I've been to the UP every year since birth. My parents, Yoopers from Calumet, packed us in the Ford wagon every summer to visit family....sometimes against our will, but something was planted in us. The need to escape the city and breathe fresh air, bike, snowmobile, ATV in beautiful surroundings with the friendliest people in the Midwest. My two brothers and I made a trip up north this past weekend and of course, included a stop at The Hut Inn. The Hut Inn satisfies everyones taste buds...salads, sandwiches, soups, burgers, pasta all in HUGE portions! Dine in a mid-century modern / Brady Bunch Tri-level / supper club type atmosphere that hasn't changed in decades. Cedar shake ceilings?!?!? Mine rock pillars?!?! Very cool. Every trip to the Copper Country includes a mandatory stop at The Hut Inn in Kearsarge, MI. Just don't make fun of their accent. It's not Canada, eh. :-) read more

One of my favorite places to dine in the Keweenaw. The food and service never disappoints. The menu is amazing and offered something for everyone, their salads are top notch and leave you quite filled. The pasta dishes are hot and flavorful, simply amazing. We were on vacation this October in the UP, and decided to try the Hut-an old favorite-for dinner. There had been a recent spike in COVID cases in the area--connected to the return of students to campus- that had our local friends concerned--but the Hut is a big place and even though we are in several risk categories, we decided to go for it. The place was bustling-but tables were reasonably distant and seemed to contain-mostly--an older, careful crowd. We waited, masked, to be seated with another, older, couple, who were also masked and decorously distanced. So far so good. But then a large group (7 or 8) college kids came in--all unmasked and talking and laughing loudly. They crowded into the waiting area without any regard for us or the other couple. A few roamed through the restaurant--calling out to friends in the waitstaff. There were signs on the doors about mask requirements--but none of the staff at the register or on the floor intervened. We left immediately. I'm of the opinion that young people can-among themselves-be less careful because they are at less risk. However, there were many older-and some very elderly-customers dining. I'm definitely not going to go again until the pandemic is over--and possibly not then. read more

We got two Burgers, Fries and a Chocolate Malt delivered to our hotel room during our latest Upper Michigan adventure! Both Burgers were huge and had a ton of toppings. One was a Mushroom Swiss Burger and the Other was a Jalapeno Burger with Sauteed Jalapenos and Cheddar Cheese. The order of Fries was big enough to fill a styrofoam Dinner container. They were good, but next time we'll probably opt for the Onion Rings. The Malt was Fantastic! Chocolatey, Rich and Malty! Wow is all I can say...about 8 bucks for a hamburger, nothing but water included, about $3 bucks for an order of fries, and $2.50 for a coke. Total $16 bucks for lunch (including tip) is a stiff price even in the cities. Nothing special about the food. To start with, we had a dimly light, worn out both that was not exactly comfortable for either my husband or myself. Our waitress was sweet -the only good point in the review. The roof was leaking in the middle of the dining room, and the hostess acted like it was no big deal. No big deal? Nasty water running down, but eh, no big. There are not very many choices when you're in the Keweenaw and every one deserves a chance. This may be what some are looking for in a restaurant and meal, but we weren't impressed. The building is cool, built from mining history and assembled lovingly although it's seen better days. I always love images showing the history of the place I am but, some of them are crooked or fallen off the wall. The service was pleasant and prompt with reasonable prices, though the food was only ok. My son did enjoy his burger and custard. My salad was ice burg lettuce with miracle whip in the honey mustard and fish and chips just a small step above Gorton's. My wife didn't feel like finishing or taking half her sandwich. Even though it wasn't our favorite, the staff were quite polite. read more

We had a very good experience at the Hut. They seemed a bit understaffed but the young lady that waited on us was terrific. My husband and I had the whitefish which was very good. Went in with a large group on Saturday, 09/02 for my father in law's birthday. We called ahead for a reservation and they were all set up and ready for us. I really wish that I could remember our waitress's name because she was fantastic. She handled taking our beverage and food order very quickly and efficiently. The food was fantastic! I had the roast beef dinner which came with soup or salad. I chose the Chicken Pot Pie soup on the waitress's recommendation and it was amazing. I ordered the small dinner and I got a huge portion of lean tender roast beef, mashed potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables that were perfect. I had enough left for lunch the next day. I believe my meal was $10.95, a good value. Great experience, will definitely return on our next visit to Michigan. read more

One of those weekends where we got takeout from the Hut on Friday and ended up stopping there again for lunch on Sunday. Food was great both times, good service, and I love the homemade ranch dressing. A nice place to stop, the quality of the food and portions match that of one of their other restaurants , the waterfront @ Ramada in Hancock, which we also like. All in all it's a place we go to often, and they do a very nice job catering to families! read more

Stopped here while staying in Lake Linden and was recommended to us by people in the area. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was unique but fun. The inside was little different, but had a nice country/outdoorsy feel. The staff was great and we were well attended to. We had salads, which were standard with lettuce, onion, tomato, and cheese. Ranch (homemade) came on the side and made the salad for sure. My entree was the trout/whitefish dinner with wild rice. The fish was locally caught, so definitely a plus. It was cooked just right with good seasoning and came with lemon and tartar sauce. Best fish I've had in a while. Wild rice was a little bland, but that could be because I haven't had it in a while. for dessert I ordered the mud pie which was also delicious. Overall a great roadside place and would recommend for a slightly unique and locally sourced place to eat. read more
