If you were a hardcore overachiever in nursing school, you really don't need Hurst Review to pass the NCLEX and should just do practice questions. But if you feel a little behind in your core nursing knowledge, the Hurst videos provide a fun way to master the material. I did the online review because it was cheaper and I didn't think that I would retain everything sitting in a long 3 day review. Watch out for coupon codes on their website and Facebook. I like that I could take my time and watch a lecture when I was ready to fully concentrate. The videos kept my interest and really drilled concepts into my head by explaining procedures and diseases in simple terms that were easy to remember. I wish the Hurst instructors were my nursing school instructors! There are 4 practice tests (125 questions long) and a question bank to practice. The rationales were not as great as Uworld but much better than Kaplan's. Besides the core content, there are two videos that talk about how to think the NCLEX way and testing strategies. Passed in 75 questions. Was it because of Hurst? I don't know but I do know that Hurst made me more confident in my nursing knowledge and I'm keeping my book of Hurst lecture notes on hand for when I actually start working my first nursing job. read more

Fearing the day I would take on the NCLEX-RN exam, I signed up for the Hurst Review Service. We had a Southern Belle instructor come to frigid Chicago from warm Miss-iss-ippi for three 8-hour day lectures. The Hurst service is unique with an interactive course where you hear the material from the teacher, write into your manual, then repeat out loud to a fellow student what you learned. It is great because it works for those with different methods of learning and memorizing. I absolutely loved the owner Marleen Hurst who provides a few lectures via video. She should do all the reviews because she has a great sense of humor and reminds me of a fabulous drag queen at times. You then have access to their online materials with videos of the 3 day lectures and a year of extra documents and resource documents. All the instructors are identical and seem like brain-washed copies of one another. For instance, if you ask a question online, the response matches the student manual identically, and doesn't help much. While priced kind of high at $350 a student (with a money back guarantee if you don't pass the NCLEX the first time around), it does give you a great all-around knowledge of medical-surgical nursing principles, procedures and practices. This is not like Kaplan that focuses only on testing strategies and their ridiculous Decision Tree that doesn't help answer more than 10 of the 75 NCLEX questions. After just finishing the NCLEX, I have to honestly say that no review service will truly prepare you for the board exam. Just believing yourself and not getting overly nervous is key. The best way "prepare" is to continually practice hundreds of tedious 'select all that apply' and priority patient (i.e. "Which patient would you see first?") questions. read more

The hurst NCLEX review service is mostly about taking your money. Even though they offer the money back "guarantee" if you do not pass initially that is not true. Attempting to get your money back is like pulling teeth, so don't expect to see anything, instead they just try to sell you more of their product. The service focuses on content, which if that is what you need; great. But if you need more practice with prioritization and critical thinking(which is what the NCLEX is all about) I would not recommend. I purchased the online review and recommend it for anyone who doesn't want to sit in a live review course and can't stand just reading a book. It's also cheaper than many other reviews. They have very organized lectures with fill-in print-out notes. The words you have to fill-in are kinda off; it's just to help you pay attention, not to emphasize certain words. Most lecturers are excellent, quick, and interesting. Some pretty much just read off the note sheets, but were still very good. Hurst covers a little pharmacology in the lectures, but most pharm you have to read on your own in their extra resource documents. These were informative, but I wish they would also lecture and offer ways to help memorize. Additionally, they offer great sections on critical thinking questions and strategy questions, which were all very helpful for me when I actually took the NCLEX. They offer excellent practice tests that require critical thinking, but unfortunately my last 2 tests repeated about 30 questions altogether. They were very kind in their email response to my complaint about this and gave me an extra test. Unfortunately again, the test continued to repeat questions and Hurst never responded to my second complaint about that as I highlighted the fact that they were not holding up to their advertisement. In addition to this Hurst review, I did about 4000 questions in the Saunders NCLEX review book (which covered way more material than Hurst) and reviewed other resources for pharm. I took the NCLEX after about 1.5 months of studying and passed in 75 questions!! read more

I honestly would not have purchased the Hurst Review if my friend had not recommended and encouraged me to do so. She had utilized the review after she finished PN school and passed her boards on the first try. Now we completed nursing school together and she told me how beneficial the review had been before so I decided to purchase the online review as well as the Elevate courses. I went through all of the core content and learned new ways to think about questions and remember very key components of different subject areas. I later completed the Elevate courses which really helped me to think more critically and dig deeper to understand the rationales and reasoning for each question. I received my ATT nearly two months after graduation and immediately scheduled my NCLEX-RN exam. I made sure to review any areas I was weaker in and continued to take quizzes and finished my last Q-review exam. I went into my exam feeling pretty confident. I had more than I expected of select all that apply questions, but that did not make me so anxious because I had been exposed to so many during the course of my review. I left knowing that Aunt Marlene and Tara would not let me down. I was so happy to learn that had passed my exam and I was officially licensed as a Registered Nurse. I honestly do not think I could have passed my exam on my own. Best Review!! Took the Hurst Review June 13-15, 2016. Took my test on July 18, 2016 and passed. The review focuses on CONTENT, which is what you need to pass the NCLEX; test taking strategies only go so far. I passed with 75 questions and my entire exam was SATA. I did the live review and took a month to go over the content and ensure I thoroughly understood the info. The last week I did the QReview questions combined with UWorld all week. Although they provide you the content in a clear and simple matter you still have to put the work in and go over it, to the point that if someone were to ask you what is SIADH, you can tell them from the top of your head and what you as the nurse should do! Aunt Marlene did a wonderful job with this program and everything you learned in nursing school will be solidified and well understood through this review program. Highly recommend. read more

hi everyone! if you're reading this you're probably wondering if the hurst NCELX RN review is worth it. Well in my opinion it 100% is, I would not of passed my NCLEX without this review. I graduated nursing school in October 2019, and took my NCLEX on January 24th 2020 and PASSED with 75 questions. I knew i was struggling in core content and needed at least 2 months to study for my exam. I loved the hurst because they sum up 2 years of nursing school in 265 pages and really drills in your head of what's important and what NCLEX is basically going to test you on. If you use this review to the fullest i guarantee you will pass on your first try. I was someone who struggled in nursing school and yall i had the worst anxiety about the NCLEX but this review gives you confidence to pass. They also provide you with 4 exams that resemble NCELX questions and they say that if you score at least a 77/125 you are ready for the NCLEX. My scores were 67/125.. 68/125..78/125... 77/125, in my opinion i think if you score in the 60's you should be good for the NCLEX. Along with hurst I purchased UWORLD, in my honest honest opinion UWORLD is nothing like NCLEX, UWORLD's questions are a lot more in depth and long and require a lot more critical thinking than actual NCLEX does, even the hurst questions were slightly harder. i switched between hurst and UWORLD questions daily so that I could practice different styles of questions. Yes, hurst and UWORLD are both pricy but its honestly worth it...hurst doesn't just say they have a 98.6% pass rate for no reason guys! the majority of the students in my gradating class used hurst and we all passed ! so to conclude by the hurst on its own or with UWORLD and you will pass the NCLEX on your first try :) read more
