I've been going to the hup lee for ages and absolutely LOVE IT my favourite food is the chicken maryland I HIGHLY recommend it. I have had to stop cause i also found out the at I have celiac. Work sent me to Motherwell for 3 days and if you have ever been to Motherwell than you have probably been to this place, since it's by far the best food option the town has to offer. Even as the best in town I found the food to be very oily and lacking in colour, brown being the majority of the food on offer. Overall it was a good meal, but if you're use to London restaurants this might be slightly disappointing. On the plus side the interior space is great for groups, they have a chocolate fountain, amazing tea options and karaoke (what's a Chinese restaurant without a karaoke section, right!) read more

When the Hup Lee Chinese buffet came to Motherwell, it was as if a film star had arrived. Everyone was talking about it, kiddies and grannies alike. Motherwell is not a brilliant place for cuisine; the best you can hope for is a Gregg's pie and a pint, so this huge restuarant is the first big eaterie to come to town. Of course as a patron of Motherwell and great lover of a nice curry, i went along on the second night to give it a go, and have returned a number of times since. It is actually a very nice place inside, very clean with plenty of tables and booths. The restuarant houses two karioke rooms to hire for special occasions, shut off from the rest of the restuarant. The decor is nothing different from the norm, with chinese symbols and memoribilia mainly in red and black. The buffet is pretty big, with a selection of salad and cold starters aswell as soups and bread to get you going. There are also the usual hot starters like prawn toast and crackers. The cream of chicken soup is gorgeous and i could go just to eat that alone. The mains are extensive, along with noodles, fried and boild rice and chips. From chilli chicken, which is a dry battered chicken with a spicy kick to it (my personal fave) through to a good old British steak, there really is something for everyone to try. The staff are always filling the hotplates up when they get empty, so they will never run out of your favourite dish. They also cater to vegetarian and halal customers, with dishes from different parts of Asia for you to try. Desert is mainly gateux's and fruits with cream. They also hav jelly and ice-cream, and a chocolate fountain (which only operates in the evening), with a selection of marshmallows, strawberries and shortbread fingers to dip in...yummmm. They also do cocktails which are around £5 each, and bottles of house wine for around a reasonable £12 each. Soft drinks such as Irn Bru and Coke come in at the usual over-priced £3 each, which bumps your bill up considerably. The staff are helpful, taking away your plates as soon as you put down your fork- sometimes a bit too quickly! They don't mind how many times you return to the buffet as long as you don't waste too much food, so beware of this if you are taking a child or picky eater; you will be charged for excessive waste! The lunch menu comes in at under £8 per head for adults and the evening menu is about £12. Pretty cheap considering you can eat till you bust! I would recommend booking if you are coming here at the weekend as it is always mobbed! The novelty for the Motherwellians clearly has not worn off yet. Great for a quick but filling lunch, and brilliant for a special occasion. read more

'Twas mother and father's anniversary the other night, and my mum had been talking about trying here for ages, so it was here that I took them! Despite the scorching heat that day, and having to hear Happy Birthday sung three times in the space of half an hour, the Hup Lee was an enjoyable meal out! As per any Chinese buffet, you go up and eat as much as your stomach can hold, and you pay! Unlike most chinese buffets I've been to, Hup Lee actually has a great selection of Chinese food, and is really quite tasty! Because it is a buffet, the food isn't necessarily going to be the best, and it wasn't, but that didn't stop me eating 3 full plates of food. Yum. The Hup Lee isn't cheap in comparison to other buffet restaurants, but I would definitely say that you're paying for the quality. As well as being able to eat as much as you can, there's also 2 karaoke rooms available here, where, on top of eating multitudes of food, you can then get up and belt a bit of Whitney Houston to wash your food down. Hup Lee was a revelation when it came to Motherwell, as a buffet experience ran by Mr Lee himself. I do very much like the fact myself, and so must everyone else because it is jam packed busy all the time!! And actually really pricey for a buffet, I think it came in as about £14 per person for the buffet and really you could go get a filling course or two in most places for that, even in Glasgow if you wanted to really go wild. I think the success of Hup Lee may be due to lack of options around here, but still it does very well. I can't deny, they' re are many many options but these oil swimming dishes could be bettered easily. As always I will mention deserts, to which was still frozen in the midle- bad sign. Although that didn't stop me eating it. So outside all of these problems, the real issue I have with Chinese buffets, especially when thay are rather expensive like this one, is that to feel value, you will continue to stuff yourself fuller and fuller until satisfaction just turns to illness, all in the name of getting one over on the restaurant by paying for less than you actually eat. This place has been mobbed from the minute it opened a year or so ago in Motherwell. It used to be an Untouchables store, now proudly home to a Chinese Buffet that should have been an Indian Buffet, but those folks located a business up the road a piece and are doing well too. It's not cheap, but if you make the most of it, you can get your moneys worth alright. I, do not. But I am not a fan of Chinese food really. I have been a few times just for a drink and a chat with folk but always get fierce stares from the staff who I can only assume think I will steal some food from a paying customer pal of mine and dodge the cost. I am sure this happens. It's also wise to make many small trips rather than a few big ones as the staff also give you an awkward glance if you return a plate that is on the wrong side of empty. I just got back from my work's night out at the Hup Lee and I must say it was fantastic! Just imagine your favorite Chinese take away, only in buffet form! That's how great the selection is - I seriously had to walk round three times at first fully take in all that was on offer. Of course I went back for more helpings! There was the usual Chinese cuisine with various dipping sauces but there was also a good variety of European dishes such as steak and omelette, and Japanese noodles too. Customers also are able to tuck into huge helpings of fresh bread and chips, lovey. Dessert wise there are two types of gateaux, various flavours of ice cream, a chocolate fountain (I certainly did not see anyone dipping their fingers into it, and there is always an abundance of staff hovering around keeping an eye on things anyway) with fruit and marshmallows and adorable little sweet Chinese dumplings which I unfortunately didn;t have room to try. The staff are polite and attentive as they should be - just don't lay your fork down on your plate if taking a break to chat while still eating, as I did find that staff are perhaps a bit TOO eager to clear the unused dishes away from your table. Of course, this enables you to get back up to the buffet line and grab another warm plate to start piling up :) The ambiance is great, groups or couples have enough room and privacy to feel at peace while eating, and yet still have the uplifting social buzz of the place surround them. Oriental music and lighting set the place off - it's just ideal, I won't go back to a restaurant if the atmosphere isn't perfect. To top it off the prices are unbelievably cheap considering the value - so you'll go home happy as Larry and your wallet won;t be complaining either! The only disappointment of the night is that I wish my stomach would let me eat more of that wonderful food! Definitely going back to the Hup Lee. This is really nice as far as buffet places go. It is not long opened, very spacious and plenty of fresh food on offer. The variety is fantastic and the staff are always replenishing the food. It is very clean and has a very modern feel to it. There is car parking round the back but i am unsure as to how suitable it would be for disabled customers. It would maybe be a bit cramped but it is all ground floor so might be okay. They have karaoke available for those people who want it, this gets a bit loud if you are not taking part in it however. A tip for anyone visiting, they have fantastic chicken soup, like the stuff you used to get years ago. Downsides, the drinks are a bit pricey, but this is probably where they make their money, the food is ver reasonably priced, so they are entitled to make a living somewhere. Worth a visit. read more

