself stays on her children also. Another 5/6 year old little girl is 2-3 grade levels above her current grade as well. The parents and children complaining unfairly about Ms. Jenny expect to pay an amount and think she is to perform a miracle over night to a child who has a parent who is not taking an equal vested interest themselves, checking on their child and not holding their own child accountable. Ms. Jenny is not there to pacify, babysit, provide hugs and kisses, pats on the heads and bandaids for emotional issues. However, Ms. Jenny does award, reward & acknowledge the ones who have improved, diligently committed and stayed the course. When it comes to the possible success of a child it would appear as such: The possible responsibilities are as follows in percentage breakdowns: Parent 35%, Child 25%, School/Educators 15%, Environment 12.5%, Ms. Jenny 6.25% & miscellaneous still governed by Parent 6.25%. Meaning everything plays a role in a Childs development but the higher percentage falls on the 'Parent' therefore blaming Ms. Jenny who plays a small role is unacceptable, misplacing liability with the parent & child projecting their irresponsibilities on their own shortcomings. Ms. Jenny being of Asiatic decent, her English dialect is a mixture of her native tongue. I; as a Parent, have a major role in my Childs education and hold myself and him responsible so he seems to be doing quite well for what it's worth. If you're not sure of your Child's mental status I recommend getting them professionally ‍assessed prior to being in denial and thinking Ms. Jenny Z should fix/heal an issue you may be nonplussed about. Let her know what your child is dealing with, so she may provide a reasonable service. Don't believe everything you read! Ms. Jenny is not for the faint at heart or thin skinned individuals who are easily offended. As in life and with everyone around us either you will get with the program and elevate or fall off the wagon by the wayside, setting your children up for failure ‍ to a world that is not so kind!!!!
