Upon arriving our reserved table, it was in a room where we couldn't hear each other speak because it was soo loud. The water girl stated "your server will be with you shortly, she just had a lot of other tables seated". I said "Excuse me" and the water girl said "your sever will be with you shortly". It took an hour for us to receive our meal. However our server had dropped a plate for the table next to us, where cocktail sauce got on my husband's calf's, shorts and stained my dress". There was shattered glass underneath our feet, no one apologized. When we received our food my tiny wedge salad was wilted. When I showed the waitress, she said "that's because of the kids working in the kitchen". When my husband bit into his lamb chop, it was tough and cold. On our last night in Kennebunkport, we stopped by Hurricane for dinner and were seated around 8pm and requested outdoor seating. The outdoor seating area is behind the restaurant underneath a huge tent with view of the water. The tables were very well spaced out, and it was a pleasant dining experience. (5 stars for outdoor dining set-up). I had the Hurricane Garlic Shrimp dish, which was good but the fettuccine was way overcooked (very limp), and the roasted head of garlic was good but very strong. That dish is a bit overpriced for what it is, but then again, we're in Kennebunkport! My partner had the catch of the day, which he said was OK; he had liked mine better. Service was good. First timing dining here. We had a reservation for 7:30 and were seated immediately. The food was very good. We started with a Greek salad and the Clams casino. I had the filet and lobster with asparagus. Filet was cooked perfectly, real nice Demi-glace too. Wife had the chicken and risotto. My sons had cheese pizzas...no formal kids menu, but they do cater to kids. Service was not great...reason for 4 stars. Our waiter did not seem to be interested in working or tending to his guests. The vegetable that came with my friends dish was asparagus and she has a severe aversion to it so I asked our server if there might be an alternative... this guy literally looked me dead in the eyes and said "no, this isn't Applebees" wth? This was last Friday- but it has bothered me since. My husband and I were just talking about it and after remembering our last few times dining experiences at The Hurricane, we realized that our service has been pretty consistently poor. For apps, had oysters Rockefeller and curried cauliflower 2 of us had the 2 lbs bake stuffed lobster, filled with crabmeat stuffing and topped with 3 scollops. Another one of us had the Jumbo shrimp in garlic outstanding and then on had the pork chop.. We overlooked the water where there was a lot of kayaking and paddle boarding. Sad to say that this was one of the worst meals I've had in my life. After a picturesque day trip in Maine with my family, we were looking forward to capping it off with a meal here. Unfortunately, it was not to be. To begin with, service was lackluster to say the least. We had to flag the wait staff down to be even provided with silverware, and it took 1.5 hours for our mains to arrive- this was after an hour wait to even get seated. Off to a rocky start. Then the food finally arrived, and it was an absolute disaster: -My mom's lobster was overcooked and rubbery. -Our potatoes were undercooked to the point of being inedible. -My sister's pasta was weirdly clumped together in coils and gummy. I've never seen noodles like that in my life. We raised these issues to the wait staff, and they agreed with our assessments and apologized profusely. As consolation, the owner took 50% off our bill and offered free dessert (which we declined given how long the disastrous meal had already dragged on by that point). I'm really confused by the other great reviews- either we had a terribly anomalous experience, or this place has seriously slid downhill recently. We had the opportunity to eat lunch at this sophisticated and quaint restaurant in Kennebunkport. We started with sourdough bread and EVO with dipping spices. The warm bread was surprisingly unique as if it was straight out of the bakery with nutty green olive oil that tasted like a top shelf selection from a small lot boutique olive grove in Napa, but we happened to be dining on the beautiful Maine coast. This was by far the best meal of our entire trip. There is plentiful capacity so we did not have to wait even on a busy Friday night. Service was over and above but the real star was the food. Our family variously enjoyed a large Caesar salad, lobster salad, beef carpaccio, a seafood tower, NY steak, fries, and two amazing desserts. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. I chose the spinach and arugula salad with fried green tomatoes and mozzarella. In Maine we wanted to have lobster and this was one of the few places open on Monday. ( That was strange to me). We both ordered a 2 lb lobster with Pei mussels. The meal was adequate but was considerably more expensive than competitors serving a similar or larger meal in the area. This meal was $60 dollars plus about $18 to park. They're only open for dinner at 430 during the week right now so our time slot was for 7pm with 6 people to celebrate a birthday for my sister. Right now they have "public supper menu" with 3 choices all under 15$. Great deal! I made sure to get it all. I tried a twisted banana martini, an app, an entree and a dessert. All terrific. Especially the peanut butter cup bread pudding on special for the night. To die for, with a whiskey cream sauce drizzled all over! The Maine event in Kennebunkport was the Hurricane dining experience. This ended up being one of my most favorite dining experiences in 2016. They served me an outstanding authentic Maine lobster roll in addition to the best blueberry pie that I ever had. In the zenith of the Boston vacation, we went on the Gray Line New England Seacoast tour. It brought us all the way to Kennebunkport, Maine. My dad is no stranger to this charming sea coast town. He was raving about the delicious lobster rolls that he had up in Maine, and was encouraging my brother and I to try a Maine lobster roll. The tour bus let us off at Dock Square, the Main Street of Kennebunkport. A short stroll down Dock Square beside the Kennebunkport River stood a building that looked like a two story New England colonial house. This was Hurricane Restaurant. In the peak of the summer tourist season there were a few available seats on both floors. We ended up with a seat overlooking the Kennebunkport River. Hurricane is the antithesis of a storm. It is a laid back restaurant overlooking the tranquil river. On an overcast afternoon the mist dropping lightly on the Kennebunkport River created a relaxing dining experience. The relaxing affect of a beer complimented the tranquil river scene. The Hurricane dining experience was really about what was in front of me: a superior Maine lobster roll then the best blueberry pie that I ever had. First, house bread with butter started off the dining experience. Then came the Maine lobster roll with French fries. Savouring an authentic Maine lobster roll was an experience I did not want to end. To extend the moments of savouring a lobster roll that was quality over quantity I tried to eat slow. Once the Maine lobster roll was gone, I would take my sweet time savouring the blueberry pie between cups of delectable coffee. In conclusion I highly recommend Hurricane for their Maine lobster roll, their blueberry pie, and charming views of the Kennebunkport River. Approaching the middle of the last month in the year, it is safe to write that Hurricane is one of my greatest dining experience in 2016. read more

My husband and I ate here twice on our visit to Kennebunkport, the first time with the group of professional colleagues we were traveling with and the second time, alone, at the bar. The first night we started with the wedge salad and pan-seared crab cakes - both were very good. For dinner we both had the catch of the day, halibut. The halibut was nicely cooked, but I loved the accompanying succotash made with fresh Maine corn. I made sure to get every drop! The closest parking spot was about 1/4 mile away on a side street, however it was nice out so I enjoyed the walk. The menu is large and varied, but they do not offer gluten-free bread as an option for sandwiches which is too bad. I ordered the Buddha Bowl with Haddock and it was delicious! Very savory and fun to eat because of the many different flavors and textures. My friend ordered the fish tacos and she loved them. Portions are generous. We arrived at 11:25 and there was a line waiting. It filled up very quickly. There isn't much privacy--the people sitting next to us joined in on our conversation!