This is just the best buffet I have ever been to!!! I moved to Los Angeles 20 odd year ago and was recently back home for a couple of weeks and a friend suggested a Chinese buffet. I wasn't really too enthusiastic but wanted a curry before I left the homeland . So away we went and I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I walked in. Top notch all round from the interior to the food. This might sound stupid but this place would not be out of place in Beverly Hills just as is. Very good restaurant. The food is delicious. I have just came back from a night out at my work and the food was exquisite. The chow mien is phenomenal as well as the mozzarella sticks, which are a person favourite. The ice cream is very good too and I find the puddings very majestic. Nice enough buffet restaurant, good selection and food was replaced quickly. This place is quite big but gets really busy, I have only been twice and both times at a weekend so I am I sore how it is during the week. The airy non stuffy decor makes for good buffet dinning and you can linger around and take your time. The selection of starters are tasty as is the mains and deserts. I had chicken curry for main which was nice but obviously not as good as getting a proper sit down meal or from your favorite Chinese. They also have a chocolate fountain which I know adults love as much as the kids. I noticed people getting cocktails which is a nice tough as the drinks menu looked extensive also. I have given three stars as I couldn't complain much about a buffet but it doesn't warrant anymore. Worth a try and would go back if I was in need of a local Chinese buffet again. read more

As said by another reviewer, this place is busy because there isn't much to chose from around this area. The staff are rude to the degree of being farcical. A note on the menu states that if you take more on your plate than you can eat, you will be charged extra. really big buffet restaurant which seems to get busier as time goes on . eat as much as you like for £7.90 at lunchtime and £12.90 in the evening.lots of variety and you wont be stuck for something to eat . soups, salads,prawns, sliced meat , ribs, and the likes for starters, then you have curry, satay, sweet and sour , pork , chicken maryland, lemon chicken, black bean and lots of other things for your main meal. the desserts are a bit limited , like 2 varietys of gateau, fruit salad, ice cream and banana fritters, although they have added toffee banana balls which are reallynice . the drink menu is expensive , with a glass of water costing a whopping £1.70, a can of coke is £2 , going by prices you need to be worried about going over the drink limit as you would nedd a bank loan to get drunk in here, also have 2 karaoke rooms and have party nights at weekends and xmas read more

Well I had booked my daughters First Communion in January for yesterday, they called me on Friday just to check the booking, we thought at least they are on the ball. (boy was I so wrong) When we arrived we found out that they had put another party in our room (because there was more of them) so 19 of us in a small room with cake and balloons on tables, you can only imagine what it looked like. I tried to speak to them but they would not listen, all they said you did not pay deposit they could change, nobody asked for deposit in January, I also found out that they had lost their drink's license sometime in March for serving alcohol to under agers, they advised me when i asked for drinks that my guests should go to shop across road and buy carry out, I could not believe that my guests should have to bring carry outs with them, they could have informed me of this Friday night during the call, but now know reason for call was to see who had largest party Need less to say we all got up with balloons, cake etc and walked out. Would never advise anyone to go here you are only a form of money to them. On further checks in the area I have also found out this buffet has been closed by border agency for employing illegal workers and twice by food standards and the owner Hup Lee owned shop in Cambusnethan also closed.
