Hired Shawn Houston after receiving a moving violation. After sending him a copy of the violation I was asked to send a detailed account of what happened and images if possible. I wrote down what happened and even provided several annotated images. None of this was ever looked at by Shawn. Eight months later I get a call before the trial asking for the details of the case. He said he'd give me a call if the officer showed up, and if so I would need to be at the court house with in 30 mins. The next day Shawn called stating that the officer showed up and that he could talk to the judge about getting the fine for the violation lowered. I stated that I would like to fight the ticket. He replied, "Well it's basically your word against the officer's". It was clear from that moment he had no intention of fighting it. This seems like the normal M.O. for attorneys fighting traffic tickets, hoping that the cop doesn't show up. He stated that he could get the fine down to $70-100 which persuaded me to pass on fighting the ticket, assuming that if I lost the case that offer to lower the fine wouldn't be there. He told me it would be pointless to fight the ticket as the judge always sides with the officer when it comes to this type of moving violation (this wasn't a speeding ticket). I got a call back 15 minutes later saying it was going to be $200! The reason for the low review is due to his poor communication. He couldn't answer basic questions. I asked him what the original fine was... he didn't know... I asked if the $200 included traffic school... he didn't know... He was a friendly guy, but didn't seem organized and made me wonder if I was better off just wasting a few extra hours by going to court on my own. read more
